When I do this the controller never shows up yellow in toxinput. it just is all greyed out. But when I play the game and toxinput is running, the joystick/d pad on my controller doesn't make the character move, even when I configure it correctly

Wait a minute, I just downloaded the toxic input file and it had NO toxicinput.exe file whatsoever (when i extracted the file).

Sorry its been so long! Make sure your controller is on and connected before you start the tutorial. I might not be much help for this, but possibly the reddit page or some of the other resources in the description can help. Also, might seem silly, but make sure you got the European rom. I hope this helps somewhat

I believe there is an option to hide the touch screen view altogether under view -> lcd layout

I had the same issue when using a 3rd party Xinput controller, but after removing the "XInput9_1_0.dll" file that's in the ToxInput folder, the options lit up. Hope that helps!

Can you please help? I followed all your steps, the toxic input options even light up for me. I'm using the correct version of desmume. But it just doesnt work. When I click on either of the options in toxic input nothing happens.

I'm sorry it's been so long. But if you're still having the problem, perhaps make sure your controller is on before you start the tutorial. You could also try using your controller wired if you haven't. Also, make sure you also have the European rom of Super Mario 64 DS. If this doesn't help, try looking at the reddit page or other resources in the description. I found a post saying to delete "XInput9_1_0.dll" from the ToxInput folder if your controller isn't recognized. :)

Yo just to let you know, the version of desmume x432r that's currently in your description is outdated and isn't compatible with tox input. you want to get the version from april 19th 2015 i wish i could send the link but youtube strikes me down every time lol.

thanks for letting me know! The original link for desmume x32r went down recently and I tried finding a new one, but this was the closest I could find. I'm sorry that it didn't work. What type of Xbox controller do I need? Toxinput doesn't seem to work with a Series S controller

I know this is super late but I think this should work with any xinput device. So anything that comes up as an Xbox controller in windows should work.

Hmm. Are you using the version of desmume from the description? I think desmume has to be open before toxinput is opened. Also make sure you're using the European ROM of Super Mario 64 DS

As long as you can see toxinput.exe and launch it, it should be fine. Let me know if you can’t find it and I can provide more info :). It’s possible the folder structure changed with toxinput v1.0.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. There may be similar mods for games like that. If the game uses the touch screen for the camera, you may be able to use something like joy2key to make it work.

I believe I've done everything right, however it will not work and I am using a switch pro controller. I suspect this will not work with a pro controller, as I haven't heard of anyone else using this method with a pro controller.

Pro controllers work a little strangely with windows it seems, especially through bluetooth. You could check out this driver: www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/9cu0ev/pro_controller_joycon_driver_for_windows_10/ It converts your Pro Controller inputs to Xinput. What kind of controller are you using? I have had issues with controllers other than the Xbox One's in the past. Here are some things that could help. Make sure your controller is on and connected to your computer before you open both the emulator and toxinput, otherwise they might not detect your controller. If that doesn't work and you are using the controller wirelessly, maybe try wired. If none of that works, maybe the reddit post in the description could help. I found a post saying to delete "XInput9_1_0.dll" from the ToxInput folder if your controller isn't recognized, but I'm not sure if that will break something else.

Sorry, I just saw in another comment that deleting that file didn't work for you. Could you try typing out your steps that you did to set this up? Maybe I can help you and some others that might have these problems with it to get it working.
