I live on Saint Croix US Virgin and I live alone and you have been an inspiration for me because I have been very dark places mentally and somehow you seem to help me pull out of the darkness. I find great motivation and your KZbin channel helps me achieve some semblance of normalcy. I suffer a great fatigue and So it is hard but your channel helps me get motivated. We have no services here so your KZbin channel is so helpful I get therapy three times a week but it’s not as helpful as your KZbin channel sometimes I feel the people are overworked and just going through a routine

My husband recently had a left-brain stroke and has no function in his right arm and leg in addition to no speech. Spending 7 weeks in the hospital with complications, he had no therapy and lost critical recovery time. He was in acute rehab for 19 days and started making some progress with one hour each of PT, OT, and SLP 6 days a week. He is now in short-term rehab and not receiving enough PT, OT, and SLP on a consistent basis and I fear that he is going to lose ground on his gains. I found this video very helpful and will try to work with him when visiting him are the rehab. Thank you for sharing this video. These techniques are used at Spaulding Rehab in Boston as I saw during family training. I can use this video with my husband to help him.

Thank you. . My wife is right side deficit due to her recent stroke. I found these informative and will help my wife do them. Can you also provide therapy that helps people to get back long term and permanent use of their hands, feet, speech.
@PostStrokeOrg
@PostStrokeOrg 3 жыл бұрын
@soxmate, I hope both you and you're wife are doing well. I know it's a very difficult thing for everyone involved (survivor, family, friends) to go through. I'm really happy that you're finding my videos helpful! Unfortunately, there's no magic exercise, activity, modality, or medication that is a "permanent" fix. It takes a lot of work day in and out, consistently, to make progress. But you can help your wife increase neuroplastic brain changes by actively and repetitively helping her exercise and do daily activities. Talk with her physician if you can, too, about recommendations for her specific situation. Please take care!

@kikiliz44 So a general rule of thumb is the more repetitions and consistency of an exercise or workout the better to create neuroplastic (brain) changes. However, you'll need to talk with your doctor or therapist to know what's most appropriate for your specific situation.

THANK YOU!! I’m bed ridden and have been for years due to a spinal cord disease and I do as much as I can in bed as possible. I do exercise almost everyday when I can and have always wondered if my bones are getting any good strength from doing things like lifting my tush and holding that weight with my legs and or leg. My nurse didn’t think it’s real “weight bearing” because some of my body is on the bed but these exercises youv just done are about the same thing but better because Iv been coming up with things on my own. I do my best to match you even if my position may be a bit different. So my main question is are my bones getting strength enough to build bone mass even if it’s not all my body weight that’s being lifted. I also was wondering if you know a back (upper and lower) strengthening exercise I can do in bed?? God bless you honey🙏🏻. You’ve helped more than you can possibly know🥰

@PostStrokeOrg
@PostStrokeOrg 3 жыл бұрын
@frankwilberforce, Glad to hear it! Weight-bearing can actually sometimes help with sensations of heaviness. It helps to improve proprioceptive input from our joints, muscles, and tendons to our brains. It may be helpful to consistently do some of those weight-bearing exercises and see if you notice any improvement!

@michellescott, I don't think there are any standing exercises in this video, but you don't need a massage table! You can sit on a couch or bed. If you have a bed with a firmer mattress that may be better to give you a little more support. If you have a massage table, you can definitely use it, just lower it so that your feet can touch the floor during the exercises 🙂

My dream is to get back on the golf course and play tennis again. I am 72. Please guide and help. @anurahbhatnagar, It sounds like you have made some amazing progress in your recovery! I'm really glad my videos have been helpful to you. Thank you for your question, but it's a hard one for me to guide you on. Knee hyperextension can happen for a variety of reasons after a stroke including spasticity, muscle weakness, proprioceptive issues (how our body tells where are muscles/joints are in space), and trouble with ankle movement. Generally though, some things that may help are strengthening leg and glute muscles, a daily stretching routine for hips and legs if you have spasticity, and/or certain braces for either ankles (like an AFO) or certain braces for the knee. If you can, talk with a doctor or therapist for more specific recommendations.

Madam I am also a physiotherapist, one of my client is a RTA patient, she had multiple fracture in ribs and thoracic vertebrae, whenever I start my treatment plan in little vigorously, then she complains pain in ribs and back, so how can I treat her to improve muscle strength?

@sanjoydas, Thanks for commenting! So my general advice would be start with what she is capable of tolerating, even if it is against gravity ROM without other resistance (weights, bands, etc). We have to meet our clients where they are :)

@vilmajohnson, Repetition of exercises and activities is one of the best things you can do to create those positive brain changes (via neuroplasticity). Keep working at it!! ❤️

Maybe l’ll get my care worker to keep my hand flat

@stevekierstead, That's definitely an option. I generally recommend flat hand splints to help with keeping the hand flat during exercises. Something like this: amzn.to/3NFX1tv If you are working with a therapist or doctor, they will be able to make more specific recommendations 😊

I love your videos. I help take care of a senior lady that had a stroke 3 years ago and couldn’t continue her P A from a service coming to her house. I recently started helping her by watching your channel. Question…, if it’s been Swahili since she has had any therapy, is it going to matter if I keep trying to help her with these exercises?
