There is a huge recline Buddha on a huge bolder further from the water falls. I visited this historical hill way back in the 60s as a boy with my family members before the long civil war erupted. Only memory lives on. Sharing is caring from ForRiel as always. Peace✌️

Thanks for the video. You can observe the reverence our ancestors held for mother nature. In their perspective, everything possessed a spiritual essence. Just prior to the war, 1970, I recall my grandparents having to present food and offer prayers to the avatar before he felled a small tree....

As always, great video and a fascinating glimpse into a relatively hidden gem of Khmer culture. Sublimely beautiful, the way the water constantly flows across the linga symbolically energizing and blessing the river, the land and its people. I'm also imagining a guild of sculptors sweating in the midst of a long-term temple project chipping away at stones in the merciless Cambodian sun and the new guy offhandedly said: "Man, what I wouldn't give for our next gig to be in the middle of a river!" And all of the sculptors stopped in mid-chip...

Yes, very similar - they are zero drop Merrells and they have the more square toe box. Miss Clare, those Lingas would have taken ages to Carve, so at one stage there must have been a reasonable Population at & near the Falls, i guess it was a constant supply of fresh water. After 90min on a bike my rapidly shrinking "arrss" cheeks would be protesting with Gusto😁
@ForRiel9 ай бұрын
Yes, they must have dammed the river to make the carvings. I think the estimated size of the Angkorian empire has been revised up in recent years. It's amazing how much was done during the Angkorian period. It was only about 600 years, but so many monuments were constructed. Yes, a long ride on the bike does become a little uncomfortable but so worth it! Thanks for watching :)

Entry to this site, Kbal Spean, is included in the Angkor Pass that also covers Angkor Wat and all the other famous temples, and you have to buy it either at the Angkor Ticket Office in town or online. As an Aussie motorcyclist of over 50 years, the no helmet thing and kids stacked on the bikes is hard for me to take. I was also a Operating Theatre Technician for 20 years, so it is difficult to see them so nonchalant about it
@ForRiel9 ай бұрын
Yes, the lack of helmets, drunk driving, and using a phone while riding (usually messaging in my experience!) are all big issues. An education campaign is needed, I think. I remember in the 80's when there was a big crackdown on drunk driving in Queensland, there were also lots of TV ads, etc. There's a long way to go, and seeing it firsthand is a very good reminder. Thanks for watching. :)

As awful as it is to say, there is something two people I know who live in Cambodia both said, and from watching this video I see that yes, it's true: ever since the number of Chinese tourists has plummeted since Covid, Cambodia's tourist sites and their surrounding ares are a lot cleaner, with a lot less literal than before.
@ForRiel9 ай бұрын
Yes everyone I saw at this site was very respectful, and the site was spotlessly clean. I didn't see any rubbish on the ground. The buses that were there when I left were full of Indian tourists. I think that is a great market for Siem Reap because of the Hindu history of many of the ancient sites. Thanks for watching!
