I bought this one and removed the back cover. TIPS: Unscrew the 4 symmetrical screws. IMPORTANT: Take note of the metal rings. There are total 8: 4 on the back of the metal plate, and another 4 at the bottom of the screw hole which you can't see. Avoid tilting the lens so they don't move out of position after unscrewing the screws. I didn't know they were there and they fell down into the lens and took some effort to get out again. Then pop out the plastic by releasing the small black plastic hatches on the backside. My challenge: If putting an ND on this lens, that shows in frame, even with a single 55-to-82 step ring and then with the slimmest possible NISI ND. Did you solve that? Otherwise guess have to crank the shutter on this one and hope no led lights in sight :-) Thanks!

Thanks for your detailed walkthrough! and I'm happy you managed to do it safely. I don't shoot a lot outside so I don't have ND filters to test. But I know that ND filters are problematic with 16mm full frame lens and you see the black corners around no matter what you do. So being this a 12-13mm equivalent I don't think there is a solution.
@NateGigovic
@NateGigovic Жыл бұрын
The only thing i can think of that would work is if you found a small matt box with one of those slide in nd filters (not variable) . But not sure if they even make it for small lenses as such and also it would be bulky compared to a screw on vnd@@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech

Yeah probably you’re right matte box would be the only solution but it has small diameter so I Don’t know. Probably just reduce aperture or increase shutter speed

Hi, what's the point of removing the black thing behind the lens? what does it improve exactly?
@aquinoj99

The A7IV can crop it fine and still stay at 4K. The ZV-E1 being only 12MP, will end up cropping in HD (Thus, the APSC mode is limited to HD) I'd still prefer the ZV-E1 in low light though, even in HD. Great job BTW!

@mjingj
@mjingj Жыл бұрын
It depends on the lens but like you see with this aps-c lens this isn't true. It will still read the full sensor read out and then upscale to the 4k, so you may still keep 80% of the zve1 sensor data, and the internal clear image zoom will try to retain as much detail as possible. This quality will be good on the zve1 I'm sure but this method and clear image zoom advancement probably will yield a better picture in the a7iv, and future a7C2 and a1II. If you turn on apsc mode it will crop out 40%+ of data.
@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech Жыл бұрын
@@mjingj yeah for sure you are right. But still XV-e1 ciz retains autofocus while a7iv ciz doesn’t. Still plenty good for vlogging. Of course if max pixel quality is your goal you should go with full frame 16-35
@mjingj
@mjingj Жыл бұрын
@Shades of Tech yup. I assume all future cameras like next a7c a7 alpha 1 will have all of these features. I will wait for an a7c II and zve1 firmware update before deciding which one to pick up. My A7IV will do the job just abit heavier.
@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech Жыл бұрын
Me too. But I am a little bit concerned of the XV-e1 4k 120 overheating issue. It already overheats at 4k60. Never buy a tech product over promise of future update. I need to see it first. Also a7iv 4k 30 is sharper due to 7k down sampling from bigger sensor and for talking heads is just bananas

Hi @Shades of Tech, it was very interesting for your secret finding of staying away from being vignetting at the four corners. I don't care if it's warranty-voided, can you advise how did you remove the bottom-top cover?
@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech Жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! Yes it improves a little bit, not massive difference but it’s better. There are just 4 screws to unscrew and you can remove the black plastic cover. In case you wanted to put it again you can do it as well just puttin everything back together with the screws

It helps a little bit in making the black border smaller, but definitely don't suggest doing that because it will void warranty and risk to damage the lens.

Pretty much like a 14mm after active mode and maybe another 1.1x crop to get rid of dark edge. A poor man's 14mm f1.8GM.

@@ShadesOfTech for what you do (and I do also), the 11mm is a much better option compared to the 14mm GM because it's 1/3 the weight of the 14mm and the 11mm has easier and less expensive filters.

There are 4 screws, just unscrew them and you can remove it. I didn’t talk much about it because it will instantly void warranty. Also exposes the lens to dust. It improves a little bit the black barrel but with active stab in ff mode you still need to crop in a little bit in post
