I had a problem today. The upper element is receiving 240V properly, which indicates it seems to be working fine. However, the lower heating element is getting 120V on each terminal while the upper element is operating. When I check the voltage across it, I get 0V. Do you know what might be the cause?

When checking the element terminals, if you’re getting 120V on each leg to the ground and 0V across the two, for that element you are only getting one leg of the 240V. Since it’s the bottom element, the switched leg is not switching. That being said, keep in mind that one element is powered at a time. Check out my other video on: Electric Water Heater-Understand How It Works So You Can Troubleshoot Why It’s Not Working Correctly kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKOldKasiaymnbM Hope this helps.

How do you check if the entire tank is grounded properly?
@JustForYouDiy28 күн бұрын
Use an ohmmeter to check continuity between the tank and the ground on the main power connections. Hope this helps.

what if i have 240v at terminal but it isnt drawing current?
@JustForYouDiyАй бұрын
If you’re getting 240 at the heating element’s terminals and there is no current draw, the element is open (defective). You can also watch my video on: Electric Water Heater-Understand How It Works So You Can Troubleshoot Why It’s Not Working Correctly kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKOldKasiaymnbM This will help you understand the operation and element sequencing. How do adjust the meter? I think my range, etc on the meter is not set properly
@JustForYouDiy3 ай бұрын
Every meter is different. You have to check your meter’s owner manual. Hope this helps.
