Best Wooden Humidors: Attractive, Aromatic Presentation For Your Cigars
Rather than a top-ten type guide, we'll cover the characteristics to seek in a wood humidor.
The first thing you need in a humidor is a good airtight seal. Wooden options will never be 100 percent airtight, since wood is a porous material. However there is a certain level of humidity exchange that is admissible.
In another video, we tested a $20-30 humidor. We easily smashed through the bottom, which was cardboard with a very thin wooden veneer. Something like this is essentially a bucket with holes in with respect to moisture exchange.
Further, you'll need to avoid glass windows on wooden humidors; they're notorious for poor seals around the edges of the glass.
For an inexpensive yet high-quality wood humidor, Quality Importers make the Old World & Old Glory. Paul has owned the Old Glory for 2 years and it has held up very well.
In the luxury range, Davidoff's The Statesman Ambassador Union Jack at around $2000 has impressed us so far. Further up in that range are Elie Bleu's $5000-$10,000 options.
At that range, you buy a humidor more as a piece of functional artwork than as a practical item, but even at the entry level, wooden humidors are part decorative item.
Further, Spanish cedar linings provide additional benefits for your cigars. The scent of such an interior also adds to the overall cigar experience. Even better, Spanish cedar naturally repels pest insects that can infest your cigar collection.
Finally, since wood retains moisture, if the interior humidity drops, the wood itself can release moisture to mitigate this.
Of course, for this to happen, the wood must be properly seasoned. We recommend Boveda packs for their ease and reliability; see the video linked above for our guide.
In order to monitor your collection, we find that calibratable smart and digital hygrometers are the best solution, calibrated each 6 months. Calibratable is the key word here; that is an absolute must!
Ultimately, a wooden humidor poses a tradeoff. You put in more maintenance work, but the result is beautifully decorative and appealing storage and display.

As long as a glass top humidor is sealed correctly where the glass edge meets the wood they work just as good as a completely wood humidor. I have a very well made, partial glass top humidor that holds my desired RH extremely well with Boveda packs. Love your videos guys 👍🏻

Thanks for the kind words! Glad to hear that you've had positive experiences with glass top humidors! We generally avoid recommending them, though, because unless they're great quality, people can have issues. We haven't yet found a really good one that we're comfortable in recommending.

I've just picked up two of the Davidoff Winston Churchill Ambassador collection humidors with the intention of keeping one at 69RH and the other at 65RH through use of the Boveda packs. I'm a huge fan of Padron Family Reserve cigars... which RH level would you gents recommend I keep those particular cigars in? (I'd say they would be in the humidor at a maximum 12-18 months)

Currently seasoning both humidors, another question is did you find them to need less seasoning with the Gabon okoume wood interior? Open to comments from other viewers as well on the earlier question around preferred humidity for the various Padron series.

Hello! I've not used personally, but have some friends who have them. They also report good performance. With my set-up I just don't think it would be optimal for me. Thanks for the intel! Cheers - Paul
