Ordered the Rode and Lav mic using your link ;) I figured it’s an easy product to use for a non tech person like me. Don’t let me down on this one ☝️

Will the rode work well with an iphone and for doing Facebook live videos with 2 or more people?
@AmandaHorvath
@AmandaHorvath 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no because you need to be able to HEAR the other people (if they are conferenced in to the live). If you're in the same location then yes! For interviews where you bring them on remotely - just use AirPods 🙌

I see you might be biased towards the Rode, my mics don't sound like that and I own both. The Sennheiser doesn't sound tinny at all, it has a better and warmer sound, that might be why everyone uses them at the BBC. Also the Rode do very badly when surrounded by wi-fi signals or phone signals, and those high pitch nosies are very difficult to remove if you don't use Audition. Whereas the Sennheiser scans the signals around choosing the most convenient one avoiding interferences. The Rode are convenient but not the most reliable tool in most cases.

I came from an audio background, so I get this comparison. But you are comparing apples to oranges using different lav mics. The difference in sound can easily be the sensitivity and characteristics of each mic, which will determine how much of the background noise gets in the video too. Sensitive mics pickup more. In fact, for loud environments, it's best to use a dynamic (if you can find one) mic vs condenser. And positioning the mic closer to the mouth helps TREMENDOUSLY. Reporters in the field often use handheld mics for these very reasons. In this video, hiding the mic in your hair, behind your ear or on your shoulder strap MIGHT have gotten better results. Keeping a dynamic handeld in the kit is also never a bad idea. But it's all trial and error, which is why I appreciate your doing this video!
@AmandaHorvath
@AmandaHorvath 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I totally get the handheld mic argument! I used to do that whenever I was shooting conference video interviews in a loud convention center. The result is impressive! This was more so me just curious cause I've heard a lot of people say "I don't even need the sennheiser anymore" and I wanted to see how true that was. In short, I still love my sennheisers but the rode Wireless go II is def a more affordable alternative. Thanks for commenting!

Well done! I agree, for the untrained ear, the RODE GOII does an awesome job for the price. The audio edits in post-production are certainly taking it to another level! Your video on how to remove background noise in Premiere is super simple to follow the steps to produce a great sound!

Did you apply some kind of background noise cancellation or is KZbin just being weird? A lot of the audio sounds robotic, like when you're too aggressive on the BNC. Edit: nevermind, I got to that part of your video now.

I feel like the sibilance on the Rode's is super harsh especially in the outside clip (could be the noise removal though), can really hear the more robust sound on the sennheiser in the controlled environment too. Definitely feels more professsional but for half the price the rode is sick and you could probably EQ it to get close enough and like 1% of people will notice the difference. Great video!

It kind of seems like the Sennheiser picks up more of the higher treble frequencies? I do think higher frequencies often do have more unwanted (or also "robust", depending how you feel about the recording, what is captured) sound. -I find with many musical recordings, often getting rid of unwanted noise or squeaks involves some editing out of higher frequencies. But those same frequencies can also make many recordings sound more lively.

Hi, in the first test it seems like the rode with mic had more treble, but lower volume. Second test seems like the G4 has more treble, but they were not filmed at the exact same time, so not an exact comparison. I just bought the rode, so I’m hoping it’s the best. Thank you for making this great video to help me decide.

If you want less background noise try a cardioid pickup lapel mic but it will be horrible for windy conditions.

It would be useful to measure the noise floor of the two wireless systems. Also you should use the same lav mic on each system when comparing. You mention "the Rode mic" and "the Sennheiser mic" .... what were they? For instance the G4 comes with either the ME2-II a very average mic, or the excellent MKE-2.
@dingdong5601
@dingdong5601 2 жыл бұрын
If I was a betting man I'd say it was the ME2. Unless the 500 series combo is selling for $600 somewhere.

I would have a look at the polar pattern of the the different mics. The Sennheiser are usually omni directional which means you get a spherical pickup pattern. The Rhode may be cardioid and therefore a tighter pattern and not picking up background noise as much, I need to look at the specs. I would use a multiband compressor on the Rhode to get the sound I want, but from the sound of it a small amount of parametric EQ and the Rhode would sound pretty darn great for the price. I say for run of the mill use save your $300 for sure.
@AmandaHorvath
@AmandaHorvath 3 жыл бұрын
Great comment! Such a great point about the pickup pattern. I'd have to look into that, I'm now curious 🧐 As for the sound editing tips - couldn't agree more. The part where I'm seated and talking, I applied all my typical sound edits (beyond just background removal) to see how that compared too. I did add a compressor + EQ to that mix when doing it.

@@AmandaHorvath I often drop the audio out into other software life Adobe Audition, Reaper or Audacity depending what I want to do with it and drop it back. That way I can get the use of more processing like multi-band compression.

Rode, yes, cheap. Reliability though, I go with the Sennheiser G3, all day. You won't have to do post clean up. Analog, longer range, cleaner audio. Will not do digital with audio. Try a comp with them

If you record any kind of music I bet the Rode will walk away from the Sennheiser. Try recording a high school band with the Sennheiser and you'll see what I mean. Compression and Expanding noises that are very distracting. Works ok with voice only.

Ok this really confused me! I’m just another shmuck growing a KZbin channel and want to video with a tripod and stand away a few yards so obviously I need a wireless mic. After watching your previous video of mics from $100-$200 I read some of the comments and you told someone forget all those mics because since that video you have fallen head over heals with this $350 microphone?? So I click the link you shared and started to watch your review comparing it to a $600 microphone! Then!!! you bring up your computer and editing screen and all this jargon talking about I don’t know what. It looked like watching the New York stock exchange ticker lol. So I trailed off. Besides your pretty face was no longer in the shot 😂 As aforementioned I’m just another shmuck with an iPhone uploading videos to my slow growing KZbin channel. I want to succeed at so was prepared to spend a little on some equipment to make it of higher quality to the viewer but not all the way to the sky $$$. I bought the wired microphone from a much earlier video of yours that I’ve never used because you can’t stand away any further than the built in iPhone mic picks up just fine. So I’m gonna go back to your video of old and choose one of the $100-$200 mics that you’ve kicked to the curb for shmucks like me that just want to stand a few more yards away from the built in microphone on my iPhone 13pro. If you read this long comment props to you 😂 😎
