Watched your other reviews on DJI avinox's motor. Super impressed with the power of the motor, 850 watts of peak power is definetly ground-breaking.
@ricardorodrigues3508Ай бұрын
not really, you have bafang m560 doing 1500w and the m620 doing 2500w, but the more power you have the heavier the motor and less range as it drains battery, so at some point you need 1000wh battery to do like 30km, and a 30kg bike, the sweet spot is balance, i think yamaha pw x3 has nailed it, powerful motor with tiny form factor and weight
@sergioLz1232 ай бұрын
I've been following DJI for a while now, always been a fan of its drones. When I hear about them releasing a bike, I was super excited. And now with the Amflow bike on the market, I know for sure that DJI never disappoints. 1000 W of power for 30 seconds just blows my mind!

The Yamaha PW3 is basically silent 85nm. Natural smooth delivery. Very little over run. Love it!!

I never remove my battery, and love that companies like Orbea and Rocky Mtn have been able to opimize the design of the Emtbs, and keep them lighter weight, by NOT having the removable battery.

It's always great to see different kinds of tests across different motors and brands. The range and battery tests kind of put me off tho. I did some research believe DJI Avinox has one of the highest torque power of 105Nm. Plus the test didn't take into account the weight and tire pressure of bike.

Great Video Sam. Love it when I get an Upload Alert! Next time can you add a "distance" graph too, so we can see which motor/battery went the furthest? RE: Batteries. Due to the climate in S.Wales, I think I would need to bring the bike in the house if there's a cold snap: 1) I don't have the space, 2) the Mrs would not be happy. With a removable battery, I could keep it in the house and leave the bike in the shed. The thing is, most the EMTBs I like have them integrated.

Internal battery, please. *for potentially higher frame strength combined with lower frame weight and arguably better looking designs. Aside from this the design and build complexity of the battery compartment, latches and cover are additional costs. *All batteries are removable, some being more difficult to remove than others. Yes, the convenience of external/cavity mounted vs internal batteries is obvious. What’s not discussed is frame flex, strength and weight of each mounting style. I don’t fly my bike ever, so I don’t need the convenience of externality mounted batteries. I own only one internal battery and ‘might’ buy a range extender (or two) for🎉 exceptionally long rides.

You are one of few presenters who calls this new motor gen5 (luckily, don'tget why most of presenterscalls it Gen4 updated)... non-removable battery is no go for me. My bike garage is without heating. I don't want to store my battery at the freezing temperature. But I fully understand that this is lot less problem in Spain 😂 edit... I need sub 20kg bike for my roof top bike rack. Without battery is OK.

Thanks rider! Yes it’s very strange to me how this is not a gen 5 motor, it’s a new casing, new internals, small and lighter and different mounting points! So in my book it’s a gen 5! Thanks for chiming in on the battery, yes I totally get that so it’s a fair point.
@Descent4love2 ай бұрын
Removable Battery! 1. For maintenance cuz batteries go bad and 2. for me I dual purpose my bikes (not all). So I'll change tires and pump up the suspension and run gravel and road events. And when the event is 62+ miles (100K) or more, I have to carry an extra battery to swap. So, I look forward to the new 800 Bosch battery for increased range and that its smaller and weighs less! And Cube is great bike company! While other companies are closing factories and/or exiting the market, Cube has a FULL line up of 2025 Ebikes on their website NOW based on the Bosch Gen 5! And all with removable batteries! Cube has it together.
@Nomads_Rowing2 ай бұрын
Hi Sam, What is the official line from Bosch as apparently it’s not a Gen5 but another upgrade to the Gen4 internally with gear material and sound reduction at the crank plus exterior face lift and don’t class as a Gen5? Your deep dive tests have been a really good approach to emtb over other channels - i.e real world and back to back - top job ya Aussie emtb battler 😎
@SamsBikes2 ай бұрын
Thanks 🙏 legend! I’m not sure why Bosch are trying to down play a new motor. The new motor, has different externals and internals, different mounting points and a total different pedal stroke feel! So it’s 100% a gen 5 in my book.
@Nomads_Rowing2 ай бұрын
Exactly my thoughts especially after Shimano sorted out their firmware to improve the 801 as Specialized are hovering in the background with the next generation of their bikes and motor!
@BlackFlag942 ай бұрын
For range tests, can you do a variant of yours whereby you simulate a group ride. I.e. you ride at the pace of the slowest in the group and therefore some bikes will be in lower power modes. This may mean that rider A on system 1 can do 800m VAM in their full boost mode.... but rider B on system 2 doesn't need to be in boost to do the same VAM and therefore increases their range
@SamsBikes2 ай бұрын
That’s a good idea

With Bosch Gen 5 - removable so you could swap from 600 Wh to 800 Wh (e.g. Crestline) if your frame can handle the width of the 800 Wh. And as you mention, makes travel easier as you could potentially rent a battery.
@JorenMathews2 ай бұрын
Have you considered trying to match assist levels? The DJI presumably would gain range if you turned it down to match the other motors.
@Stockfish15112 ай бұрын
Gen 4 on my rail has never run out. Im usually dead before it runs out. I have done like 4 hours in turbo mode and it got about 60 km and it was at around 10 percent battery left. 750W battery and im about 100 kilo myself. I think you are dead tired way before it runs out. Im big guy and very fit. But still cant manage to drain it. I think when you pedal hard and reach motors peak limited speed, the energy it uses becomes less because you are pedalling even though its at the speedlimit and the battery is then saved instead burning your own leg power. It might be the reason why i can get it to 60km without the bike being drained.

While the non removable removable battery can be a pain in the butt. It can have it's advantages and maybe worth it in some cases as well the fact that you can actually remove it just involves more time, skill and tools ( not something you want to have to on the regular).
@emilysona2 ай бұрын
I don’t mind if a battery is removable or integrated, but a removable one is definitely better for those who travel with their bikes, as large batteries aren’t allowed on flights. On the other hand, integrated batteries provide a stiffer frame, which is a nice advantage. So, both options have their benefits.

Regarding the new Gen 5 motor, I’m sure it’s an excellent upgrade with many improvements. However, it’s disappointing that the distinct pickup and powerful push of the Gen 4 motor is gone in the Gen 5. This "kick" was what made the Gen 4 motor popular worldwide, especially for racing and general riding. It would be great if Bosch could add an option via firmware to bring back this characteristic, maybe as a setting called "CX-4" or "Gen 4 Mode." Shimano motors are being phased out of many bikes, so changing the motor's feel to resemble theirs may not be the best direction. Keeping that unique Gen 4 push would definitely be appreciated by riders around the world. I hope Bosch considers this feedback.

Absolutely agree but in other reviews it has been reported to have a more powerful feel just smoother and don’t forget there an update on the way with increased torque that should help and also it’s still adjustable with in the app so you maybe able to increase the feel thro that 👍
