We travelled by plane from Amsterdam to Oslo. Then we took a train from Oslo to Trondheim and spent a day in Trondheim. Then by night train from Trondheim to Bodo and with the express boat to Svolvaer. It was a great journey and if you book the tickets in advance, it is not that expensive (especially the night train was quite cheap actually)

Hi Sjurm! Thanks for watching! Im glad to hear your adventure worked out for you. It's true, you can get some really cheap train tickets if you book well in advance. And it's a terrific way to see a lot of Norway while relaxing in your seat. And if the alternative is to rent a car in Oslo and drive north, then taking the train is a great solution for some. Take care! Ivar

I will come by train to Bodö (still have to decide whether I'll take the day or night train), ferry to Moskenes and go on with buses from there. After that go into northern Norway with a 7-day summer pass of Snelandia and once that's done, go back via Sweden from Narvik with another train.

Hi Tobias! Thanks for watching. Since I cannot sleep on a train even if my life depended on it, I would opt for the day train 😅 but even if that was not so I think the view from the train north of Trondheim is worth seeing. Since you go in the summer you may see the view anyway even at night but it might be hard to sleep then. Sounds like a fun trip! I didn’t know about Snelandia. Will check it out. Cheers, Ivar

Hi, love your video! i am going to Lofoten in Feb 2023. May i know, how much is the price from Bodo to Lofoten by ferry, for passengers only (no car)? I am planning to get on ferry on foot, and then rent a car when i arrive in lofoten. Also, could you suggest car rental companies near to the ferry port in Lofoten where i will be arriving? Thanks!
@guidetonorway2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy! Thanks for watching and for your feedback! Passengers without a vehicle travel for free on the ferry between Bodø and Moskenes. There is another ferry, an express passenger-only ferry, that goes between Bodø and Svolvær, and that one costs you several hundred NOK. But if you want to arrive in the west, AND save some money, then Bodø - Moskenes ferry is the one to use. In Moskenes there is a local car rental agency right there on the dock. It's called Rent-a-car moskenes. They are a bit old-fashioned when it comes to bookings so you have to give them a call to book your vehicle. Someone told me you could also write them on Facebook, but not 100% sure about that. Also, you can check out Getaround (car sharing), as they are the cheapest option. I made a video about pros and cons of Getaround. If you use the below link when signing up you will get 150NOK discount on your first rental. no.getaround.com/r/4023274-133? Take care! Ivar

Thanks for watching. If you check out our article on the ferries in the description you will find the webpages where you can book the tickets. For most people exploring Lofoten by car will be the most convenient option. It’s of course more expensive than taking a bus but a lot more efficient so you can do more in a day, and visit more off-the beaten-path places, than if you rely on the public transport.

Hi Rakshith! Thank you for watching! I would check out ENTUR.NO and write in Silsand to Svolvær to see how to get to Lofoten. There are several options. Bus is one, but you can also check out Hurtigruten (cruise ship). Its not so expensive for shorter routes. It leaves from Finnsnes ferry terminal. Hurtigruten takes longer than bus but it's very scenic and you don't have to choose a cabin, making it even cheaper. They have very comfortable seating groups. Take care!

Great video, thank you! I will be watching it again and will also have a look at the map. We are visiting from Australia in May. I did indeed find booking my trip quite confusing, trying to translate ferry timetables and such, and as a result my trip is not as efficent as it could be! We are flying to Bodo, then taking a ferry to Svolvaer. I had the idea to hire a car in Svolvaer and then nicely meander through the islands staying at various places, ending up in Reine, before taking a ferry back to Bodo from Moskenes. The first problem I found out too late was the closest car return is Leknes, so that's ok, I've organised to return it to Leknes the day before we leave and will then get the bus back to Reine for our last night. Now the final problem I have is how to get to the 7am ferry in Moskenes on a Saturday morning with no car from Reine. No bus so early! No later ferries that I can see, so we need to make it. I am just hoping there is a reliable taxi service I can book, I figured I will ask hoteliers when I am there as I can't find anything out online. But if you know something I would love to hear! Anyway, it will all be a fun adventure and I am very excited to visit beautiful Lofoten.
@guidetonorway2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shannon! Great to hear you are going to visit Lofoten this spring! Im sure it will be just great! You will be fine taking a taxi from Reine to Moskenes. It shouldnt be too expensive. But I seem to remember there are two taxi services in this area and one was a lot more expensive than the other. Im now waiting for a reply from the taxi services, but its Easter so Im not expecting an answer until middle of next week. Its usually best to book in advance since there is a limited amount of taxis in the area (meaning 1). I will get back to you with the best number. Happy Easter!
@guidetonorway2 жыл бұрын
They replied quickly. They had three numbers that you could try to call a day or two in advance to book. I would start with the first one and work my way down the list: 1: Reine Taxi: 004791345599 2: Moskenes Taxi: 004790909190 3: Flakstad Taxi: 004795793950 If neither of these would have anything for you, you could also try: Nordland Taxi: 07550

Hi I’ll travel solo and planning this late October. i dont have a drivers license yet hence, I cant drive. If Ill go to lofoten by boat/cruise, how I can go back to bergen pls. Is there an airport there? Is it far from the center?
@guidetonorway2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary! Thanks for watching! Sounds cool with a solo adventure! From Lofoten, you can of course take the Hurtigruten south all the way to Bergen. But it will take several days, and I don't know your age, but the average age on Hurtigruten is probably a lot higher than you? :) And it will also probably be your single largest expense on your trip. Alternatively, you can take the ferry (free) from Moskenes to Bodø and from Bodø take the train to Oslo followed by train to Bergen. If you book early, you can get some pretty cheap prices there. But like we said in the video, it will take over a day of traveling. And two train changes. A faster, and maybe cheaper, solution is to fly from Bodø to Bergen. Im not sure at this moment who is flyting directly from Bergen to Bodø anymore, since the aviation industry is cancelling routes left and right at the moment, but if you check out Flyr, Norwegian and SAS, you will find the best prices. With Flyr you get youth discount until 29years (you have to sign up). With Norwegian you get youth discount until 25 (UNDER26 discount code), and with SAS you also get a youth ticket if you are under 26. Google "sas ungdomsbillett". The airport in Bergen is far from the city. I think the best option is to take the airport express bus to the city. It's like 40 minutes or something on the highway. Hopefully this helps! Wishing you great weather in October! Ivar

That was so awesome video. Can you tell me how to reach from Tromso. I will rent a car and will be there in Tromso from 8 November to 13 November with my family. Is it douable?
@guidetonorway2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! It's definitely possible to drive from Tromsø to Lofoten, even in November. It might already be snowy in several sections though, so add 20-30% to the total driving time that google maps suggests. Meaning it will take you around 8 hours of driving one way to reach the eastern Lofoten. Make it twelve to reach the western part. If I were you, I would not do it. Simply because you don't have enough time. You only have 4 full days in Tromsø. Don't spend them driving. There is a lot of cool activities you can do in and around Tromsø. Most people dont even rent a car, but do activities from the city center every day. Good luck on your trip! Let me know how it went! Ivar

@@waqasmurad3178 You don't need to take any ferries in the winter since the Gryllefjord - Andenes ferry only runs in the summer. @guidetonorway Жыл бұрын
Hi Hal! Thanks for watching. I never said it costed $200 for the Bodø Moskenes ferry. I said you will save almost $200 by not taking it back and forth. When I made this video the price was also higher than today. Over the next four years since publishing the video the government in Norway is decreasing the ferry price by 50%! Which is great for us living up here on islands! This means it’s going to get even cheaper over the next three years. But it’s still over $70 one way. Doesn’t matter how many passengers you are. Pedestrians go for free. $50 for one car sounds very cheap. It was 754NOK/$75ish three days ago when a took the ferry. And it’s several hundreds of dollars one way if you have a long vehicle. I hope to publish a video on this ferry alone soon. There is a way to take the ferry for free but I will reveal it in the next video 😊
