This really does convey "best wishes" really well. It's that hopeful tone but somewhat sad, like a goodbye

That's something I've noticed with a lot of music I've listened to. Used to throw me off that folks thought the music I listened to was sad, when I just thought it was beautiful. I think this kind of music offers some introspection for whoever listens to it.

This is such a beautiful piece, but does anyone else notice the geek merch behind him? This is a man of culture.

Yeah go check out his other videos. He also does a Twitch stream. Doug is a master marimbist + game nerd, and it.is.awesome. who else could do a percussion ensemble performance of Mass Effect music?

The piece really has a great sense of building energy. I really like how the melody is so versatile to the changes in expression throughout. It really gives it that sense of coherence. Also, the piece really "fits" the instrument. That type of writing only shines through on a good performance but that's not an issue at all here. Great work, Doug!

Yeah I'm about to get ahold of the sheet music for this, too. About 7-8 weeks till Mode 5 arrives, and I'm SO PUMPED to start learning to play gorgeous things like this.

Ah! I should add that to the video description. I'm using 3 Vic Firth m114s on the top, and a m113 for the bass!
