00:00 Borneo has one of the last primary forests in Southeast Asia.
A treasure that makes the fortune of forestry operations. Loggers and drivers come from all over Indonesia to seek the best wages in the country, slaughtering with all their might. Dangerous work carried out under extreme conditions. Massive deforestation has disfigured the region to the point of endangering the wildlife and indigenous peoples who live there. Borneo, the fourth largest island in the world, has become the symbol of this unequal struggle against the big companies which exploit its wealth to the detriment of its inhabitants, its fauna and its flora.
03:08 The island is shared by Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei
04:50 All Borneo inhabitants are armed
10:42 According to tradition, every tree shelters a spirit
13:10 Once a head-chopping tribe, now a peaceful one
13:59 Ali sells birds on the market to earn a living
19:48 Borneo is facing an ecological disaster: the island has lost 85% of its primary forest.
21:05 The wood from this forest is considered the hardest in the world.
24:24 With the rains, he has to drive on a muddy road
28:11 In the Derawan archipelago, the inhabitants hope that the search for oil will not destroy the archipelago.
32:37 The inhabitants of this archipelago are called sea gypsies.
35:30 With his load of wood, the road becomes perilous
41:00 To transport the logs, they float them
44:55 But sometimes the forest reclaims the land, erasing all human traces.

I'm Indonesian and I live in East Java... Maybe, I'm one of the first Indonesian watch this... 😂 For me, deforestation is very bad for our country... Mr. Jokowi and Presidents before him has try many ways to stop this, but, the company who depends on the wood price, still doesn't going to jail... So the deforestation still going on and on... The goverment also try many ways to make the ecosystem in those lake, those forest, and in that island become stable meanwhile remains the national interest in plywood and tourism... I wish could do it, but, I just a High School Student, so I can't do anything than give comments, criticism, and support... Thanks to this channel to upload about this deforestation and ecosystem problems... God bless you all...

What a harsh Irony! The families and children they suffer to try to give a better life will be the ones to repercussions of these exploitation! Another irony is that these poor folks who suffer the most hardship for the least share of the cumulative value of these resource, are the most aware of the impending risks and yet have the least power to do anything about it.

I watched a piece about a pretty new company in America that buys companies with the intention on selling at a future point, for profit. Mostly manufacturing companies I believe. But when they do sell, they give all of the employees a substantial piece of the profit, depending on the time they've been there. Regular workers were getting like 20k-400k checks. Was really interesting. KKR is the name.

Many will judge us but we have to work and living to support our family Many people working at logging don't even have school, for me i don't even finish high school The pay maybe small compared to Western countries but for us that is enough We all know that we are killing the forest but if you do nott work you cannot eat Right now more than 80% company have been closed because there is no tree to cut and almost all the forest have been turn to palm plantation

It is depressing that they are ruining their world's wildlife . It is depressing that the chainsaw is also ruining their world and the creatures that live there . As the start of the film said , mankind is the worlds worst predator , and everything else suffers , including us !!

Mustafa Af actually those aren’t even their roads those are the roads that the loggers built to gain access to more isolated areas so they can do more damage and no one can see them

Ah, you know nothing about wood. So, just shut up. Only need 10 years to grow teak wood. And not one century. This is the strongest wood in the world.

Видно что парень жгёт сцепление крайне предельно 0:37. Двигатель и коробка работают на износ. Заявляю как механик тяжелой техники. Водитель не делай сильных рывков когда опускаешь сцепление и твой двигатель проживет ещё очень долго.

So, this documentary is about part of Borneo which is Indonesia right? You gives me some confusion there for a moment. Cause another part of Borneo which belongs to Malaysia, they are trying to minimise timbers cutting but replanting more trees. Or so I heard.
