In May 2016, the renowned elephant researcher Ian Redmond is unexpectedly attacked by an angry elephant in the middle of a Kenyan mountain forest. He survives and his injuries mostly heal. But what remains is the question: Why did the matriarch he calls Kali attack him?
Since the 1980s, Ian Redmond has been researching an unusual and endangered elephant population in the Mount Elgon area. This population, of which the matriarch Kali is a member, consists of savannah elephants that have adapted to living in the mountain forests, where they are now isolated after humans took their surrounding habitat away from them. The animals seek out hidden caves at night to chisel mineral-rich volcanic rock off the walls with their tusks, thereby expanding these subterranean salt-mines into enormous chambers. This underground behaviour is unique among elephants.
What is behind this mysterious mining activity of the animals? Ian Redmond desires nothing more than to meet Kali again. In his search of her, he comes closer to answering the question of why she attacked him and to uncovering the secrets of the cave elephants.
Original Title: Ian Redmond - The Ally of the Cave Elephants

elephants are some of the most intelligent creature our planet has and they as still so unknown just how intellectual they are. By studying them and realizing what it is they are doing we can definitely learn more. We will learn nothing by killing them, or removing them from their free roaming lives. They are travelers and do not belong in a cage!

For those of us who love the toughest ways to school series....the one they did about the kids having to cross the Savannah in Africa...they repeatedly said they fear the elephants more than any of the other animals. These are people that know the species well...elephants clearly are prone to attacking humans. They are fascinating animals but i would fully expect to be attacked if i were seeking them out to observe.

I felt very sad hearing him articulate his hopes for the furture, knowing that if the poachers don't kill the elephants, climate change will. One way or another, humans have found a way to desecrate this planet, to show utter ignorance and even hostility towards the grace that we have been blessed with. It will not end well..

If you check out the Jabulani herd, you'll see that it is often the females who are the most reactionary and VIOLENT. The lead males are cautious, study the threat, and THEN go to war. The males of the Jabulani herd are the ones who go forward in a friendly social way to welcome tourists. Sebakwe, the lead male, has even been used for a liquor ad campaign . He is a beautiful, cooperative elephant. Tokwe, the matriarch, is a sweet motherly lady with the youngsters of the herd. She is a wonderful grandmother. Unless she thinks there might be the tiniest, most vague whisper of a possible threat to the children. At that point, she goes RABID! Anything in her way is PASTE! She will not be reasonable. Sebakwe and his " counselors" have to rush over and calm her down.

A great deal. Especially as human populations grow and encroach on habit and cut off corridors used by animals to migrate during the changing seasons. This isn't just an elephant, Africa thing. It's a world wide issue that deals with multiple species. Everything from butterflies, bison, elk, bears, to elephants. If you ever hunted, or observed and studied critters, you'd know. Their habitats can span a few miles to well in excess of hundreds or thousands of miles. Having a good understanding can prevent urban/suburban sprawl. That reduces habitat or cuts off critical corridors, thus increasing human/animal confrontation. Farming another issue of mono culture. It's either a picnic basket for some or a death sentence to many species.

I believe the lifecycle of the eel is still up for debate. The value of anything, to anyone, is as much of a personal concept as it is not something that any single person has a right to decide. The elephants, live among the locals in some cases. Animals don't always leave human's alone. What is left to know? Ignorance begets ignorance. How do you verify the accuracy of any single piece of information when, through age, time and mistranslation, the bible and other religious texts are bastardised and watered down over time? I challenge you to live your life in the 1950's and see how relevant and useful the information we had back in them days really is and was. An Elephant is like a dog, if you believe in animal psychology. Smart enough to understand if it's actions are necessary, right or wrong. The border collie, smart enough to obey for long enough to do whatever it wants anyway once you turn around. The Elephant may choose the path of least resistance, or something else entirely. I don't think anyone has yhe
@uselessindividual
@uselessindividual 4 ай бұрын
KZbin shadowbanned my comment. I think. The accuracy of any information is questionable at best. Get by life using your 1950’s Encyclopaedia Britannia, it will be as useful as it is outdated. You want to know what left to know, eels, bro. Eels.
