Best Way to Improve in Pickleball? Drills vs Pickleball Gameplay

I used the terms "recreational" versus "competitive" to distinguish play. "Competitive" being tournaments and leagues or play against similarly matched players who all agree we are playing to win. Anyway, hopefully most of us are playing to have fun.

I wish there were pickleball leagues like Little League for grownups--two practices a week with plenty of drill and scrimmage, then once a week for league play. As it is now, if I want to get better, I have to find and pay a coach for private lessons. I play pickup ball 1x-2x a week, but that's really the only practice I get, and it's hard to find and correct bad habits that way.

Wouldn’t that be so much fun! Such as USTA tennis leagues. Many of these are starting to form though I bet in a few years these will be fairly prevalent!

I’m a hockey guy and we have a couple names for when we get together to play games outside of an organized league. We call this type of hockey a “scrimmage” or more commonly “shinny”. It would be great if we could come up with a word for this type of pickleball match! Love the videos brother. Keep up the great work. Godspeed

Thanks Steve! Scrimmage is a great idea and I’ve never heard of “shinny” but I like the sound of it! 🤘 plus if it’s comes from hockey I’m in! I love watching hockey. Wish I could skate better and try and play! 🤣 I’ll stick to tennis shoes on a pickleball court for now and leave hockey to you pros! Lol

Most rec players don't like competition. I feel like calling it "competition play" is a good way to name the style of play without making anyone uncomfortable. Rec players will see the difference without that "awkward" moment.
