The best way to use Battery 4 in Ableton Live, showing the name of the samples in the Midi Editor.

This is so great solution to use Battery 4 in Live. Many thanks.

This mean we have 4 instances of battery one for each drum shot, it seems a bit wasteful of computer resources.

It was the only way I could find to allow Ableton to name the instances of the cells in Battery inside the piano roll. Maybe Ableton will overcome this in a future update ;)

You can also create a seperate midi track with an empty drumrack on it and have the battery track receive the midi from it. You don't have nice colors but works perfect and with only one instance.
@BrassicaMusic4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, I've never considered this way! I'm also adding a 'Pitch' midi plugin in front of each Battery instance, so I can cycle through Kicks, Snares, etc that I have laid out in Battery then saving that Drum Rack as a giant drum playground :)

I found very useful the mapping you are doing in drumrack to battery 4, that allows me to use my external midi pad which was always starting on F#4
@OntheHookGames5 жыл бұрын
Almost got it. The method you suggest here is not optimal, because it requires 4 separate instances of Battery running. You can actually do this with only one instance of Battery running, saving CPU.

Hi, Triple. Did you find a way to rename individual samples (notes) in Ableton`s piano roll using only one instance of Battery? Let us know if you did, that would be much appreciated by us all! Cheers.

@@musicproductionmadeeasy5027 You have to drop Battery into Drum Rack, then open up the I/O and change the notes it receives to "All". Then you can make chains for every useable note and rename them, as well as change the colors so they're distinguishable with Push. The only cons are that you can't map samples to different notes through Drum Rack (only in Battery) and you can't audition the Drum Rack cells with the mouse for some reason (though it works just fine with MIDI, musical typing, Push, etc.)
@tripplethrendo4 жыл бұрын
@@JT-xg9ep is there a video that shows how to do this?
I'm fairly new to this process but this work style seems so tedious! I wish you could insert Batteries Kits which would be so much simpler.. Maybe there's a way out there I'm just unaware of.. If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated!

You can do this with one instance of battery for all individual drum hits. On the in/out. Select the top selection. I can’t remember but I think it’s ‘allow all’. This will route all perfectly

Thnks for this tip.. However I do wonder if there are any Drum Racks available online where this has been done for the entire Battery 4 Library. This can be a tedious process especcialy when we have 16 or 32 percussional sounds or maybe entire kit which we would like to run through a m4l step sequencer for creating percussional textures.

I know its been years but did you find a solution for this? Like an "auto name" feature or something?
@tjerja8 ай бұрын

Too much on the CPU id say. Ableton needs to create a way to color the midi notes in the piano roll one day. Shit. You can color clips and tracks.
@musicproductionmadeeasy50273 жыл бұрын
This is a work around to force Ableton to show the instruments/samples names on the piano roll. As per the cpu, Ableton is already cpu inefficient on its own. I dont think they will ever sort this out.

I've gotten this to work, which is awesome, however one thing I've noticed is there is still multiple instances of Battery that load essentially. Each chain, although is a chain, when I click to load it (little wrench button) it's a separate instance of that kit as a different chain. So, my snare chain loads battery, but then when I click my kick chain, it also loads a new window of battery. If I add a new sample within battery for the kick chain, it doesn't auto populate that cell in the snare chain's instance of battery. Even if I save the kit both in Battery and Ableton, I have to manually load that same kit with each chain. I'm not sure if that is productive or if I am doing something wrong. Any thoughts? My goal would be to load the standalone of battery without Ableton, build the drum kit I want. Save that kit, then load it into Ableton, however if while in Ableton or even back in battery standalone, if I wish to make a change to that kit, I have to manually load it again for each chain. I was hoping there was an auto update feature I'm not clicking lol.

The idea here is to have all the names of the samples inside the Midi editor in Live.
@xaviervontrappe32224 жыл бұрын
@@musicproductionmadeeasy5027 But it also requires a new instance of battery for each single drum part, which means in your example, you have 4 separate instances of battery, and that takes a lot of CPU power. What if you had a drum section with 8 different elements, it would be more work to have to go to each individual instance of battery to make adjustments to the drums (which battery has so many ways to creatively work with your samples). any thoughts?
@franklanse4 жыл бұрын

How is this better for workflow? That whole process probably took longer than playing around on your keyboard for 30 seconds and figuring out where the hits are...

Once you figured it out, you'll save it and just load the Drum Rack in the future. You lose time creating the rack, true, but you will save in the future if you use it a lot.

i like the idea, but this doesn't seem to consider optimizing cpu. An instance of Battery on every drum rack cell is way too intensive. Is there another work around?
@musicproductionmadeeasy50274 жыл бұрын
I couldn't find any other to show the names of the individual samples in the MIDI editor in Ableton. If showing the names is not something you need, you can simply route individual cells from Battery to separate audio tracks as well , to process individually with FXs.
