Omg!! Im 2 years post stroke. I was in inpatient therapy when i learned to always support my affected side shoulder. When i graduated to outpatient therapy, i tore my rotator cuff. the pain from that was unreal. I had surgery, and recovery was painful and frustrating. My surgeon told me that since it was my affected side, it would take an entire year to recover. That it did an entire year. Im glad to say i have full range of motion, and my affected side is moving close to normal. I hope who is going through shoulder issues on their affected side. Please stay patient and don't give up. Thank you for this video. I wish i had seen it earlier.

Thank you for explaining this. My son suffered a GSW 9 months ago that shattered the humerus (one of the many injuries sustained). Your videos are so helpful in knowing how to help his recovery progress. He continues to have ulnar and radial nerve damage so we are learning lots of new ways to do things.

Great video. Thank you for mentioning not to use the traditional shoulder slings. Frequently these are given to patients because an office has them in stock because they are cheaper.

Non-elastic taping is much better for shoulder subluxation. Apart from adhesive allergies, a lot of older patients with thin skin can’t hv k tape applied. Non elastic tape can hv a base support like an underwrap which is nicer for all ages of patients.

From MY experience 23+ years after the Stroke. I have had nurses grab my arm and I say subluxation. They go, huh? I try just dislocated then I get yelled at and they argue with me . I have 2.5 subluxation of the left shoulder. Thy grab my arm and pull it up and down it hurts. I’m told unless they hear it from a doctor, thy “I have NO reason to lie. it.

Great info, Elsye!! Can you please make a video how we can turn a stroke survivor from supine to prone position in a bed? Because of the limited movement of the shoulder, many stroke survivors can't turn to prone position in a bed. That would be very helpful! Thank you

Hi, I love your content! Do you think it is possible to "fix" sublexation through excersize/stretches? My old OT said there is no "fix" and I'd have to wear an uncomfortable shoulder brace for the rest of my life..... this imakes me sad:(

I had my stroke almost a year ago. I am home now but I still can't walk or use my bedside commode. So My wife who is my full-time Care taker has to change me couple times a day. And part of It is me rolling on my side while she cleans me up. I'm worried now that me on my side during her changing me is making my shoulder subluxation worse😢

My (bedridden) grandmother, who is 85 year old have this problem in right arm. She can't speak, so we don't know she have pain or not, she is paralyzed in that area. What should we do?
@PostStrokeOrg Жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. I know that must be difficult for her and your family. I'd recommend having a physician or therapist assess her in person. She will likely need someone to be hands on with her to more effectively evaluate what's going on!
@shubhamvyas9459 Жыл бұрын
@@PostStrokeOrg Thanks for reply mam, we checked her with orthopaedic. He said her bone is not dislocated but her muscles don't have strength, hence her shoulder just loses out when she sits, they recommended "Arm Sling".

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with shoulder pain. Have you been able to see a doctor or therapist for treatment?
@PostStrokeOrg2 жыл бұрын
E stim or electrical stimulation can be used by placing pads around the shoulder that send electrical currents through the skin and muscles. I don’t have a video on this but you may find this video from Saebo helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3Wagmyhi9t4o6s Always talk with a doctor before trying because it’s not safe for everyone to use!
