My necro tank has made it really easy to go for no death and speed run achievements in dungeons because of the ulti gen. You get barriers so quickly and combined with saxhleel you can still provide the group with major force. Sustain is rarely an issue if you build correctly but it does require you to spend on food, armor and jewelry glyphs, and making sure your gear is all in the right trait

plus Magma incarnate is a great set for help apply buff from a Necro tank. Granted this is a matter of opinion but I dont think they are even close to the bottom.

Currently my guild holds 4 of NA's vet trifecta records and a WR trifecta vet run. DK > Warden = Necro > Templar > Sorc > Nightblade. Anyone saying otherwise is either speaking from pub experience or dungeons. The NA record we literally just got for the vDSR trifecta was using Warden + Necro tanks because they're the current bis for allowing max dps to the rest of the trial. This list is almost completely backwards and has a TON of incorrect information.

my necro tank has fallen off a bit with these updates but I still enjoy playing it for the absolute madness that is combining drake's rush and arkasis' genius to make the whole team pump out ults like they're on a bargain sale. Meanwhile my DK tank remains my usual go-to when I want to play more seriously and is still the playstyle I have the most fun with.

My favorite tank class currently is sorcerer. Hands down makes almost all content easy mode and I’ve had my easiest clears of every vet trial and arena on that class as a tank. I still find my Nightblade to be extremely fun but I feel guilty at times for running on it as I’m doing nothing for the group typically. After my main tank clear of vet Dreadsail on Nightblade, I actually apologized to my team and thanked them for letting me have that fun experience on the class. Necro still appears to be the most commonly requested Off Tank for console (Xbox) in my experience. Anytime I’m OT, it’s always on Necro and the class still has viability in group comps. Templar is my go to tank class for runs with my casual raiding guild who don’t push vet HMs or scores. It’s just a easy class to tank on and I like to use the Templar for runs where I’m asked to use Tremor/Crimson. Dk is the Dk, enough said. Warden for me is the least played and least enjoyed class to tank on. I can do it and my toon is solid, but something about the class doesn’t synergize with me. I just don’t like it.

Must be just me. I don't have any sustain issues on necro, and I am a fan of the mitigation. Agony is awesome for allowing mobs to come in to the area and be feared automatically, allows me to stack way better than using, say, talons. Boneyard, too is very useful, moreso, imo, than caltrops. Having synergies for the group from your debuffs and cc is helpful too and. I use this tank for all vet and vet hm content. Healing has never really been an issue for me either, so, um... I have a full ulti build too for optimised groups, where it allows dps to cap out ulti, for boss fights. Master Architect combined with their Balorgh burn builds means a lot of vet bosses in content just melt. The only reason I would go for DK would be for groups that I know want to use heroism pots, otherwise I kind of find DK a little dull.
@annachanel0072 жыл бұрын
Hey, do you have a build of your Necro tank? Would love to see it! Especially your “rotation” to learn more. From what I gather, if you use fear you cannot use on a taunt on them after, or something like that? You won’t be able to use Pierce Armor basically after Agony, right? Still a bit new to the game and mechanics
@phdiy39132 жыл бұрын
I use yol body, olorime back bar (ice staff)and vateshran s&b…pretty much same setup as shown at start of video in terms of skills…..usually open with caltrops, clench (taunt while closing) wall, power bash (to proc vateshran) impulse for adds inside wall, then chain others in not to forget puncture on main adds/boss defo fun play style
@pklemming2 жыл бұрын
@@annachanel007 Pearls Body, Yolna back bar or Arkasis body, Drake's back bar. Sax body/ Master architect back bar with colo back bar ulti. You will also want access to a fairly large number of tank helms, which can be found on TC site and, again are swapped in depending on the fight. If you are unswure, bloodspawn is always nice on a necro, as is earthgore or nazaray My 'generic' setup is Pierce agony totem, pierce armor, unnerving boneyard, silver leash, hungry scythe: Replen Barrier. Back bar, Blockade of frost, inner rage, necrotic potency, spirit guardian, beckoning armor: glacial colossus. This is very much a setup a lot of things, but not everything. As a tank you will swap in a lot of stuff depending on needs. So, stuff like crushing shocj, heroic slash, destructive clench, ele drain and stampede to name a few. Get your master weapon as soon as you can, it is going to save your life. You can use a vate shield too if you want, but I dislike to drop in survivability and don't need it to manage adds. As for rotation, there really is not one. It is again very fight dependant and is very much an experience thing. I prebuff, lead with inner rage, or similar, and drop totem between myself and the adds, or on a range target I want to stack things on. Boneyard next for the debuffs, then start taunting and pulling in mobs. Boss fights are depending again, on the fight. keep your taunt on, your buffs up, wall down. bring in adds and use totem if possible to lock them down until they are taunted. Always keep an eye on the boss. Watch what he does and when. If you have a time to do a heavy attack, do it... always. Remember as well as mender and scythe, your master sword and board will give you significant heals.

I’m just starting out so I have very limited experience on anything, but I’m currently levelling every class of tank mixed with various races, and so far the Necro tank has been the most fun for PvE (That bone giant ultimate is perfection) and DK tank for PvP. DK cc paired with the dragon leap ultimate just feels so awesome in objective games. This is a great review to help engage what I should be focussing more on for the eventual late game content. Thanks!
@pklemming2 жыл бұрын
Necros are fun, but you really should not need the skel ulti. If you are going to die, then, sure, but Stompy is better for the group. You could also run Barrier for the group and have Saxheel on you to provide the group major force, though Colossus is preferred for Master Architect, Saxheel, Naz burns.
@Olliewr842 жыл бұрын
@@pklemming I’m new enough to not know what half you just said was haha. I haven’t hit 50 on any character yet so it’s still very early days for me. I’ll switch out colossus for a more viable team-oriented ult when the time comes as I do want to run all classes through endgame, but for the levelling stage I just find it more fun. Thanks for the advice though, it’s duly noted!

Usually I agree with your takes, but you are a bit off with your take on necro this patch. It went from being the far and above superior choice along with dk last patch, to being up for debate, but still optimal choice in quite a few trails and individual boss fights. For longer than 90s fights, Turning tide is worse than colossuses for overall dps. Not running TT and running necro tank frees up a support set slot and a dd to run a higher dps class which comes out ahead overall in a lot of fights. TT has its place, but it is not good enough to push necro to bottom tier. For dungeons, necro is now fairly interchangable with all the other non-DK classes in terms of group utility.

I learned the game and how to tank on Necro up to semi-lategame with HM clears in all trials but I quit recently because the gear grind was wearing a toll and then they decided to just make the entire class useless. Since ZOS didn't seem to care about this by introducing even more and more sets that replace Necro buffs I just lost all hope. It's not that I'm unwilling to learn the game on other classes but it's losing confidence in ZOS that absolutly killed it for me. They are so disjointed from their playerbase it's truly sad.

Hey Lee, had a couple things to add to nightblade tank that you didn't seem to mention in the video, and was wondering why it would still be ranked below sorc tank. I have been a templar tank main for years ever since I started tanking, and nightblade tank is probably my second most played. obviously I understand why nightblade tanks are not that desirable, but you did forget to mention that they have an AOE minor vuln they can apply from lotus fan, which is not a skill you see dps using obviously. so it could be useful in a group without a warden running flies, or it's also somewhat useful for trash packs since the warden flies are single target. nightblades also have soul siphon which can offer the group an AOE major vitality, which would also be useful for prog groups/situations where you need the extra healing, or groups not using bone shield. obviously sorc tanks get major vitality from restraining prison, but it's only a self buff. I'm curious to hear your thoughts!

I'm a lvl 655 Orc Dragonknight tank, but now play solo taking away some tankiness, I found dungeon runs to be very toxic, often high lvl dps would rush ahead , past mobs, don't slow down for others quest or looting. A extra 30 seconds cuts into their mad rush to lvl up, nobody else counts. Oh, heaven forbid if you don't know every enemies tactics.

My top 3 is still DK, Necro, and Warden. DK imo wont be dethroned unless the class is drastically changed. Seen many arguments for Necro and Warden being better, but after tanking on all 3 extensively, I just dont see it. I dont think they come close, even without stone giant factored in. The other 3 classes are fun to tank on and are definitely viable for all content, but dont compare to the top 3 imo.

I've always enjoyed my warden tank the most, and still stubbornly refuse to tank as a dk, even after I levelled one and unlocked his Cyrodiil and undaunted stuff. I'm a bit sad that necro has fallen from favor after the introduction of some major vuln sets, although it's probably just as well that necros are no longer seen as mandatory.

DK is my go-to for tanking. It's basically tanking made easy IMO. The other classes are great for more skilled players as far as I'm concerned. I agree with the 1st and 2nd places on this list. Granted my Warden Tank is more of a frosty theme build, so not nearly as well set up as my DK. Years ago I tried tanking with a templar and NB, but I just didn't like them. I may have tried a Sorc Tank, but I can't remember if I did lol. Tried out my Necro Tank for the first time in months, and well, I'm struggling with it. Granted, it's not been updated for some time, which is part of the issue. It's a little different game style, which will take more practice to get used to.

Question for somebody who is about to switch to PC (currently building my very first gaming PC) and want to try tanking for the first time. I’ll prefix this by saying that I’m NOT an end game player. I participate in normal trials (not vet and certainly not HM) as-well as dungeons (vet on base game dungeons, not currently on the DLC ones, but maybe when I learn the mechanics of certain ones better I’ll delve into that). I’m wondering if a Templar Khajiit would be viable for the kind of content I run. I know it’s not META (not even close), and won’t stand a chance of being accepted into Vet Trials (but again, that’s not something I’m planning on doing anyway), but if it’s at least able to perform to a somewhat acceptable standard in the easier content the game has to offer, that would be absolutely perfect for me. I already run a Khajiit Templar (I prefer only having the one character) as both a DD and Healer and, despite neither being particularly optimal, I’m not an optimal player, but I’m able to do both roles in the content I do run more than fine. I can easily keep my team alive (assuming they aren’t running off all over the place obviously) as a healer, and I’m also able to do sufficient damage as a DD, but maybe most importantly, I’m able to clear content/dungeons/WB’s etc solo when either their aren’t people available to play with or if I simply feel like playing solo. So it makes sense that, if a Khajiit Templar can perform as a tank at least somewhat adequately in the content I play, that I stick with that and have a Tank setup in my armoury station for it besides the setups I currently have, enabling me to play the content of my choice all on the same character (again, something I much prefer) in whichever role I feel at that present moment. If it’s not viable (even on the easier content), I’d willingly sacrifice that particular build as I’m really interested in trying tanking for the first time, but since I simply enjoy the playstyle of the Templar (both as a healer and DD), and the utility it offers, if it is able to do less challenging content as a Tank, that would be absolutely perfect for me. To those still here, I apologise for the lengthy post, I just wanted to provide as much information as to my preferred playstyle as possible to increase the chances of getting the best possible information to the question as possible for me personally, and I thank you in advance for any advice/assistance you’re able to provide.

I main templar and I disagree, I would rate them at second probably. They also ress fast and full stats, good passives, decent dps with full non-dps gear. My other tanks can't even do 1/4 of my main tank's dps even without using jabs or any dps skills. Warden might compete for the second place but I don't like it as much, I might play my argonian warden more and see if it's any better. But as templar I just tanked vKA and in most of it I had max stamina. Also what the fuck sorc? I get the shield is broken but it does buff magicka and not stamina but besides that and having 5 sec duration, no.
