Brands: Rain-X, Invisible Glass, Gtechniq, Aquapel, GYEON, Adams, CERAKOTE, Chemical Guys, 3D, Debaishi. Windshield water repellents tested for efficiency at dissipating water right after application, and then after exposure to windshield washer fluid and several other common cleaners. The window treatments were also compared for removing insect splatter from glass panels.
I always buy all of the products tested to ensure an unbiased review. So, thank you for supporting the channel.

Spot on! I'm a mobile technician in the South and I drive a lot, so I've real-world tested just about every hydrophobic product out there. My personal regimen is Aquapel every 6 months, and keep a bottle of RainX in the back seat. The only issue I have with Aquapel is that if you use your windshield wipers (bugs, excessively heavy rain that overwhelms the product), it actually scratches the Aquapel layer, installing fine linear scratches in the path of the wiper blades over time, which can lead to borderline crippling hazing and glare in some rain conditions. Because Aquapel is a silica-based product that chemically crosslinks to the glass, it has to be mechanically removed before recoating. Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and a DA polisher works well for me. In contrast, RainX is a silicone solution emulsified into a wax with an alcohol-based emulsifier. It simply sits on the surface of the glass, and is highly susceptible to heat and mechanical removal (windshield wipers). But it's also dirt cheap and available almost anywhere in North America, and very easy to apply. Sorry for the text wall! I wanted to add some real-world insight that doesn't translate well into laboratory testing. :)

@@davidr.8999 NuFinish does alright, but nothing remarkable. If you use it, give it at least two days in the garage to cure before taking it out in the sun or letting it get wet, and reapply in about a month for best effect. RainX does not play nicely overtop of it, however. It hazed like crazy for me when I tried this combination. I suspect that the alcohol content in RainX interacts with the petroleum-based solvent in NuFinish, but this is only speculation. I've only ever tried the liquid NuFinish product in the upright bottle, not the paste in the tin. I suspect they're more or less the same thing, just different application methods to suit different target demographics.

Headlight restore kits are kind of like box dinners or ready-made, you can do it that way and sometimes it works, or you can go back get the spin polish with the plastic polish and do it through analog ways and means. I use a buffer and polish them clear before they get too bad. There is always replacement lamps that are generally affordable and worth it because they are a safety item. Also if you don't have to remove the bumper and the whole front end of the car just to replace the lamps. Results vary.

Another fantastic comparison. Been using Rain-X religiously since the 1980s. First thing i do when I buy a new car is apply it, and reapply maybe once a year. One time I forgot to on a new Explorer. Got caught in a heavy rainstorm on a roadtrip and couldn't see a thing. Had to stop at a Walmart to pick some up. Applied it under cover at the nearest gas station and all was well. You don't even have to use the wipers most of the time - the water just beads up and rolls or flies off. The original and still one of the best. Can't beat it for the price.

I too have used Rain-X on every car I own since I first discovered it ages ago. I love the stuff, it makes a huge difference in the rain and general cleanliness of the glass. However, I use it on all my exterior glass, even the mirrors. Rain-X makes it easier to keep the glass clean. Also, if you live where it snows a lot or you frost/frozen water on the glass, it makes it much easier to remove.

@@viktorakhmedov3442 About 20 years ago a guy I knew from the 'Nam (82nd Airborne, as a matter of fact) was doing a HALO over I-95 in Florida, and if it wasn't for the Rain-X (but it was called Glass Unelko back then but we can't say that anymore or someone might get triggered) on his goggles, the water vapor in one of the thunderclouds he dropped through would have blinded him and he'd have never seen that wiper blade headed straight for his skull at about Mach 2 or so, and not been able to dodge it just in the nick of time. Thanks to the Rain-X on his Super-8 helmet cam lens, he was able to prove it or we'd never have believed it. Rain-X saves lives, brother.

Nice job! I've been a user of Rain-X since around '85. I have found the best application technique for great long lasting results is slightly different that the one you did. 1st, I clean the glass much like you did. Then I apply product directly to the glass using a mixture of swirls, back and forth and up and down strokes. I proceed all the way around the car, so by the time I get back to where I started, that 1st piece is thoroughly dry. Then I apply a 2nd coat the exact same way. Next I spray a very scant amount of fine mist water to the glass and rub firmly with a dry towel. Lastly I polish the dry glass with a dry microfiber cloth until it's extremely slippery. DONE! Lasts easily 6 months, but you can get more like a year out of it if you also use the Rain-X windshield washer in the car. Thanks Todd, looking forward to your next report.

I recently resealed my windows and tried something new. At the beginning of the video you can see the product "SOFT99 Glaco Glass Compound Roll On" which is a kind of simple glass polish, I cleaned the glass and then used SOFT99 to really remove all the impurities, then cleaned it again and then applied the Rain Repellent. In any case, I'm curious to see whether this method turns out to be better. So far I've driven once in light rain and the result was very good, the windows started to get clean over 60km/h. Info on the side: I used something other than Rain-X, it's from LICARGO, it got good reviews in many tests and I wanted to try it out myself, I think it's only available in Germany, and of course I bought it a few days before this video came out, i also have RainX at home, which I'm happy with :)

I have always sworn by Rain X, I often find on the motorway that I have better visibility letting the water bead up instead of using my wipers. In case anyone is interested in how I make it last for months and months: 1. Clean the window with a wet synthetic chamois, and dry it with a microfibre towel. 2. Use RainX window cleaner to clean the window again (spray on the window and wipe clean with a microfibre towel). 3. apply RainX repellant with a microfibre towel. 4. buff the repellant off with a dry microfibre towel 5. repeat steps 3 and 4 (second coat). 6. top up your windscreen fluid with the RainX fluid (following the diluting instructions on the bottle).

Started using Rain-X 30+ years ago when I started driving, always loved being able to go drive at speed in a good rainstorm and not need wipers. These days I still do Rain-X, but without the manual application. Rain-X washer fluid and Rain-X wipers, great combination that keeps the repellency going. If it seems to wear off a bit, give the glass a super good cleaning, then use sprayer and wipers for ~10 second several times. All done.

What many people forget is that wiper blades get loose at the pivot point on the cowl, and fail to operate when you really need them to. Second is that the edge of most wiper blades will eventually separate from the body of the blade, which can lead to trenches being scratched in the windshield by the metal rubber blade holders. I learned this the hard way decades ago. It is really helpful to keep the chemical of your choice in the glove box or console of your vehicle, along with the scrubbing-type towels you will need to clean the windshield and then dry ones to dry it off. I haven’t tried all of these, but Rain-X has been my choice for years; however, I would use any of the ones he tested if I had windshield wiper failure of any kind. The use of a clay bar compound, as he suggested in the beginning, will give the cleanest glass and the longest lasting results. This man is a national treasure, and millions of us rely on him to test the products we use every day. Thanks for the testing you do, and try to make it easier for us to purchase your brand of coffee.

In my area is more about removing the bugs than worrying about the rain. Thank you for this great test

I had applied Rain-X to the inside of the window on my old car. When the mirror fell off, I cleaned the area and applied more Rain-X. I bought some mirror glue, then stuck up the mirror holder. It would not say stuck. The people at Rain-X said it was impossible to remove and would have to be abraided off. I scraped the area with sand paper and the holder stuck just fine. Glad it was an old car.

Why would you apply Rain-X to the INSIDE of your window to begin with?

Bad to put on inside glass. It says not too as well. You will be sorry. It hazes and takes for to get off.

I would like to add a +1 to this. Every time I get a notification that Todd has another review up, I try to imagine what it could possibly be, and what the metrics are. My imagination is just not that fecund, I guess, so I rely on others. And the only thing more impressive than his tests is the fact that he replies to everyone.
