Caribbean Weather in October: Best and Worst Destinations

Caribbean weather in October is the second worst month of the year for rain, tropical storms and hurricanes in the Caribbean.
Historically, October has an average of four tropical storms, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. They bring heavy amounts of rain to most of the islands in the Caribbean, although not quite as much as September.
October also is the second worst month of the year for tourism. Fewer cruise ships travel through the region. Far fewer tourists visit hotels and resorts.
With that in mind, let’s look at the best and worst places to visit in the Caribbean during October.
Historically, the two driest destinations in the Caribbean are Aruba and Curacao. They normally have low rainfall throughout the year, but they see a small jump in October.
The next best is St. Maarten, followed by Antigua. Otherwise, most destinations have much higher than normal rainfall.
The five worst destinations for rain in October are Costa Rica, Dominica, Martinique, Belize and Cozumel.
The next worst are Grand Cayman, Cancun, St. Lucia and a tie among Barbados, Cuba and Jamaica.
Although good weather is possible, the risk of rain is much higher than the rest of the year.
For people who like hot weather, five destinations have average daytime temperatures that are the hottest in the Caribbean. They are:
- Grand Cayman
- Aruba
- Curacao
- St. Thomas
- San Juan
But Grand Cayman averages quite a bit of rain. St. Thomas and San Juan also have above average rainfall. Once again the winners are Aruba and Curacao.
Otherwise, most other destinations have average daytime temperatures in the upper 80s Fahrenheit or about 30 Celsius.
But some people still go to the Caribbean in October for one of four reasons:
- They take advantage of discounted prices and hope the weather is good.
- They make plans at the last minute after checking the weather forecasts.
- They don’t know that October has a much higher chance of rain.
- They also may choose destinations that have a lower risk of rain.

The average daytime temperature is 30 degrees Celsius. The averge rainfall is highest of the year at 13 inches. I suggest staying away in October.
