Marseille is currently the battleground for ruthless gangs vying for control of the lucrative drug market. The economic stakes are immense, with drug trafficking generating over thirty million euros monthly, intricately woven into the local economy. Real estate investments, money laundering, luxury boutiques, sports clubs, beauty salons - every sector reaps the benefits. Slowly but surely, the drug trade has engulfed the entire city of Marseille.
Over the past few months, we closely followed the efforts of the Marseille police, the Anti-Narcotics Office, and specialized squads dedicated to disrupting the drug trade. The heart of the city hosts around two hundred points of sale for illegal drugs, some raking in as much as 100,000 euros daily. The Marseille police are resolute in dismantling this network; in just the first half of 2021, they apprehended 8,000 drug traffickers, 60% of whom were armed with weapons, often military-grade.
These gangs have transformed the northern neighborhoods of Marseille into crime empires. To comprehend the inner workings of these organizations, we met with some of their members. Operating within highly hierarchical structures, they are managed like legitimate businesses. However, death is an ever-present companion, and among the extensive list of casualties, many are innocent civilians. For the families who have lost loved ones, the pain is unending - they are the collateral victims of an increasingly bloody gang war in Marseille.

Only a minority of murders are carried out with bullets here in Europe. The authorities don’t like to talk about it but a lot of murders are done with knifes, hand-grenades and especially torture, like the kid in the documentary that was put in the trunk of a car and than was burned alive. That kind of shit is much more common than bullets.

It always surprises me how desensitized ive become to culturally entrenched crime and violence as an american. I start watching this and laughed out loud when they said 15 murders in 3 months cuz where i live we will have 15 murders every 3 weeks and im in a smaller mid size city, u go to places where the hoods be blazing infernos like la or chicago and 15 murders can happen in a single weekend. The violence and ignorance is soo just casual and common it becomes surreal and you start to forget how not normal it is to be used to that level of violence outside of a warzone. I literally had someone threaten to kill me last week mistaking me for someone that robbed his stuff after rollin up on me with a rifle in the passenger seat. After w bit of drama i talked him down and went separate ways. I told my friend a few days later and she was shoked like omg u didnt call the police what if he goes and kills someone and im just like ::shrug:: what can i do? Man america is fucked 🤦not that anyone should be ok with any level of violence in their community, but i dont think they realize how bad things could be in france, and should probably appreciate whatever security you can find there and take steps to make sure things dont get worse, cuz it gets a LOT worse believe me. Right now were trying to keep things in America from turning into mexico kinda violence. And it feels like a losing battle.

That's not even mentioning the schools. I'd only ever consider moving to the states unless it was in the middle of nowhere with beautiful surroundings. @Bj-en1qx
@Bj-en1qx 5 ай бұрын
@@funhousebaby3104 yah i mean gangster shit is the same no matter where u live there are people who simply have no limits to what they will do for $ or control. But society sets the limits on the level of violence that can happen before the public has had enough. Ive been seeing the signs and they dont signal improvement in america. Past few years not only has violent crime gotten worse but also petty crime as well. A culture of lawlessness when it comes to like robbery and theft and drug dealing eventually turns into casual violent crime. If you face no consequences for smaller crimes it conditions for behaviors to lean into worse crimes. Ive noticed that cartels are having a presence in the states more and more, and while they know they cant operate here the same way as they do south of the border, they are conscripting local street gangs same as they do down south and the result from that relationship has been more gang violence. The only difference is that things are gonna get much worse much more quickly here because the more associates and members of carrels that are established here in the states, the more violence will increase because the members here will be responsible and have more autonomy to solve problems, less of the organizations money will have to be smuggled across borders and will remain as liquid assets for criminal activity here, and the most obvious part, there is literally zero barriers in accessing enough black and even grey market weapons with limitless capital to arm as many soldiers and enforcers as they can find. And the economy for average middle class folks is crumbling, and poor people have always had the shit end of the stick here, and its not gettin any easier to feed your kids and keep a roof overhead so thats going to drive increasing numbers of people towards criminal activity. And the solutions are soo clear to see plain as day, there needs to be more, better paying jobs, affordable housing, and the drug war needs to end completely. But if you task our leaders on how to solve inflation, runaway housing costs, or even the mere mention of legalizing drugs, the only thing that they do is point fingers or rely on the same solutions that have always failed in the past. (Anyone thats a foreigner is probably wondering why not get rid of all the guns, 😂 but any american already knows thats the fastest way to find an end to your career in politics) Everyone hates the idea of legalized drugs, but i cant imagine any other potential solution that will cutoff funding to violent criminal organizations, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, divert billions from flowing to criminals in foreign nations and back into circulation in our own economy, and be a tsunami of tax revenue that can be used to fund police, education, social and health programs, etc. And the most frustrating part is the overall national political narrative from leaders is that we want to stop the flow of illegals (who ironically are fleeing poverty caused by US foreign policy and violence from drug cartels that are serving US markets) save lives and stop violence. But the most obvious step that can be taken is an unimaginable non start. Sadly its gonna get worse before it gets better. Americans simply cant manage to compromise or make sacrifices of their virtues for the sake of reason, no matter what the greater potential benefit.

It is, oh racist one. However when you push people into "subsidised housing" and then leave them without education or jobs, they will have to resort to drugs for escape and crime as a means of making money. Socioeconomics are always a factor. Legalise drugs and invest into better education and job opportunities. Ofcourse that takes more effort than blaming any person that is not white enough, actually doing things like a man is hard. Just talking and playing the victim like a little boy, that is easy.

There's a time & place for everything, especially diversity. If ur cooking a meal, a diverse variety of spices is a strength; but it's still important to recognize the boundaries and not use too much of any of them. That, however, does not mean diversity is always a strength. No one would suggest it makes a marriage stronger if the husband keeps a diverse variety of sex partners, that's absurd; and no one would call his wife racist and ignorant for pointing out how diversity ruined their marriage. Just because diversity can be a strength doesn't mean it isn't also a grave detriment when there's too much of it in the wrong places.

@@alexsmart5452 There aren't any. You are not making any point there at all. In countries where guns are legal, there is nothing to stop them from being used for crime. In countries where guns are illegal, the law stops any crimes being committed by legal guns, because there aren't any legal guns, only illegal ones. In countries where law abiding citizens are allowed to have guns, a large percentage of those people then go on to commit gun crime, or there firearms become involved in gun crime. In countries where law abiding citizens are not allowed to have guns, law abiding citizens don't have guns, because to do so would be illegal. So you immediately remove that large percentage of gun crime mentioned above. In all countries, you will always have people who, within a split second, switch from law abiding citizen to criminal. How would legalising drugs help? It wouldn't. Cigarettes are legal, yet there is still a blackmarket for them. Criminals deal in everything and anything, because they are driven by laziness and greed.Criminality is a spectrum. Many " law-abiding" people are petty criminals.

interesting question. Weed has become legal here in many parts of the states and now is providing lots of local jobs and income for and selling a product that people have to get a medical card to purchase. honestly lots of money is being made and tax revenue is coming in from a former illegal item. In other parts of the nation millions of legal dollars are being made and improving lots of communities. As a nation that tried to ban alcohol in the past we have learned that on this and the beverage issue if the government over sees it then tax money can be raised to help those who have needs. That is my main thought I guess. Not perfect but it seems to be a better option then the current one in many places. Cops have to much to worry about as do innocent citizens and addicts.@@peterwillson1355

Think what happen to these officers' jobs if drugs are no longer a problem? Not just the officers the judges, and the lawyers, they all lose their jobs, sure there are a lot of ways to stop it harsh sentences like 10 to 20 years for dealing and 5 to 10 years for possession, getting prisoners to do hard work outside where everyone can see them, a deterrent is the answer, but they don't do it because like I said they lose their jobs.

@@peterwillson1355 Yes, it absolutely doesn't work: The number of smokers is sinking every year due to better preventive measures (that are typically not done with illegal substances) and the amount of illegaly sold cigarettes is around 8% in the EU. For Comparison, 100% of the weed, cocaine, heroin etc are sold illegaly and these markets are growing. Also don't say that lazyness is the main factor leading to criminality. I come from a very privileged area and basically all the people I know from there found good jobs, no matter how spoiled they were by their parents and how lazy they are. However other people I know from other areas like the friends of my GF, who mainly come from romania and moldova struggle to find jobs and places in the universities.

@ sandwich5344. It’s the same structure here in the US and most likely everywhere. The big ones shelter themselves from risk. When I worked in social services I found that middle level dealers found slow minded disabled youngsters to sell drugs at street level for them so that the disabled kids would get arrested instead of them. We’d become aware of it because we had to stop the disability benefits while the kids were in jail until they got out due to regulations. You can’t have two different government sources paying for your services at the same time without there being conflicts and in-kind support.
