The "old castle" round towers above the ww2 bunkers you were showing were built by the Saracens in the 12th century to defend the area. The villages were built by farmers, not fishermen. By the 13th century they were already known to be great wine makers 🍷👌🏼 The "man with the dog" is saint Francis of Assisi taming the wolf 🐺 I LOVED Cinque Terre, so much history, and the area is just spectacular. Not only can you use the train, there's also a ferry boat to see the villages from the sea as you stop in each one, and of course there's several trails to hike the entire area from above! ❤ I'm so enjoying these videos 😍

Good morning! What beautiful towns. What a different and unique black and white churches. I was watching Snow walking up those stairs and when you came into the opening just after that little church I was hoping that Snow would have a place that she could sit down I'm so happy that she did. What a wonderful wonderful Walkabout. I also enjoyed seeing that little lady walk up the stairs just ahead of Snow and then watch her walk through that opening that you were describing. I "lived" in Modena for 5 weeks when I took classes there. Apparently, that's where the balsamic vinegar is made (best steak I have EVER had was soaked in it there). I loved walking to market to stock up on groceries to take in the culture; and there was a great pizza place on the square where I would get a slice for a euro (you wouldn't think pizza with onion, eggplant and potato would be amazing, but it was!) I did go to the Ferrari Museum one day, and it was so neat. I think you'd enjoy it if you get the chance!

We visited in 2011 just a couple weeks before the disastrous flooding in Monterosso and Vernazza -- I'm glad to see Monterosso looks good and hope you post a video of Vernazza after your visit there! We hiked the path between the two towns -- up and down through those amazing terraces, and I'll never forget buying fresh home-made Limoncello on the way back and sipping it under a lemon tree. Probably NOT the best idea for such a strenuous hike on a sunny day, but a great memory!

Good morning Snow and Curt ☀️ What a jammed packed video, so many incredible sights! I love how the five towns are set up with the train service, such a cool way to explore. Snow, it's amazing how well you are doing with all the hills and stairs, knowing it was only a short time ago that you were in the hospital with your heart. Never mind full one surgery back in Colombia. So happy that you're still able to do what you both had planned, even if it needs to be a bit slower. Slow and steady allows you to stop and smell the roses, or the lemons while in Italy 😊 I know you have another eight or more years to travel the world before you settle down into your new home, but I'm starting to think that Brazil might be your top pick. The fondness in your voice as you compare the roads and neighbourhoods to South America makes me think it might be a fore runner 😊 Can't wait to see the next town and see what it has to offer with you two on Saturday. Safe travels, 🤗🇨🇦

Gorgeous. Brings back memories of an amazing vacation in Vernazza and all of Cinque Terra. We hiked between all 5 villages and it was magical. Hiking brings you upon the next village nice and slow, you can really savour the views as you approach. Cardio villages for sure. Hope your family decide to visit this area so you can spend more time here. But the trains being so easy to take, and cheap, you can base elsewhere and just visit this area. Everything is so close to each other. Looking forward to seeing our beloved Vernazza. Hope you tried fresh fried anchovies Curt. To die for. Not at all what people envision.

The geology of the Cinque Terra seaside contains folded bands of sandstone, limestone, schist and claystone. These bands you looked at were formed by landslides and alluvial underwater fans of sediments during the Paleozoic era and were uplifted and faulted. You’ll see plenty of these formations as you travel south.

The Santuario di Soviore that I stayed in was just 10 minutes winding up the hill from Monterosso. It was a long pink stucco building with high ceilinged rooms with windows that opened out to a public terrace of tall olive trees overlooking the sea and cliffs. No private balcony as monasteries are spare, but a unique experience away from the hustle and bustle of the towns. Was only $79/nite in 2008…I remember breakfast being a little strange, as one doesn’t usually eat seafood then, not that I ever eat it, but it was included. I’m sure I found some pizza later!
