Thank you for the tip. It was intimidating because I have 4 tall ones growing together that need trimming. This will make it much easy to handle.

Hello David! I was scrolling through videos looking for help with my pampus. Your garden and accent called to my ancestral blood 😉 This video has been very helpful in caring for my other grasses ~ thank you! But, it's the pampus that's the problem 😩 This year it produced a lot of "stalks" ~ failed to bloom! It's a 10 year old monster, that has never been trimmed or cut back. Stays green all year round in this California climate. (Which could be the variety ~ I'm not sure). My reason for watching videos on tips to trim this monster down. Is there another reason why the stalks were unable to bloom? Any advice would be greatly appreciated ❤️ Thank you!

Thanks, it's great to hear you are finding our efforts helpful. With your pampas, it sounds like maybe it is in need to dividing! Sometimes when perennials and grasses establish into older clumps they begin to loose vigor and "run out of steam". Dividing them or even just digging out a few portions of the plant and replanting them into another position will revitalize them. With pampas this is not an easy job.... It is best done in early spring before the new growth commences. Trim off the old top growth of course, and then with a sharp spade or mattock, you can chop down and remove part of the clump, that then it is replanted in a good sized hole with plenty of organic matter and watered until it becomes established and grows away. With the remaining clump you could try adding extra organic matter and some balanced fertilized around its base and then in subsequent years, repeat the division process, because you might have noticed that they tend to develop a "donut" center in the clump which is caused when the clump expands out towards the extremities of the clump.
