I’ve tried this technique before and it can work good. The problem I found was when it goes below freezing those tight loops wouldn’t relax and pay out. A woman told me it’s a crochet stitch. I stick to short cords, double them over, and then only 2 or 3 loops. Not everyone has the forethought to warm a cord or a hose on blacktop prior to winding.

I've been doing this for a while and find that it's also easy to toss a few of the loops over some nails that the previous home owner put in the wall of the garage. Keeps that cord off the floor and I never trip on it.

Hey Jeremy, I just found you today and I'm thrilled with your way of rolling up an extension cord. Why hasn't anyone shown me this yet? This isn't new, but it is for me. I'm glad to have found you. thanks for sharing it with the world. Greetings from Germany.

You’re making a crochet single chain with your wire. And, for clarity, you might not want to call it daisy chaining… as that’s a term commonly used to refer to chaining multiple extension cords or power strips.

Look up the over/under method. It keeps your cords from being tangles and keeps them nice and flat when you throw it out.

I've seen this technique for ropes but I never would have thought I'd it for those long extension cords! Thanks for the great tip and the very helpful videos (you helped us with the leaky spigot too!).

I always manage to unravel it in some way that doesn't work... it's the same way parachute cords are done, I think, I certainly won't be packing anyone's parachute.

First time I tried it I couldn’t unravel it. Second time was the charm. Don’t know what I did since I know I got the first part right and just kept reaching through each loop. *shrug*

Went to find the centre of your extension cord are you have to do is plug both hands together and pretty much. That is pretty good centre when you extend it out if you don’t have a mom

For years, I've been using a technique which avoids twisting the cord as it's being wrapped and that's helped a lot with knots, but I'll need to give your method a try as it looks way more versatile.

I have a much easier way to get rid of tangles in ropes and extension cords. The thing that makes this work is that you tied both ends together. I grew up on a farm. We used 150 foot ropes to hoist pipes up the side of a silo through a pully system. All you need do is tie both ends together. Then just gather it up and throw it in your tool box or truck box. Grab those two ends and just throw the rest out. Never a knot.
