I was actually disappointed they replaced the acrylic crystal with a mineral one. I really wanted acrylic for the vintage aspect.

Oh wow I didn’t know they went to mineral glass from acrylic. That’s a shame, the acrylic definitely gives it that vintage aesthetic.

That Seagull movement is magnificent. I have it in a 1963 Pilot reissue. And Alpha is a solid brand for the money. I have their Moonwatch with a white sparkly dial. BE CAREFULL with that Seagull. It overwinds very easy. I had mine fixed twice. Once under warranty(had to send it back to China), and once be a local guy. They put a very large crown an a very delicate winding system.

I just picked up the black bezel version and I love it!!! The Gevril is out the world pricing now! 1200 for the original price and now fetching 3x that! Insane! And Steinhart just discontinued their version! I wanted that watch but I missed out! I heard they might be coming out with a thinner version but not sure how true that is. I just picked up the Le Jour Le Mans LJ-LM-001. It's way more expensive than the alpha but around the same price as the Steinhart if you find it on sale for 900 which I did. It's a slightly bigger watch at 42mm but it is a damn good looking watch! It's my Bday gift to myself! Not an exact replica of the PN Daytona but very very similar. It has it's own character but the influence is definitely the PN Daytona!

Ah I had not heard of that Le Jour Le Mans watch, great look that’s close but not an exact homage, has the sw500, great movement as well. Are the little nicks and scratches printed into the dial, or are they from previous repairs?

So from what I can tell it’s almost like little flecks of paint or something inside the crystal. Someday I’m gonna remove the movement and give it a nice cleaning.

Great video. Nice watch. I have the ST19 powered Phylida version. Sells for a little over $200 CAD. It is a bargain. My timegrapher says it is accurate to better that 5 secs\day. I think the ST19 is a great and also a beautiful movement. I am not in the snack bracket to pay thousands for a watch. So, its a no from me to even think about considering it.

Also, another fun thing about your model is that it has been discontinued with the red "chronograph" wording over the 6 o'clock subdial. And it seems these have become worth a bit more thsn the newer models. The reason they removed the red letters are because of the use of the word chronometer under the logo. So they removed that and replaced it with the word "chronograph" instead. I like to think of these models as Alpha's "Big Red". Really beautiful watch, I have the silver panda with black bezel, and I'm wearing it at this very moment.

I don’t think it’s possible to swap the bezels. 😞 when I looked at mine the bezel is part of the case since it’s fixed and not rotating. I’m not sure if they make these steel versions anymore but I would keep an eye out on eBay and other sites! 😎👍

Now I've often thought about getting one of these just for that awesome seagull ST19. I think there's a ton of value with these far more positives than negatives imo & the whole homage thing is a matter of personal preference & having reviewed a ton of the darn things I've only actually kept one in my collection, errrr 🤔 unless you include the Tudor BB which kinda borders on that territory 😉 Haha there's a whole discussion to be had right there. As for the Alpha. Would I buy one?.......yes. Would I keep it?......probably not! Glad you got your apple glitch sorted man. 👍🍻😊

For sure if you can find it at a good deal, I’d say around $200 is worth it. Once they are in the $350 and up, I’d say there are better options to consider for the money. But the heart wants what it wants so some will pay whatever they feel it’s worth. 😎🙌

Geez! Five grand for an homage. You can get yourself a Rolex Explorer I or an Omega Speedmaster for that in the used market. What an idiotic thing to do.
