great tips. I was using a hack version of this by keeping the Keynote edit window open with thumbnail navigation and dragging the window off-screen to the right showing only the thumbnails. I was actually using this to display lower thirds from Keynote in OBS via a magenta background for the OBS chroma key, cropping the window in OBS to just the lower third while having larger text showing the title/contents of the lower third in the full thumbnail.

Nice video, Mr. Kinney, many thanks. Your tutorials are always excellent. In re. streaming Keynote, the other simple solution, which I have been using for years (nearly 600 approx 90-minute live shows using OBS, with 50-100 Keynote slides including embedded video for each show), is to run Keynote on a second computer (or iPad or even iPhone) and send clean output to the main computer running OBS/Zoom/etc via HDMI (and a capture card), or via NDI. This allows you to run the Keynote in presenter mode (with or without the slide navigator also displayed) on the second computer without taking up screen real estate on the main computer, and without burdening its CPU/GPU. The second computer need not be new or powerful, and these days a good video capture card is under US$20. Thanks again for your continuing helpful tutorials. -TFE

Great tutorial. I also use keynote in edit-mode as a live-editable character generator for lower thirds and such using a similar method. I open my keynote presentation at so that it fills the screen from top to bottom viewing the slide at 75% with the thumbnail panel open. I then add a window source in obs select the keynote presentation, and crop it in obs to fit the screen or crop to my lower third. I can then drag the main slide portion of keynote off screen to the right side of my main window, leaving the thumbnails visible at their largest possible size for viewing and selecting. If I need to edit one of the slides, I simply drag it full to my right monitor and edit. I also must keep the right inspector hidden and if doing lower thirds, make sure I have sized the right border of keynote to at least one pixel within the slide itself if doing lower thirds. HEX: ff44a4 (magenta) keys out rather smoothly for obs color keys.

Hi, I enjoyed this video. I have a question: I do sermons/presentations at my church and other locations. I use keynote for my slides and record the video through a Canon HD camera. Then I take all my media and drill it into Final Cut Pro X. This can take days to complete as I am not exactly tech savvy and am old school. How can I use OBS to eliminate the final step of Final Cut Pro editing and stream both video and slides together? After Final Cut I upload it to KZbin. Any help would be appreciated. Great stuff! A quick question, if I may: when I go to the window view in Keynote and then record it in OBS, the "window" that OBS provides is more "square" than my 16:9 slides. As a result what I see on the recording is a white line across the top of my slide as it is smaller than the OBS frame. I've tried a bunch of adjustments to settings and searched online but no resolution. Any help appreciated!

Did you use "Display Capture" or "Application Capture" or "Window Capture"? Was your Keynote Playback Window in "Full Screen" mode?

Where is Keynote? On another screen? In Screen Capture settings, you need to select the screen to capture.

If you have static slides, sure. But if you have animations, transitions, and effects in your slideshow that you want to show (one of the many strengths of Keynote), you need to play your Keynote slideshow.
