Fab video! Really admire your passion for books, I used to read way more than I do now. I'm currently reading my friend Fio Gede Parma's "The Witch Belongs to the World" which is beautifully poetic as I knew it would be. Also re-reading some Aidan Wachter. Big fan of Jason Miller myself, too, his books and courses are great.

I'm late, but this just popped up on my feed.❤ I've not read any of the books, but have been drawn to the Appalachian folk magic books. I'm in the US and my ancestors were from Ireland, Scotland and Norway, so I bet they would resonate with me. I tend to look for books that are NOT Wicca based. IMO, Wicca is problematic because there's so much Catholic influence. There's also a feeling of the importance of women being a little lost. Witchcraft throughout history was a female practice. Men sought glory in war and public works. Witches worked more humbly. Our ancestors, if your of Norse or Germanic decent, would not have approved of men doing humble quiet works. The way to Valhalla for them was death in battle. This speaks to the importance men placed on having glory. Women were also the ones largely punished once Christians took hold for Witchery. They had to become even more humble and secretive in order to survive. "Spells" were really just wisdom passed down from Grandma to mom to daughter. They couldn't write it down, so they learned spells and rituals. Their "secret language". Catholicism brought the idea of the "devil" to our ancestors. The idea of ultimate evil and good. Before this, our ancestors understood the gods and Goddesses to be neither good nor bad, more human like in their ability to be fluid. IMO, Lilith, her story, is the biggest victim of this. Hekate as well. They were not the "evil" in their stories. Anyway, I wrote you a small novel to read 😂 I can certainly understand the one author's need to separate Wicca ( a religion created in the early 1970s by men) from the craft. I am also forever connected to Jesus. He resonated with me from the start. His life was incredible. It's through my understanding of his life that I found the courage to get in touch with the Goddesses that also feed my soul. My favorite book right now is Witchcraft Therapy Banishing the Bullsh*t. It's sassy, smart and has great advice.

New world witchery - there was a podcast that Cory used do and I think he was working on the book for years. The podcast was always very interesting, delving into folktales and different magic practices. I don’t know if it still exists, but I would recommend

What a wonderfully tasty video. Thank you for sharing some of your reads from last year. Congrats on 40 non-fiction! That's amazing! I seem some familiar titles and have walked away with some more for my wish list. Troy books do the BEST hardcovers! I have The Devils Dozen with copper gilding. Cost me an arm and a leg, but it's one of the prettiest things I own! 😄 Here's to another year filled with awesome witchy books! 📚 xox

Right at the beginning you got me interested in Cyndi Brannan’s books and she’s gone straight on my reading list. You also mention her socials - Insta and KZbin. But I can’t find her on either. Would you mind sharing how to find her? My fav books from 2023: Phyllis Curott - Spells for living well: I just love her so much I bought this despite not ‘needing’ another spell book. Turns out I DID need this! Glastonbury Maker of Myths by Frances Howard-Gordon: Anyone visiting Glastonbury needs to buy this as a trusty companion through all the layers of myths, legends and believes connected to the various places in and around Glastonbury. Non-witchy books: Bully-Proof Kids - by Stella O’Malley: Anyone who works with kids, has kids, knows kids or has ever been a child (which means everyone) should read this. Consider it part of shadow work. Non-violent communication by Marshall Rosenberg: Gave me so many answers to so many questions. Life-transforming.

took me close to 3 months to finish. The first 3 chapters hit a little too close to home. The rest of the book and exercises didn't resonate with me. I give it 3/5.@EmilysTarotandMagick

@@EmilysTarotandMagick I did like the crystals it gave to work with each exercise. Some of the lore was interesting. I do believe that since I haven't had some of the life experiences the authress had some of the chapters didn't resonate with me.

4:40 Dr. Brannen's background is in applied social psychology and education. She is not credentialed anywhere online as a Jungian analyst. It's very possible that she's received continued training to support her personal and professional practice, but this is an important distinction to clarify.

Ahhh okay thank you for sharing. Do you have resources to share? I found some saying they were a Jungian analyst but def important to know if this is potentially false. 🙏

Do a google search and her academic background comes right up. Her Keeping Her Keys website's Ethics page, her LinkedIn profile, and other congruent sources for academic professionals. Shouldn't be hard to corroborate. She is a PhD but being a Jungian analyst is a separate distinction. If she was one, it would be easy to check and would be mentioned in her books. Whoever told you that was simply mistaken. It happens.@@EmilysTarotandMagick

I live in the United States but I have a witchcraft book on herbs from the UK and every single plant that grows there grows where I live at so I might get that book on how to forage plants the reason I ain't going to try to do it with books from where I live at is because all the books of trying to find on the subject are textbooks and there hard for me to understand

I have added so many books to my list after watching this! Also would love to hear your thought on working with Jesus and Abrahamic /Christian archetypes as a witch. I have a very similar thing with Mary to what it sounds like you have with Jesus (which is interesting because my Christian path was not Marian focused, but my ancestry is)
