Best way to repack camper trailer wheel bearings | Step by step to repack bearings and replace seals

One of the most important RV maintenance tips is to REPACK YOUR TRAILER'S WHEEL BEARINGS. This video will walk you through step-by-step to be able to inspect, repack, and replace your seals on your own to maintain your rv/camper trailer without having to pay hundreds, if not thousands to a shop that may or may not do the job right. We recommend to do this once a year or every 10,000 miles but always follow your manufacturer's specific guidelines, failure to do so can result in severe injury or death. This video was made to entertain only and if you choose to use the video as a guide you do so at your own risk. Excellent video! I'm going to follow your instructions to repack our travel trailer bearings this spring before we head out on our first trip. Our local RV shop charges $400 to perform this service so this is a huge cost savings. I loaded up my Amazon cart and took a quick trip to AutoZone and got everything I needed for $160. Now I have the tools to perform this service on my trailer every year saving tons of $$, plus the headache of hauling it to the RV service center and back home. It’s really an easy job, just a little messy. It takes a little sweat equity and like you said, you can save yourself hundreds of dollars and a lot of time doing it yourself. Excellent instructional video Wilson! I had my rear tire on our rv catch fire on I-10 in Texas back in February. Luckily Tracey was behind me and got me to pull over. Otherwise we probably would have lost our rig. Needless to say, I repacked all bearings when we got to our destination.

It’s not a fun job and it’s definitely a messy one but it is 100% necessary. I’m so glad y’all were able to avoid a terrible disaster and able to pull over before things got worse. Tires and wheels, bearings, and suspension are so important and have to be maintained regularly. We repack our bearings every spring regardless of mileage as a safety precaution. We know anything can happen even with the best maintenance but at least we feel better repacking and inspecting the bearings. I know some folks can’t do the job themselves and they should pay someone to do this important task but those who can change a tire can do this preventative maintenance cheaply and relatively easy. Good video for a diyer but 1 important thing was forgotten the axle spindle nut was overtightened 50 ft. Ilbs is to set preload on the bearing assembly then it should be backed off and hand tightened for proper backlash on bearings so that they do not overheat this Is why your rear seal was failing and outer bearing grease was burnt. Other than that great job

Last year during this process on my solitude I pulled the hub off and found a big crack in it. I say this for those people that don’t completely take everything apart to pack the bearing and just use a grease gun

Great video, helped this DIYer do the job. One question... How many pumps of the grease gun did you do into the spindle at the end?

Thanks Gordon, I just pumped 2-3 short pumps, you don’t have to do it as they are greased well once you repack. Be sure to turn the wheel as you pump and be careful not to blow out the rear seal. Some people pump 10-15 times and blow the seal. By the way, I just did my bearings this weekend after putting almost 10,000 miles on them in the last year, and they looked like new from the time I did this video. Good luck and safe travels!
