The Brittany Spaniel - Pet Dog Documentary English

The Brittany is a breed of gun dog bred primarily for bird hunting. Although it is often referred to as a Spaniel, the breed's working characteristics are more akin to those of a pointer or setter. Brittanys were developed in the Brittany province of France between the 17th and 19th centuries, becoming officially recognized early in the 20th.
Character: Active, untiring and versatile, very reliable in work.
Particularity: The Chiens d' Oysel, undoubtedly the ancestors of all the modern Breton breeds, were always kept for hunting with a filet, a kind of heavy net used in the middle ages to capture small game, either animals or birds, which was thrown over the game and the crouching dogs. -

The Brittany is no longer recognized as a spaniel (flushing dog) and is a pointing breed. American Brittany's have slightly different confirmation standards (taller, less pronounced stop, and no black coat/nose allowed in AKC) and most of these appear to be French (Bretons) UKC standards.

I live in the state of Indiana in the usa on the ohio river....I had pair of Brittney spaniels growing up...their names where rocky and annie......good dogs..

Sin animo de querer disgustar a nadie pero los "EPAGNEUL BRETON" es una raza de origen francés, tanto hayan nacido en un u otro país. Los "spaniel" en Europa son otra raza de perros de algo mas de tamaño y utilizados para el levantamiento de las piezas de caza. El nombre de "EPAGNEUL" es una particularidad o sinónimo en francès e esta raza, en la acción de agacharse al efectuar la muestra.

I was told the dog I took in is a spaniel heeler mix,looked up the breed..and nooo does not look like it.now my dog does look like this Brittany Spaniel but with a tail.

@@Eliv537 Well, they are 2 totally different breeds. A Brittany isn't even a spaniel. It's a pointing dog. If you do 10 minutes with of googling the breed standards or just looking at them on google imagines you will see they don't look any more alike than a Beagle does to a Basset hound

Sorry, asking my dog to be a retriever as well is ludicrous. He’s a heck of a pointer and goes to point like crazy and holds on point amazingly well. He’ll hold a point for as long as it takes and I’ve seen him hold for almost 10 minutes while we got up to where he was. Retrieve? Yeah, don’t count on it. I really think his attitude is, “I found it, you shot it, you go get it”. He’s a heck of a pointer with a great nose, regardless of what the BS JR hunter stuff says. The US jr hunter group is full of crap. They put Brits up against GSH and such and expect them to perform the same. They also do it in 90 plus degree weather...total bullcrap. My dog will outhunt any of their so called “certified dogs”. It’s all BS as far as I am concerned here in Oregon. Even his breeder was an ass regarding him. My dog will hunt up birds as well as any in Oregon and will obey me as well....which even his breeder knows did not work as well on his own dogs. It’s all a matter of knowing your dog and knowing how they will perform. My dog works the field amazingly well, so much that I may end up having to take him in to get his eyes flushed from all the seeds. He purely loves to hunt birds.

Since 1984, Spaniels and Brittneys were separated due to the dna finds. My French is NOT a Spaniel. Stelly is a black and white.

The AKC dropped the term "Spaniel" due to hunting characteristics, not DNA. The Brittany is simply more of a pointer then a flusher . . .There is no DNA standard for spaniels or pointers, or working dogs, or any other "type" of dog. Additionally, there is no DNA delta between "French" and "American" Brittany's.
