I went back to watch this video again as I finally bought an injector. I just realized in the section about flo-disks, Greg cited the flows in GPM (gallons per minute) where it should be GPH (gallons per hour). Same in the chart they showed (should be GPH). It's correct when he did his examples afterwards though (GPH)

Can I use this injector with master blend liquid fertilizer for my garden? Also I'm confused with the instructions when using the flow disk. My direction for my fertilizer says to use 8oz. per 100 gallons of water. If I use a flow disk how many ounces should I use? Thanks in advance for your help.

The flo disc is only used if you have a small garden. I am not sure what a master blend fertilizer is. If it's water-soluble, it should work.

This is from our website. Hope it helps. Drip systems with less than 120 gallons per hour (GPH) water flow may require a Flo-Disc in order to inject the solution into the drip system. There are three discs provided for these conditions. Important: You must have colored fertilizer in the injection tank or food dye to adjust the system. Let the system run for a few minutes to make sure the fertilizer is not flowing before installing or changing the Flo Disc. If there is no color in the clear tube, the system is not flowing, and a more restrictive Flo-Disc is required for operation. White Flo-Disc 120 to 60 gph Black Flo-Disc 60 to 30 gph Red Flo-Disc 30 to 7.5 gph Note: The Flo-Disc is not intended for pressure reduction and cannot be used for this purpose. The Flo-Disc will create additional bypass through the tank when necessary to speed up injection.

150psi is way too much. You will need to get it below 80psi for the injector and 50psi for the drip tape.

You guys would sell way more if there was an indoor version for these fertilizer injectors I see it over and over again these high gpm or gph ratings only applied to massive grows , I need a system that is presice and lower gpm or gph ratings since I'd only be irrigating 4 plants, cannibis is legalized I'm surprised nobody is going for it . Crazy maybe I should invest, I need a ratio of like 1:300 fert:water and be able to adjust precisely over time , so I think I'm stuck with going with the dosatron or something similar

Thanks for covering this, I did not know about the range of flow which will help. I have some Mystery Meat "NETAFILM" drip tape with 18" Spacing. Blasted package doesn't say what the flow rate is of the emitters but I found on their website it lists @ 10psi - "0.16, 0.24, 0.36" Gallons/Hour-Emitter. With 600 feet of rows, my guess is that is below the minimum just like with my siphon injector. Unless I am wrong? Please tell me I am wrong, those rows are getting TIGHT :-|

Went with surface and the line expands/contracts and even with staples it walks all over my onions. Need the wheel hoe and next year bury this stuff... Not knowing the flow rate is a serious hamper though, I absolutely hate hand-fertilizing almost 1k plants :-|

depends on what you are fertilizing and how many rows you are watering. Also depends on your soil. In general, when using our Hoss Fertilizer Injector, mix 1-2 lbs of 20-20-20 per 1,000 square feet of garden. Apply every 2-3 weeks or as plants appear to need it.

So if I am running 22 drip lines at 35 ft each then my total footage is 770ft and at .4 gpm per hundred ft of tape...I would take 24X8 for a total of 192 gpm so I would need no flow disk for my set up...just checking to see if I got formula figuring down pat

770 ft of drip tape at 0.4 gpm / 100 ft = 3.1 gpm or 185 gallons per HOUR. Typically, 100 ft of 3/4" garden hose at 40 PSI can deliver about 12 gpm.

@@NCF8710 OK I see where I went wrong I got it figured for gph instead of gpm after going back and watching video again but know that leads me to this question why did he figure up .4 X 60 for a 100 ft row to come up with his amount when that figures gph and the flow disk is gpm or so it says...so could he have made a mistake and the flow disk is gph instead?

If your GPH is over 12, you don't need a flo disc.

no, the 12 PSI regulator will not work. You need to get your PSI under 50 for it to work

@@CraigDAL12 The injector requires higher pressure to operate. So I think he's referring to regulating your INPUT side to less than 50psi, then reduce to 12psi for your drip tape. So seems like they want the input range to be 40-50psi.

My stats...12x30 garden, 4 rows irrigated with Hoss small garden drip system, drip emitters every 6in putting out .5GPH, add up all the emitters I get 240 @ .5gph = 120gph. Tomatoes are the crop, soil is very high fertility loam/Herrick, zone 6b, did the 5 gallon bucket flow test and timed it at 60 seconds to fill the 5 gallon bucket. So thats 300 gallons per hour flow volume. Water pressure is under 50psi. I also use a 25psi regulater AFTER the spigot and BEFORE the Hoss regulator/filter on the drip irrigation. My question is with all these numbers how do I figure the amount of product to mix into the Hoss EZ flow tank? Im using the Hoss calcium nitrate, micro nutrients and the 20 20 20 fertilizer. My preference is to water weekly with a reduced feeding rate rather than dumping product on the crop all at once. Even every three or four days with even a lower rate suits me. Thanks, loving the small garden irrigation setup.

I would start with: 3-5 cups 20-20-20 4 cups Micro Boost Then the next week: 3-5 cups calcium Nitrate 4 cups Micro Boost Watch your plants and adjust accordingly. Greg

I still can't figure out a simple method to determine how much fertilizer to add. Does 1/2 cup of 20-20-20 water soluble per 10' of row vegetables sound about right???

Yes, exactly About ½ cup of garden fertilizer for every 10 feet of row usually is enough. The amount and timing of fertilizer needed varies according to the type of vegetable planted. Side dressing increases the yield of most vegetables. Fertilize fall gardens in the same way as spring gardens.

Our Complete Organic Fertilizer is not water soluble. So it can not be put in the injector.

If an injector will not be used for an extended period, it should be removed from service. Flush the system with clean water, either by pumping water through the unit before removing it or by rinsing these parts after removal. When the injector is removed from service it should be drained completely to prevent water from freezing inside during the colder months. During the hot summer, it is recommend to not leave it out in the hot sun for extended period of time when not in use.

@@gardeningwithhoss in my case, I'd like to place inside a well house (indoors) during the summer to feed 14 different zones. I'd like to just leave it on the high pressure side, before the manifold, during the spring and early summer. That way I don't have to move it from zone to zone since they all need the same treatment. It will have to be refilled at least 7 times, but at least I wouldn't have to move it constantly. Would this be a safe use case? It would then be removed and washed late summer and stored

You can go to the hardware store and find you a small compression spring and slide it in there and put it up against the flow disc

I had this problem also. When you install the disc get everything set and turn on the water supply. Make sure that the two black cutoff are off. Let the drip tape fill up. Then turn on the black tubing valve then wait about 10 seconds then turn on the clear tubing valve. If you put something into the brass fitting you may block the small hole going to the tank through the black tubing. I found that when you turn off the main water supply to the tank and have a back flow valve the water knock the flow disc off it’s seat. Any back flow will knock the disc off it’s seat.

something is not quite adding up for me. the tape is rated at 0.48 gallons per minute per 100 foot. So to just get into red disc range (say 48 gpm) you would need 10,000 feet of tape. I have a small plot, with roughly 200 feet of tape laid out into rows. i'll try red disc. oh, the figures you have is gallons per hour; not per minute. cool.

I am a bit confused. The chart you display shows GPM gallons per minute I assume. But when you explain it you seem to be referring to gallons per hour. I have installed about 600 ft of your drip tape plus I have some straw Bale gardening setup with drip emitters on the same line. I can fill a 5 gallon bucket in 35 seconds straight out of the faucet. I go from the injector into a 3/4 PVC pipe which runs the length of my garden. Off of this PVC pipe I have 5 faucets spaced about every 20 ft. Each faucet goes to a section of main line and then out to four to six rows of drip tape. With this setup can I fertilize the entire garden at once or should I try to do it in sections? Do I need a flow disc? I don't think so but the GPM/GPH has me confused.

Should your chat be in GHP not GPM you could not flow the amounts in your chart at GPM with a city water supply a hose would not do 70 GPM

Some folks have wells that will do 70gpm and more. Most city systems work within the requirements of the irrigation kit.

All is A OK until you begin to talk about the "Flo Discs" - I'm sorry Greg but teaching my ex-wife to drive a standard shift tractor was easier than following your Start-Stop rinse and repeat instructions. I also followed Travis's instructions with the same result. I have ordered my injector system and must call when I put it to use. I am worried about blowing the hoses and drip lines out.
