This will be unpopular probably but I’m gonna share anyway. I used to be OBSESSED with EDC. I’d color coordinate, have all brass, or all copper, whatever. I’d try to have the best combo of tools i could possibly have. Sebenzas, custom knives, custom flashlights, the works. I thought it was so cool. But it always left me feeling empty. The satisfaction of having really nice gear only lasted a very short time and then it was on to the next acquisition. I urge people to understand this compulsion and maybe try to work on it. More EDC gear isn’t going to make you happy. Fast forward to now and I carry a knife, and maybe a flashlight. But I USE the tools. I’ve been carrying the same 4v spyderco native for like 2 years now, and the same flashlight when I do carry it. But I actually fucking USE the shit now and guess what, it makes me much happier. The satisfaction comes from the gear working for you. It’s not about just buying more shit. More useless shit. How many knives and flashlights and stupid shit does one person need? If you’re like i was, you’re trying to fill a void by constantly buying this shit and it never works. It’s never GOING to work. Save your money and look for your happiness somewhere else. Just my experience and opinion. Take it for what it’s worth, which isn’t much.

I’m not gonna pretend I don’t buy knives I don’t need, but this is why I don’t get expensive knives. I prefer cheaper knifes. the most I’ll spend is $60. Because I know I’m gonna abuse it, so buying an expensive knife that may break is not worth it. Also you can find cheaper alternatives to stuff that is just as good.

What about a “no theme” episode? Everything needs to mismatch, no color repeating, that sort of deal?

That Gerber multitool looks like a model 600 industrial with blunt nosed pliers, I used to carry the same model but with the needlenose, carried it for 3 years in the army, and 10 after a a mechanic...I wish I had that awesome patina on mine

For Josh looking for a flashlight. The olight i3t is a great edc light because of the cost and it has a low and high mode but take it to the next level by getting one of the 10440 AAA sized batteries for it. It’s a 3.7v battery instead of a regular 1.5v aaa. It triples the high output of the flashlight which makes it crazy bright on high. And because if the size it fits into most all pocket organizers

I just discovered the world of EDC as a designer. I've always had this slightly controversial thought on design that if a product generates sentimental value by design to a niche group of people, its when design improves life (no matter its functions or performance)... However, the standard approach is to design based on research and design for market fit(also true). In EDC these rules are so playful and changable on preference that its like a design utopia. It's where design meets functional art pieces, minus capitalist parameters. There's something very primal and sentimental to it. In my opinion its design at its most ideal and personal state. (e.g when you say ''they are unnecessary but they are one of my favorite pieces'' sums it all)

Tip for next time….show the carry a bulk of the video as you’re talking through them. Maybe bring the shot back to you as you give your commentary on it at the end. You used to do this so not sure why it changed.

So jumping in for a little help. On one recent Best Damn EDC video, Taylor had a retractable pen where the whole head retracted back in the body. Can anyone point me in the direction of what that pen was?
