140 km on new WF , 07 Forester....so far amazing, passed a pickup with a long trailer through slush, and his spray and Subie never spun a tire. Pure Traction.

They seem to work good for me also. Studded?

I've uses studded tires for about 15 years on various 4x4 and all wheel drive vehicles. The advantages are on ice, they will stop better on ice than a non studded tire and they will last longer usually than studless tires that have a very soft compound (like the Blizzak, etc). They don't really affect snow traction so much, unless its snow that melted and re-froze. The disadvantages are that they are noisy especially at lower speeds and if you have to stop fast on dry roads they can take longer to stop. If you are in an area with frequent icing conditions they are worth having.

That is for sure. I loved them. In my truck with the diesel motor i don’t notice the noise at all.

The thing with these tires, as they wear the sipping seems to disappear... Like at 30% wear, they just are no longer siped. Quality concern? As sipping is the most important part of a solid winter tire

a summer tire at 2/32nd is considered bare min and that you wouldn't want to drive on, you can hydro plane at that thickness. Now imagine snow/ice inch's thick, You say the sipping wears quickly. Perhaps you didn't know the bare min for a winter tire to be effective is 6/32nd and under 3 years old. 6/32nds is like a 2/32nd summer tire. its okay. but bare min . the age is when the rubber stops off gassing and becomes hard. not all tires made the same but most of the time by 3rd year mark winter tires are extremely hard and no effective. so yes the it seems to wear quickly but if you change what you think the tire should be doing and is at wear wise then its wearing normally. all winter tires should be replaced at 6/32nd. winterforce start at 12/32nd and the sipping only goes down to 6/32nd.

PS I used General Grabber SUV Winter studded tires on both Jeeps, our '07 Grand Cherokee Hemi and my son's 17 Wrangler Sport. With the studded snows the Jeeps are un stoppable in snow. I started using studded snows about 15 years ago on our '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, first set was the Nokian Hakka SUVs, they were great, but got too expensive so I switched to the Generals, which were as good at a better by far price.

They were excellent. I sold them to another local guy and he ran them a year or more i think too. I really liked those tires.

+Chuck Norris as far as i can see no. As far as the government is concerned they wear down the roads but otherwise i have yet to find any. Some people complain of noise of them. It depends what surface you are on. I find a slight humming if you listen close when you are on very hard packed snow. Dry pavement isn’t bad at all i hear them slightly. I find this the only con that there could be. It had 0 effect on me. I would say 1 out of 10 the noise level from them would be half to 1. Let me know if you have any other questions. More traction equals more safety for me so that is why i have studs. Actually one other thing i have heard is watch behind you when stopping. You have the stopping power with studs but the guy behind you may not be able to stop as quick as you if he does not have studs.

Studs are MUCH louder and ride and handle worse. They also decrease stopping distances when the road is dry, and they don't do a lot in just snow. HOWEVER, they are absolutely unbeatable on ice and no studless tire can even come close to the ice traction of studs, especially when it comes to emergency braking.
@Schneids156 жыл бұрын
That is for sure. I agree with everything but when it comes down to the safety part the noise is definitely worth while. Although i do not notice it. The dry stopping distance i agree is true but very minimal. I find when it is real cold -20+ the studs help in the snow as it gets real crunchy and they really bite.
