A few of my mates have had their motors chipped so that their top speeds are not limited. Their strava times have all improved. This makes a big difference. But there is a whole world of, is it the right thing to do. It may not apply in NZ but you wouldn’t want to crash into someone with a chipped bike and put them in hospital in the states, insurance companies will do all they can not to pay out and to come and collect from you if they can.
@bestdayevermtb210 күн бұрын
NZ is very different. Firstly it is not against the law to derestrict a bike. You simply have to obey the posted speed limits and the bike must not be over a certain power output. Secondly you cannot sue for accidents causing injury. All accidents in NZ are covered by a thing called ACC. Medical bills paid and you receive 80% of your wages while you can't work. Even tourist are covered by ACC. Not a perfect system but I believe much better than having to hope you medical insurance will cover your bills and having to get a lawyer and try to extract money from someone who doesn't have any.

@ got all that and agree with you the question is should we all be chipping our bikes in NZ, or not, one bike shop the other day told their customer it would void their warranty. I am sure there are two sides to the argument. I am not sure where I stand on this. And, do you need the race version of the Bosch motor if you have chipped the standard version, I get the feeling looking at your data and riding with guys on chipped bikes that chipped bikes are more of an advantage than the race version. (FYI i love my Bosch on my rail and run it in EMTB most of the time, sometimes using the turbo to climb straight fire roads, e.g. Maraetai and have a rest and chat as we ride, before the next run downhill).
@bestdayevermtb29 күн бұрын
@markthompson7817 Yes chipping the bike will void the warranty if they are aware. Although I know multiple people who have had warranty claims despite the motor being chipped. Chipping would be a much bigger advantage than the race motor, well downhill anyway. I must admit a derestricted bike is so nice to ride. It is not about speed but the motor just feels so much nicer.

Oh I was referring to not having room to store the bike lol. And I totally understand about the wife not liking it when you get random pictures.. It was really good to see her get out and ride with you this year BTW.. I used to live in between New Lynn and Titirangi, played a lot of golf at Pinesong when it was still a golf course and I managed to get myself on the front page of the Herald back 84 I believe it was, hit a tree while rallying in Riverhead. Anyways keep up the good work and if you plan on Whistler next year give us a date, I'm only about 5 hours from there in WA state.

Hi Lance. Have a question for you which is slightly off topic. Have you or any of dad's army used Secure storage at auckland airport? I'm flying to Queenstown with my bike from Sydney and stopping in Auckland for a few days to visit my parents on the way. Just wondering if they provide a good service. Thanks 👍

Thanx for the video mate. I would say, that noticable difference can only be on steepest climbs, you rode mixed trail, where the power of the race model ( 400% assist, 600w peak power) is not so relevant. And one more thing - you gotta ride a race motor for some time and "learn" its potential. Then you can be much faster. For downhill its no point to compare any ebike motor, how can it be any different, if you ride with 30, 40, 50 km/h...
@bestdayevermtb2Ай бұрын
Yes I agree. The race motor is better with steep technical terrain. As mentioned in the video, I don't have any trails like that where I live. This is a problem for e bikes in general as most up trails are not that steep. The only way to find steep is to ride a DH track the wrong way. This is obviously not a good idea in most situations. I timed the bikes downhill as I had to go down to come up, so I might as well. I also wanted to see if the bikes were a similar speed without the motor, which they were. Yes, it would be nice if redbull flew me to the Italian Alps with two identical bikes with just different motors, but hey, we live in the real world.
@rogermiles1655Ай бұрын
OK new question, I see that you have Continental kryptotal on the red one and Swable not sure which ones, my question is what are your thoughts on both and how do they differ?
@bestdayevermtb2Ай бұрын
I was running Argotals front and back and they were excellent in muddy conditions but not so good on hard dry conditions. The kryptotal is a faster roller tire and is only a 2.4. The exonic has Eddy currents on it. I have struggled with these in wet conditions but they are good in all other conditions. The rear is a 2.8 so a big tire but great for grip when climbing steep stuff. Why my tire choices? The exonic came with the Schwalbes and I got given some Contis to try when I was on the orange bike. Hope that helps😊

It may appear like I poop money but the reality is I am very careful with money. One of the perks of having a youtube channel is getting access to nice bikes and riding kit. If Nicolai wants to send me a bike I would love to review it. Saying that I have made 1 to 2 videos every week for 6 years. Not an easy way to get a few freebies.😂

This is a comparison of noting different bikes this is carbon vs aluminium fox vs rock shox and the race motor have the race modes that is faster
@bestdayevermtb2Ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, but not sure what you are trying to saying. Are you saying the bikes are too different so the motor comparison is invalid? The fact that on a track where the motor was not a factor the bikes were effectively the same speed shows this not to be the case.
@WimbelderАй бұрын
@ oké but bikes are not the same that wil make a difference But you did not use te race motor to te max use the race modes it is special to the cx race motor

@porroco I really appreciate feedback and comments on my videos, but I am struggling a little to understand what you are trying to say. I have no idea what a crystal cyclist is? The Bosch CX motor has traditionally always had a rattle noise in the motor. The Gen 5 has removed that. Is that not a good thing? I am a bit confused.
