The Wave XLR allows you to use their Wave Link software with any XLR mic. This is a huge selling point for it because typically to use their software you have to use an Elgato XLR mic. The software gives you so many features like adding digital inputs so you can adjust volume levels on the fly for multiple things, EQ for whatever mic you have plugged in plus other audio effects. Definitely check it out if you haven't yet!

Thank you very much for your review!! I have been using an AT2020USB+ for almost three years, and now I think it´s the moment to change to Podmic (or procaster) + El Gato XLR because of it´s easy to plug and use and it will reject more non desired noises than my At2020USB (condenser usb). Hey I'm thinking of getting the Wave Link XLR soon, I currently use the Scarlett Solo and a cloudlifter to boost the mic and not sure if I missed it but were you also using a booster or was that just the podmic straight into the xlr? Thanks for the great video!
@KevinKolbe2 жыл бұрын
Nope, no booster at all. Podmic goes straight into the Elgato Wave XLR and that goes straight into the computer.
@darthbuzzkill2 жыл бұрын
@@KevinKolbe thank you for getting back to me! i think i will try the elgato xlr with podmic and see how that goes for me :)
@Weird_Quests Жыл бұрын
@@darthbuzzkill You probably already have it - the reason why the Elgato Wave XLR is good is because it provides up to 75db of clean gain, whereas the Podmic only needs about 50dbish (depending on what level you are wanting to record at) Other interfaces can only provide 40-60db of gain, which is why they need the cloudlifter or equivalent, because when you max out the interface, you get a lot of interference. It was the reason I got the Elgato too - it sits around 60-70% for me and I get no hissing.

Hey there! Loved the video! Had a quick question: Did you use any extra equipment for your Rode Podmic? I had bought the exact same setup, Wave XLR + Podmic, but when I plug the Podmic in- it only picks up a hissing sound at max. I've tested it with my Neewer Condenser Mic, which works like a charm. Just wanted to see if there was something I was missing, or if anyone else had this issue before exchanging. Thanks!

Appreciate the comment. Nothing special in the hookup and no extra gear either. In fact, the XLR cable I'm using is an Amazon Basics.

Hi, I have a question! I just recently purchased this mic with the M-Audio XLR interface and many of my friends have told me I was sounding very soft and then at one point sounding like a chipmunk. Should I consider using the Wave XLR instead? I purchased a different audio interface to pair with the M-Audio XLR interface in order for it to work? This is my first time using an XLR as I was coming from a USB.
@KevinKolbe2 жыл бұрын
I don't know anything about the M-Audio interface so can't say for sure. I know mine sounds great but that's also because the mic is a solid mic. I prefer an XLR in this set-up over a USB since you should never get any audio lag which you can get sometimes with streaming apps. Having said that though, I find USB mics to be great too, I just use mine with my cameras. Hope that helps.
@NintendoNerdKim2 жыл бұрын
@@KevinKolbe Thank you so much for letting me know! I actually am using the Rode Pod Mic and my friends initially told me I sounded very low on Discord and they had trouble hearing me and then I sounded like a chipmunk. I had to crank the gain ALL the way up for them to hear me.
@KevinKolbe2 жыл бұрын
@@NintendoNerdKim it could be your audio interface. I have my level on the Elgato Wave XLR set to over half. Can't say for sure since it's not a number based but guessing around 55-60% volume.

What's the best mic in the same price range if I want to keep the mic off-screen, in other words, a few feet from the person speaking? I find having a big mic on screen to be kind of distracting. Thank you!

@@KevinKolbe Thank you for your feedback, this is extremely helpful! For some reason when I use Geforce Experience Overlay to save clips of gaming or something I can hear static noise in my recordings, but when I test it on the scarlett solo I don't hear it at all. I use a Rode Podmic and AT2020. It strictly comes down to interface. When in discord I don't hear it when communicating with friends. Seems to be an interface issue but unlikely. I have used 3 Elgato Wave interfaces, they all have the exact same result. So it can't be my particular unit either

4:42 so I am a bit confused now. Do I need to plug in another audio interface there or is the usb c port for connecting the wave XLR into the computer? I thought the wave XLR IS the interface then c.c
