I really appreciate this. As a Muslim in Malaysia I've always wondered what our neighbors in the north eat. As there is very little chance of me ever stepping foot in Vietnam, this is like a window into their culture and you dont really see people showing this angle. You probably dont even read most of the comments here but if you do happen to come across this one, from the bottom of my heart I would like to say, thank you.

@Enforcedcraft
@Enforcedcraft Жыл бұрын
Wallahi Akhi you are better then this. Don't buy into the pescatarian as it really deprives your body of Important stuff cause you can see studies done by independent researches that said that our way of eating meaning all food should be eaten(they intook all dietary options like Keto, Vegan, Vegetarian etc.) as all food has its benifits, Dairy gives us Protein and Carbs, Animal product as well bigger protein portions and other stuff. I will not go into the detail as Its too long to explain but really depriving yourself from any meat is just gonna lead you to chug pills for the missing Vitamins and stuff that is needed to your body. I'm not saying never do it but just so you know.

You should do one of the Cham Muslims in Cambodia-- connected by ethnicity but food culture is a different story. Again, thanks for preserving a small part of it with your video.

There are also Chams in Malaysia states of Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu in Malaysia's Eastern side of the Peninsular. They came here in few waves, firstly during the downfall of the Cham states to the Viet during 15th to16th century and secondly in 20th century during Vietnam War and Pol Pot aggressions in Cambodia. The first wave of Cham already mixed with the local Malays, but the second wave in the 20th century still retain the language and culture of Cham.

When he was cooking the curry, I was like, that's basically how we malays cook curry. Probably because the Cham people are also considered as Malay too. And then you said, "It reminds me of Malaysian food." Well, spot on!

I think it's South East Asian thing that people don't have too much problem with each ethnicity or religion. Like here in Indonesia, maybe there is bad comment here and there in social media, but mostly all the time people rather civil. Maybe because in our culture we really dont want to confront others and tend to take things less seriously. I mean SEA people really known for their laidback-ness

Not long ago, in 1998 your fellow people did a horrible massacre of Chinese people, I see a lot of disgusting images of women were raped and killed, children were burnt to death. Amongst SEA, Indonesians are less tolerate of religion differences than other countries

Yeah right! If I remember correctly there was a discrimination toward Chinese in Indonesia, the last uprising was in 1998…not too far past… How about the genocide that the Khmer rouge did in Cambodia? How abou in Myanmar? Let’s be honest Southeast Asia is not heaven… There are diversities everywhere, not to mention each country is totally different from one another be it: ethnics, languages, cultures, traditions, and religions… let’s accept the fact we are not the same… it’s just an umbrella made up by the West in labeling a region that was once colonized by the West, except for Thailand…

Fun fact: The Cham people are Austronesians, meaning they are more closely related to Malays, Indonesians, and Filipinos. They're an ancient race: their language is the oldest attested Austronesian language, with a written record dating to the fourth century AD.

One of the earliest proof of Islamic existence in Indonesia was cham's princess graveyard from 11/12 century. Sure we have many relations with them in the past. Good video Sonny! CMIIW
