Great video! I don’t know why lately I’ve been fascinated with washers (specifically older ones). We had that exact same kenmore machine that your repaired in the video at a previous house. I was great….but was left when we moved. Currently we have a 8-ish year old kenmore that does just ok…..it has an agitator and will deep fill. But I am just waiting for a computer board to die or something. Hopefully we can find a decent older one to replace with when the time comes.

Love the old kenmores even the wood grain top units. People love them. You did good getting the one with the agitator. They just seem to do a better job for me. Thank you for watching. And the positive feedback 👍

Hey, we're up to -12°F, this morning. The look our house dogs gave me when I put them out this morning was nothing compared to the look they gave me when they came back in. The outside dogs? They decided two days ago that they were inside dogs. I don't blame them one bit. Barn cats and the rest of the animals are doing OK, but, then, we have a spell of this pretty much every winter. For you, this is no fun. Stay warm, stay safe.

You took the bull by the horns and disassembled that direct drive one handed. Other than the cabinet top and control panels the parts on the Kenmore and Whirlpool are interchangeable. Another reason to buy a cheap used one and refurbish it, parts are cheap and abundant. I would have replaced the coupler with the heavy-duty model, same if the clutch needed replacement.
@LAapplianceguy8 күн бұрын
Yes you are 100% correct such good machines. That’s why they stopped making them I guess. I rebuilt my DD kenmore set over 15 years ago and still going strong. Only changes a couple sets of dog ears. Crazy.

Older=Better. No question about it. I noticed you did the suspension rods back left/ front right and back right/ front left. Assume that is the easiest. I take notes. Oh, and you struggled not to mention 'rubber' and 'shaft'. I could see it in your eyes.

I second that remark, though to be fair, my husband has done his fair share of the house chores through the years. Made the five kids and the business possible and kept me in a much sweeter mood. The key to a man's heart might be through his tummy, the key to woman's heart is: Honey, I got the washing caught up.

I have a different point of view. I like a modern front loader with a built in heater. The heater is important as they use less water than the old top loaders. I'm not arguing the old direct drives lasted longer and were made better. I am strictly stating cleaning ability and clothes getting wrecked. I don't like agitators. I had a lot of clothes wrecked with holes, buttons pulled off etc etc. In my experience the front loaders with a heater are better on stains. Reliability wise is probably the most important to you and I agree with you. In my business they make junk and make dumb decisions. I make money off their dumb decisions. You make money repairing inferior kaka too. If they made everything bulletproof you and I might have to be in another business so I welcome corporate stupidity. Please don't stop. :) I told this story before here but maybe some new people haven't seen it. I went to a trade show with a teaching seminar. One company was known for making a bad part. It would have cost them like two cents to make this part never break. We all made a lot of money replacing this part. Some guy stands up all high and mighty and asks them when they are going to fix this failed part. The instructor said "think about it, do you really want us to fix the part?" Mr. high and mighty sat the F down and didn't say another peep. I love that story. :)

The union and most shops of the day would not have welcomed a girl into their fold if they hadn't been absolutely swamped, changing our the aluminum residential wiring for copper. It's the only reason I was welcomed and was able to establish my skill. And, yes, there's always some marginal product which keeps us in business.
