Best Way to Paint Edges (without tape!)

This is the easiest way to paint wall edges without having to tape walls.
Shur Line Edger: www.sears.com/shur-line-edger-... (We got our at our local Ace Hardware store but they don't seem to sell it online).
I spent hours taping my ceilings before this and the paint would still bleed under it because all my walls are textured. Thanks to my father in law, I learned about this edger and it has saved me SO much time.
Make sure you are careful when dipping it in the paint. Try not to saturate it with paint and always make sure you raise the guides so you don't get paint on them. Also make sure the pad hasn't slipped too far forward or it will get paint on the adjacent edge. Happy Painting!

I bought the Shur Line edge painter after watching your video. It worked great! I used another KZbinr's technique of loading the pad with a brush. You have more control over the amount of paint on the pad. I figured out how to apply the paint to the corners without getting it on the ceiling and the baseboards. You basically roll it to the corner and stay there for a few seconds before you move the pad away. Then you glide down the other wall and rest in that same corner for a few seconds then pull the pad away. I was painting an accent wall. My corners are perfect and I didn't use an inch of tape. Thanks for your video. It helped me a lot.

Yep, that's what I do, load the pad with a brush, works beyond terrific. Just make sure that you clean it immediately when done, or just drop it in a soapy water bucket, the longer you wait, the harder to clean. I have used the pads over and over and over!

I love, love this tool. Been doing so much painting lately I've wondered why I'm not professional quality yet? It's this thing that changed my life. I painted 3 rooms in under 3 hours with this thing. Not only does it edge perfectly, but for over the doorways and windows in this short room, it's 3 strokes, and done. Only thing. I have a hard time with "gently" while painting, so I have a bucket for the paint, and a tray with just a small amount of paint for this thing only. You do a good job of explaining that you have to protect the edger part from paint.

This kind of paint pad is best loaded using a brush so you can keep paint away from the rollers.

Wish I watched this video before I painted my sons room. Tape takes a long tine to prep and yes paint still bleeds thru. I will most def get me one. Thank you much.

If you know what you're doing paint never bleeds under tape. Just google it. All the best.

They have these in all different brands. I've been using one since I was a kid my grandfather showed me how cool they are. It's called an edger they've been around since like 1950 LOL

How do you get it to go in the corner? Specifically when two walls and the ceiling meet? I am having trouble doing it.

+Sarah Poulin Hey Sarah. Thanks for commenting! When I painted, I carefully went up to the ceiling. Its been a while since I posted this and painted but I recall just using a small paintbrush to touch up that top corner (like the small brushes you'd use in art class to paint a picture). When using the edger, be careful to not over dip it into the paint so the paint doesn't get on your ceiling/other wall. Hope that helps!

I have used this tool. No, you don't have to cut the pad, it comes that way.

Jonny Bravo , I always put the rollers or pads in a ziploc plastic bag, and that can keep it from drying out for days, if needed.

Why do you use tape at the bottom if you can use this tool?

The wheel need something to contact, like ceiling or door frame. The molding is too thin.

Never dip them. Use brush to add paint. Literally paint the pad and you’ll get great results every time

...until you get paint on the little wheels. And you will. At that point you'll be cursing this gadget because now you have an adjacent wall to touch up, a gadget to clean, and wait to dry. Learn to cut in with a brush instead.

Or, just like when using a brush, you be very careful. If you do this you can avoid getting paint on the wheels.

I applied a little silicone spray with a tiny brush (spray on brush, apply to wheel), and that seemed to help the paint not stick to the wheel. Or maybe I was just very careful.

The older model of the edger was way better, the new one is not well constructed and leaks on the wall/ceiling to much.

Na,best way is too just use a quality stiff bristle angle brush and learn the right way.

@@johnwelk6675 for productivity and painting as a job this is not a wise option. there is no learning curve to this device meaning you get what you get with it, no improvement. for a homeowner, its perfect because they arent wanting to learn to paint fast. for a person on the job they should never be using this device. they will run into popcorn ceiling where they cannot use this along the top cutins and their job will be significantly longer because they have not been using a brush.

Good luck using this where popcorn ceilings meet the wall. A good brush and a steady hand are the best way to cut edges in.

I found it doesn't get right into the corners and you have to be right onto keeping those wheels clean otherwise you get painted line on the wrong wall.
