if you care about cabin noise and want to lower it more you can also add in closed cell pe foam as a second layer to decouple actual sound waves on the butyl rubber. I'd also target doors, wheel wells, hood which is engine noise, etc. Floor is also optional

I used that exact same killmat when I did mine earlier this summer. I'd say it definitely helped and I'd like to do more of it over time.

It works great! I have a few more spots I plan to add it to but just doing the trunk alone made such a difference

I’ve been wanting to take this project on. Well done sir! I will also do under the rear seat since the mufflers are located there

Good call on the rear seats, I'll be doing that next with the sheets I have left over. I've got links to the products in the description. If you end up doing this to yours, let me know!

I bought an 01 Mustang GT and the previous owner had done the worst thing ever... Deleted the cats and made it strait pipe with empty see through mufflers... I went to get the car in another city like you did... I drove 8 hours with ear plugs... I even got stopped at one point cause the cops heard me from far away as they where getting back in their patrol car after stopping somebody... First thing I did when they stopped me was pulling out my ear plugs. I asked them to speak louder cause I was slowly going death ! I got a sound warning... First thing I did to the car was magnaflow cats and a magnaflow cat back... Now the car is 10X more enjoyable ! Drone sucks ! I'm 44 so I need it to be quiet also.

did you consider a roll-on bed liner? passenger cabin, under the seats is next. possibly add denim chip mat/cloth as a soft layer to attenuate higher frequencies...road/tire noise are also infiltrating the cabin. bonus: 20lbs over the traction wheels...
@tonysprojectgarage3 ай бұрын
I didn't consider roll-on for two reasons: It is very messy and you actually need foam/rubber to properly mitigate noise. I plan to to the rear seat area, possibly the trans tunnel, and other areas to really minimize cabin noise as much as possible. This product worked great and the install was very simple.

i removed the spare tire and the foam out of my WRX. OMG the noise was crazy. Everything was vibrating and shaking inside.
@tonysprojectgarage3 ай бұрын
I bet! With nothing to absorb the vibration, the noise must have been unbearable. This Kilmat stuff helps so much!

What is the estimated weight gain of the trunk insulation?
@tonysprojectgarage3 ай бұрын
The kilmat is .5lb per square foot. I need to check but my guess is an increase of about 7lbs
@KINGRG13 ай бұрын
@@tonysprojectgarageThat sounds more than worth it. If you go higher up in the HP department, that bit of added weight will actually benefit you. Sub’d to the channel.
