www.crosstrainingenduro.com Which brands make the best motocross jerseys, pants and gloves? It can be difficult to find good quality products nowadays. Fake reviews by retailers. Social media influencers promoting motocross riding gear brands in exchange for cash. And lazy moto-journalists who just repeat the manufacturer's ads for enduro jerseys, pants and gloves reviews. We also looked into where the motocross boots and mx gloves are manufactured. Recently we compiled hundreds of negative and positive comments from riders about their enduro boots. We think this long-term perspective is much more accurate motocross pants and jerseys review for assessing the true quality of products. So.... the best motocross jerseys and pants? We compiled 350 comments from riders. Best to worst mx pants and jerseys? Some interesting points for motocross riding gear. Many riders said many brands were originally very high quality, but have dropped badly in recent years for riding gear like mx gloves. Klim, Fly, Troy Lee, Moose, MSR, Oneal, Thor and Fox. Unfortunately there were unsufficient comments on other brands to form a reliable judgement on enduro pants and jerseys. This included Shot, Answer, Leatt, Scott, Alpinestar and Shift. The advertising claims that this is for ventilation and comfort, but the textiles often tear very easily... riders believe it's just a cost-cutting measure. A substantial number of riders have resorted to 'non-moto' gear instead of Klim, Fly or Troy lee pants and jerseys. Who makes the best enduro pants and jerseys? And what country are they made in? There is a lot of very poor quality riding gear!I am one of the latest victims. There are also holes developing in the legs of these motocross pants. These include Fox, Thor, MSR, Shift and Moose. Many riders pointed out that some manufacturers are moving to much thinner materials. This is usually workwear, army clothes, jeans, denim jackets, flanalette shirts, and high visibility safety clothes. In cooler climates the lack of ventilation is not a problem and they say this type of clothing is much more abrasion-resistant than most enduro pants and jerseys from Moose, MSR or Oneal. What about the motorbike gloves? We only include approval ratings for brands where there were plenty of comments to form a judgment. The only Fox glove that had any positive rating was the 'Dirtpaw' glove. It is unfortunate that most manufacturers begin with high quality products. It's very interesting to see that one third of riders do not buy motorbike gloves due to the drop in quality over recent years. They prefer work gloves, rigger gloves and even shooting gloves. The motorbike brands? Fly Racing had the highest approval rating. The worst? Fox and Thor not far behind. They become successful, they grow, then they begin to focus on profits instead of quality. Remember these results are only based on comments from 350 riders, so it's only a rough indication of how the brands are perceived by riders. But it will be more accurate than the bullshit reviews on social media... I hope!This is very true with Fox. However, it's good to see that Klim has maintained their standards, at least with their pants and jerseys. And there are frayed threads everywhere and the outer material is half worn through in many places, despite no tearing or abrasion. The good news? These are now the most ventilated pants I have ever used. And the internal mesh liner is intact. Perhaps M2R should use the mesh liner as the external material too. Where is it made? China. No surprises there. Many budget brands choose generic Chinese-made products and just get their logo stitched on, instead of another brand's. he good news? Not too many brands opt for Chinese made pants and jerseys. Oneal used to sell Chinese-made pants and jerseys, but seem to have changed to Taiwan recently. I checked in my local motorbike shops and Alpinestar, Shift, Thor and Fox all appear to use Vietnamese manufacturing now. I am researching motocross/enduro pants and jerseys now. Something to keep in mind is most gear brands have two or three tiers of gear. The top tier being significantly better quality than the entry level line. For brands like Fox and Thor it seems people mostly get the least expensive option where riders that buy brands like Klim seem more willing to spend more on the higher end lines. The Klim XC lite gear I have is very comfortable and light but not that durable while the Mojave line is significantly better quality but heavier and not nearly as comfortable.

Also MX vs Enduro. I think the XC Lite is aimed at MX. Probably has a significantly easier time for MX use vs Enduro. MX stuff is a lot lighter and thinner. Mojave and Dakar for enduro. I have Mojave pants and was thinking of Dakar for a winter pant or for rain. Basically the same as Mojave but without all the mesh.

While that may be true of some brands, I've been buying the, um, more cost effective end of the Fly range and get a great run out of them. Fox, Thor and others, nowhere near as as long lasting.

My short personal experience is the following: FLY, O’Neil and Fox jerseys all lasted equally. For pants, I had an unknown brand that lasted 2 years and it costed around $70. Switched to fox pants ($130) and they feel similar in quality. As for boots I'm still running running the AlpineStar tech 6’s for over 2 years now and the sole is slowly coming apart. I gave the Fox Dirtpaws 3 chances and they all fell apart within 2 months. The bottom wrist part separated, the velcro became unusable and the fingertip stitching came undone. Even tried going up a size but I still had the same problems. Never buying those again. My new FLY gloves are holding up way better. I think FLY provides great value and decent quality, so I’ll likely be sticking to them. Thanks for making these honest videos, not many of them exist!

Thanks for the feedback, Fynn. The only positive comments for Fox gear were about the DirtPaw gloves but I suspect that may have referred to gloves from a few years ago. Yes, Fly seem to be very highly rated so I hope they don't drop quality soon to chase profits!

Gloves: Klim Inversion Pro have worked really well for me in colder weather. Boots: Gaerne (SG12, but trying out the ‘Fastback Enduro’ now) Jersey: my favorite is the ‘Speed and strength’ jersey with built in armor. Super touch, blackberry thorns won’t go through it. A bit warm, but excellent protection- plus incredibly cheap.

I don't know if you leave comments on for videos this old, but here's been my take on gear from my last 3 years, I'd love to hear your take on it as it seems you guys also do silly things on adv bikes too. First off - price & brands mean nothing. I've found that out first with helmets & it's 100% true across the board. I think most people miss the obvious fact of: "the right job for the job." The wrong tool for the job is still functional, but you shouldn't be expecting it to work perfectly. Most of these 'air' or 'lite' jerseys are targeted to mx, sx, & other track based riding. Doesn't matter if they are 10$ or 100$, they weren't designed to be abused in enduro & trail riding settings. I've also found that brands that have good names, like to coast on their good names choosing to cheap out when they can. The important piece is getting to an actual store and touching them. Do they feel quality, are the sewing work done well? These are questions that can only be answered with the product in hand. I'd love to see you guys order a few jerseys and see the results - I know you did a klim test recently but I'd love a 1 from each major brand: klim mojavi vs thor sector minimal (I use & like a lot), fox 180 line, fly f-16, a-star techdura, Troy Lee mono, fasthouse grindhouse & fxr freedom which all seem to be good for the trails & enduro.

Yep, we always leave comments on and make sure we read all of them. And often respond in a very dodgy way lol. Unfortunately it would be pretty expensive to try out all the jerseys. So we figured the cheap way was just to collate hundreds of owner reports and see if any themes emerged. Dodgy of course. But the bigger the sample group, the more accurate it usually becomes. There are things you can't detect until riding. E.g. My extremely ventilated Klim Mojave jersey was in the wash, just wore a no-name brand one. I was sweating like a pig lol.

​@@crosstrainingenduro Haha, fair enough. That would definitely be an expensive venture. I should say, the washer has been the biggest cause of my gear breaking down. I've ended up wearing a compression shirt under the jersey (I still havent bought body armor despite me yeeting myself and the bike a few times over offroad) and compression pants under my dirtbike pants. I started do thing this after my first pair of nearly 200$ dirtbike pants fell apart in the wash after their second time in the wash. when the 'new' jersey and pants get dirty i just hose them off and let them sun dry. my B-O hasn't effected either yet with the compression gear under it with a secondary benefit of even more air flow. with the lack of washing machine my thor minimal jersey and fasthouse sandcat pants are going on a year old with the jersey becoming a bit pilly from tree limbs & the pants while dirty still function as new.

I've had great experiences with Klim gloves, Fly Racing pants and jerseys, and SIDI boots. The soles on the SIDI boots did separate, but my wife kept leaving them in the sun to dry for a day. Not good for the glue, so I can't really blame SIDI. Getting it reattached by a cobbler wasn't too expensive.

I bought "Rev'it" full gloves (style name "Mosca", art. Nr. FGS131) couple of years ago, made in Vietnam. Only minus is a stiches inside, they slightly press into the skin, but despite that they are very comfortable gloves with good protection.

I like TLD, Alpinestar, Leatt and 100% Troy Lee Designs gloves jerseys and my GF loves their helmet. Alpinestar boots and helmet are top knotch, love them. Leatt safety gear with their knee pads and moto shorts keep me pushing my limits. 100% can't go wrong with their goggles! Fox has definitely gone down in quality BUT I prefer their socks over any other brand I've tried..

Love my MSR kit - the pants did burn a hole in them when bike exhaust landed on me, but probably would happen with others. The pants feel good quality to me and have good pockets, some padding and faux-leather on inner-kee to stop rubbing. Also have an Alpinestars "KTM" jersey that is good material and I've worn it loads. Had some Fly gear too that was decent but I think the MSR was a bit better all-round.

Great video onceagain :) Dont know the data this video is based on, but it more or less matches my own experience with MC gear. There used to be so many good brands, but now its hard to keep up with the good stuff. One brand might have a good jacket this year, but is crap 3 years from now. Other sports have the same problem; hiking or hunting gear... exact same thing.

Garne SG12 Boots, FLY Racing Helmet, pants and jersey. I have not used a lot of other brands but I like the Fly Racing products. The pants are vented and very tough. I had a bad crash on some rocks and the pants were not affected at all. Great info Barry! Cheers!

I really like my Fox Legion LT gear, the jersey has been holding up really well. Still using my 2019 set, but its about time to retire it. For gloves, the dirtpaws suck, I have gone through about 4 pairs in three years and they never fit my large hands right. I went to Fasthouse because my good buddy has been riding with his over over a year and they are great gloves! I will always buy Fasthouse gloves now, fit and durability are awesome.

I think I am aligned very close to the opinions of the 350 riders. I used to use Fox and went away after a replacement set of gloves lasted two rides. I thought it was just a bad pair. Got another pair. Same thing 2 or three rides and came apart at seams. Then same happened for a pair of pants. I stitched a pair back together three times. Was calling them my Fix gloves. They are in dump somewhere. I just have the original fox pants and jersey from years ago. The newer less used pairs have all died and been tossed. I have a two pair of Fly gloves (favorite) a pair of 100% (the are warmer if cold out) and some O'Neil that are the backup to the backups but have taken a beating as loaners to friends. All lasted better than the last three pair of Fox gloves. Mostly Fly pants and jersey and TLD. Had Fox boots that are like as stiff as a good pair of cowboy boots. Got rid of them and now SG12. I don't even consider Fox now. Maybe I should???

It's a shame they changed so much in recent years. Judging by viewer comments, Fox's most expensive pants and jerseys seem to last better but some riders still find it fails quickly... and it shouldn't at that price.

Agree with the BS reviews when stuff is supplied free and there is no confirmation that the supplier has no influence and there is at least some negative criticism included or suggestion for improvement. However, your 350 rider opinions is only valid if they have actually tried other brands to be able to compare. For instance, I have only used O'Neal pants and Fox 180 jersies, and Fly Racing gloves, primarily because they fitted my body shape and were comfortable and weren't at stupid premium prices. I have taken some interesting falls and the gear has taken them with and we have survived. I have no doubt that Klim is great gear, feels great, etc, however, if the pants don't fit because you have a big belly and short legs, then there's no point. I have no issues paying premium price for premium quality, but I want to try on before I buy and most of the typical MX or Adv clothing shops around near me don't stock the really expensive gear.

Boots: Alpinestars tech 5 great, Fox lux 180 pants are are actually decent but same 180 lux jersey is very thin (bought because it was the only one option with 3xl for jersey so it fits loose over o neals 2 xl body protector) gloves: leatt 2.5 x flow great, and for helment shoei vfx which is also great.

It's a shame Leatt make almost all of their stuff in China. We were very unhappy with the premature rust in their 'premium' helmet (see our vid review). We have had quite a few reports of the Chinese-made Leatt boots failing and/or wearing prematurely but not enough to base a video on the results.

My Klim jersey and pants seem to be the best fit and longevity. MSR is a brand that a lot of my equipment is made by and I don't think i have to many complaints other then it took several rides for my helmet to get comfortable. Fox at one time was my favorite but in the last 15-20 years the quality has hit turd level. Just recently my wife received a casual catalog by mail from Fox so that should tell you where their quality has gone to.

Klim also makes top quality gear for arborist / tree fellers. So they have experience designing & manufacturing safety gear for professional workers. At my age, 70, my even cheap gear will outlast me, but I do enjoy owning & using top quality tools.

I have a round head as well and it fits great. The sizing is a bit different. I’ve had scorpion, agv, and shoei helmets (street and dirt) and always been an XL, but my fly is a large and fits perfect. They actually had measurements for head circumference on their website, so you can measure to make sure you get the right size for whichever model you want.

Mechanic gloves are great cost 20 and last for an age. Fly gear re pants and tops have been solid thus far and take the crashes well, seem durable. REVIT body armour enduro stuff has been great as well, mid to hi end priced tho.

I’m an older guy, just getting into buying the branded off-road gear. I was a work wear or just suffer through my heavy ADV gear. I bought some Fox Legion gear and it seems to be holding up well but I was checking out some jerseys and noticed some bad stitching on some Fox gear. It’s unfortunate as the fabric seems like it would hold up better than some of the brands I’d seen.

Never had any issues with Five gloves for street/track use. Started riding enduro a couple years ago and just used my Five textile street gloves. Just recently got their enduro gloves and they seem pretty good too. Around 80 bucks with knuckle protection and some venting. Also easy to find in 3 and 4xl Gaerne for boots, Klim for pants, just happened to pick a fly jersey which has been pretty good. Leatte hybrid air for a protector. Bad thing about Klim is its almost impossible to find in stock. Something else you could mention in future vids is the curse that has crept into MX/Enduro pants that is the "skinny leg". Fashion fad catering to all those muppets skipping leg day at the gym.

Had fox gear for 4 years. Cheap 180 stuff with dirt paw gloves. Still no problem at all except for the right index finger of the glove. But with some thread it’s good as new. I know ppl cry about the initial quality of gear but maybe patch it up when it breaks a few times. Don’t waste money buying new things when all u need is 5 minutes of your time to fix it before it gets worse.

My experience for info… Fox Dirtpaw and Polarpaw are solid gloves. Used them for years. Mrs currently runs their gear as she likes the colours and they had a better range of female fitments. Wearing ok. Her last couple of kits have been Alpinestars, as have most of mine. The more vented the better out here, their top end gear isn’t cheap but it feels good on. All the vented kits don’t like the bushes though, applies to all brands. Gloves - I prefer the Leatt GPX 4.5, they’re wearing well. Got some protection on the back of your hand. Well vented, both great and awful in the desert…. not falling off and sticking your hand in the sand helps. 😅 Helmets - both running 6D ATR-2 due to their MIPS system. Look smart, light and well balanced. Downsides are cost (not cheap but cost is relative to how much you value what’s inside the helmet) and it makes your head look massive because of the MIPS system. Used Nolan before, was ok, decent lid. Knee protection - Pod K8 V2, brilliant. Mrs runs Alpinestars bionic pads. Both holding up well. Neck braces - Leatt 5.5 for me, Alpinestars Bionic 2 for the Mrs. Saw a few desert rides gone sour and a couple of cases where no neck brace would’ve been a fatality. Would not ride fast open going without one. Body protection - Leatt 3DF Lite, great bit of kit. Alpinestars Stella for the Mrs which doesn’t work with their neck brace due to the female chest plate. Quality ok, compatibility poor. Boots - both using Alpinestars, kiddie sized ones for the Mrs and 2020MY Tech 10’s for me. On my second pair, they’re not cheap but the new one feels like a Tech 7 on steroids, unlike the old one which felt like a plaster cast. Rode out the desert with a broken ankle in them though, definitely did it’s job. Got Forma Boulder trials boots, they’re decent too. Our riding here consists of desert rides, dried river beds, MX tracks and enduro loops. Don’t see many trees/bushes like we do in the UK so horses for courses in terms of kit selection. The lighter and more vented the better. 🥵😅

Forgot to add… goggles! Mrs is on her second pair of Scott Prospect, decent goggles, good lenses. After a brief flirtation with ProGrip I went back to Oakley. My ProGrip goggles were good, great choice of lenses, polarised and reactive options. Quality just not as high as the Oakley’s. My old O-Frame enduro dual vented are still in good nick. Now running Oakley Airbrake’s, the lens change system is the best out there and the Prizm lenses are great. Optical quality is excellent and the colour/hue options work well. Their advisory colour charts for them are 💩 though, don’t tell the full story. Prizm - Torch Irridium, great for low to medium light, mixed terrain colours. Sapphire Jade great for light coloured sand, gives good contrast to an otherwise dangerously blank landscape. Black iridium can cope with midday desert sun, darker hue than the others but kills the glare considerably. Bronze is ok too, doesn’t work as well in the glare as the iridium coated sapphire lense though. Again, prefaced by riding in light coloured through to red/orange sand, gravel trails and gatch roads. 😁

Maybe my method is better than I thought! I find great deals on used gear, which I guess means it's the higher quality stuff the brands used to sell, before cutting quality to boost short-term profits. This includes a nice pair of SG-10 boots that may be the first year they were made.

I agree the quality of Fox gear has gone way down and is cheaply made. I like my Klim gear and my Fly gear. I purchased some Fly gear last year on close out. I was impressed on the build quality and the material used in their pants and jerseys. Not as good as the Klim gear but it's affordable and durable.

I love my Leatt pants and jerseys. They are easily the best I've ever had in terms of design, quality, comfort, and durabilty. I've had several pairs of Leatt gloves but all were garbage. They fell apart quickly and the wrist closures didn't work. I have a pair of Forma Predator 2 boots that I mainly use but the quality isn't great. It's the same for my Sidi Crossfire 3 boots that I still sometimes wear. Neither of these is as good as my older Gaerne SG10s that I bought used years ago and are still in good shape. Once the Forma and Sidi boots are a bit more worn then I will go back to my old Gaerne boots or maybe buy some new ones. The Gaernes are a little bit heavier but very well made, very protective, and very durable.

Gloves seem to be the weak point! EVen when Klim is ranked the best by owners, their gloves are only so-so judging by the comments from riders. You can't go wrong with Gaerne boots, I just bought my first pair ever... everyone in my group has used them for years.

I find that I have been pretty lucky with alpine stars gear, both pants, jersey and gloves fit well and hold up good. Chest protector jacket alpinestars bionic and leatt knee braces, they both are ok even Though I tore my acl with braces on. Leatt helmet is good. Boots tcx helium, very comfy and hold up pretty good. Best ever is my jt gloves that held up 200 hours and a still have a fox set that’s 10 years old and the quality is excellent. Worst ever for me is seven, pants tore after one ride. Knee braces didn’t fit well and super tight on the legs and so loose on waist. Almost felt like they mixed up 2 sizes. 24mx gear that’s called raven is also pure crap.

I'm a big believer in spend the big bucks on quality helmet and boots. Pants, jerseys and gloves are all bought when heavily discounted. It's less painful hen they come apart at the seams after only a few rides. Work pants and flannys are still my default though 😎

It's a good point and I actually had this in my notes but the vid was getting too long. However I still think the quality is critical. It's often the stitching that comes undone and this doesn't have to be lightweight on vented clothing.

@@crosstrainingenduro that is very true. Find alot of it depends on run or possible who made it at the factory as lot been stiching right on the edge(had issue with thor tool bag and 3l hydro pack. Plus never double stiched). One thing look at is kini redbull gear normally can get decant pricing on closeout stuff. Got 2 sets of 2016 gear for 270 or 330usd(forget exactly think was 270 with like $40 in shipping).

It’s nice to have Uncle Sam buy your gloves… there’s usually a catch though, so watch out for that. He’ll set you up with Outdoor Research gear and you won’t want anything else after that. But, when buying gloves with my own money, Mechanix seems to be the best bang-for-buck value. They’ve been making gloves for a long time, which is important for getting the ergonomics/dexterity right, and that’s really what it’s all about with the hands.

Right now I ride some KINI Pants out of the KTM PP Collection. Good Quality, durable, very scratch resistent. Saidly, the exact model isn`t avaiable anymore, but it seems to me that quality is good on these KINI Products. By Gloves quite durable are some Alpinestars (not all of them!) most comfy for my hands are Thor. Thor is a good price fore the money, but they hold about one year, not more . By Jerseys I buy cheap , I destroy them anyway in the stones and trees

I've had a pair of Shift over boot trousers ( pants to the un educated ) for 8 years but starting to look bit worn now, but I use army surplus gortex for wet weather ( same for jacket ). Me personally 100% cold weather gloves, when it's really cold ski gloves and when its wet builders gloves as they stay tacky so it reduces arm pump, my UFO enduro jacket I have just worked out it's 12 years old and still in quite good condition ( by that I mean I havent had to repair it ). Shirts are what ever I can get as they do tend to get ripped to sh1t on the bushes & trees, so why pay stupid money just to ruin it, boots for me are Alpinestar just because they fit my YETI feet well. Hopefully you got to the end of this without getting bored.

IMO the only decent stuff fox makes these days are the Comps. For whatever reason Gaerne and Alpinestars no matter the model hurt the arch in my foot, I found the Comps to be the most comfortable. Having said that people say they don't last more than 2 years, but at 1/3 the price of the Alpinestars Tech 7s I am willing to forgive long-term durability.

Bought mostly Klim gear for the last few yrs as it simply holds up well. Even the XC lite fairs quite well. Unfortunately their gloves don't work well with my hands. Have a set of Fox and couple MSR pants and jerseys. I think key with some of these brands is you need to buy higher up their line. Though at that point you might as well buy Klim.

Surprised to see Klim in the lead. Probably because the audience is American? I was very happy with my Klim Dakar OTB trousers, which exuded quality. I wanted the same brand of trousers but more enduro oriented, so I went to the shop (not easy to find Klim in France). I didn't even dare to try any when I saw one and the materials (few in number) that made it up. Maybe the quality varies according to the range?

It's hard to say... I'm very aware that 350 isn't a big sample. Most of the comments came from my viewers so it could well be 40% north Americans commenting. Ideally it would be good to have at least 1000 comments or more.

Klim ‘in the boot’ pans are great. The ‘over the boot’ ones are awful. The phony velcro won’t stay closed. Some cheap Thor over boot I got on closeout worked a LOT better and a LOT cheaper.

Give them that as feedback. I've had great response from Klim (for my wife's gear) when I gave them some constructive criticism. Future models had the issue fixed (pants would clump up behind the knee making them uncomfortable for long days)

Gotcha. They probably improved the velcro at some point, mine still works fine. At least they seem to respond to stuff. I did have a pair of Klim Mojave about eight years ago, they were great but the leather inserts around the knee cracked fairly quickly. Others complained about the same thing. At some point they changed the type of leather and it hasn't happened again.

Won’t be buying that one again. I was in rider training for 9 years up till recently. I also don’t own a car and ride everyday. I ride road, track, dirt and adventure, we are charged too much in Australia for sub standard gear. Keep up the good work on exposing this. Hopefully one day it will make a difference!

Leatt helmets/goggles/boots are very good. Their gloves are shit. Aplinestar and Forma are my boot go to's. I use the Fox Legion line of pant/jersey and have no complaints

Our boots comparison based on hundreds of owner comments put Forma as second best and Alpinestar a bit lower. theLeatt boots were a bit too new to get a lot of comments but we were a bit shocked at how many were saying they wore out too quickly or buckles were failing. The Fox Legion gear seems to get the least complaints out of all their stuff.
