I've been using one of these for a few days and I have to say that it's a very capable unit for the price. I have little interest in the recording features, but I'm finding this device useful for locating animals at night. The useful range is a little better than expected, and in good weather I can (barely) identify pigs, deer and cows at more than 500 yards. I will add a second IR illuminator, clamped to the WG-50 picatinny rail, and should be able to see even longer distances. My biggest gripe so far is the annoying useless green reticle that is shown in the center of the display when using this system at night. It gets in the way while trying to resolve grainy details at longer ranges, and I have not yet found a way to get rid of it. This complaint aside, this WG-50 seems to offer pretty good performance at this price level. I have a Sightmark Wraith night vision scope that produces a sharper image, but that system costs more than twice as much as the Bestguarder unit.

@@radarwarrior5459 The torch is IR, and the camera in this unit picks up the IR illumination at fairly long distances. I don't know about the app, because I only use this to find animals at night.

@@peteduncan921 try using an external IR torch! It can't see it plus you're lucky if high drain batteries lasts any longer than 10 minutes on full charge. It's not worth it's money.

You have three ways to watch your recordings. You can watch on the display screen of the unit, you can take the micro sd card and put it into a computer to watch or you can view through the app.

You can playback photos or videos by pressing and holding the ‘IR’ button for a few seconds (do this with the device powered on). To play a video once in playback mode press ‘REC’ button 👍

Thanks for watching. You must connect your smartphone to the night vision via WiFi emitted by the night vision. Open your phone’s WiFi settings and connect to the night vision. After connecting open the app and you should be good to go 👍

That looks similar to my Boblov, very cool! I like the ergonomic design. I've had many times I was scoping out evildoers, license plates, and other long periods of holding the unit as still as possible. I have to say that your channel is one of the few that thoroughly tests, reviews, examines, etc. products. I really appreciate the work you put into each product. Too many channels hold up an item in the package and stand there like a bobblehead. Wow, that is very impressive footage! :O I really like this greyscale IR over my unit's wonky purple/pink hues. Those daylight shots are great as well. Your distance test is superb! I wonder if the dark colored hoodie is bright because of the heat emitted from his torso. That one negative is a bummer, but as you mentioned editing software should be able to correct that. If I had to replace my unit this would definitely be worth it. I unfortunately have missed out on so much great content from your channel and everyone I sub to. I have spread myself thin like butter on toast. Also getting mad at KZbin and not going on my accounts for a while put me way behind. I'm glad I came by and watched this video. Great work man!

It looks like you could attach a different IR illuminator to the rail on the left side to get better long range visibility. In that configuration, you would probably be holding the unit with two hands like binoculars.

Great review, Dave. Does the WiFi work through thick wooded areas? You were mostly in clear fields and I was wondering how WiFi connectivity holds up. Curious as to what distance WiFi will work. Full-watch and this is a neat piece of equipment. Kudos to son running in the field and back. I think I would have found the tree the hard way (smile).

The WiFi should work up to 50’ to 60’ away, but in reality because you’re gonna be closer to the unit while operating it because of changing the focus, IR intensity etc. Where I could imagine the greater distance being useful would be if one person is running the monocular and a second person would be “viewing” the action through the app and WiFi. Thanks for checking out my review. BTW, I would have tripped in the dark, let along run out of steam long before I made it out to the cones and back! 🤣😂🤣

At 320 metres it looks much brighter than in the monocular (350 yards) at the night, so yeah. But it's a shame I cannot mount it like some goggles but performance is performance

@@HuntingFarmerOfficial Ok so this is what I saw from both your videos NV-900 is best as being a spotter, has a higher light sensitivity and overall better recording features (along with bigger illuminator) The WG-50 plus has 20MP instead of 5 MP on the WG-50 and NV-900. It has worse recording features but it has 5k photos (specs say that), and also can be mounted on guns or helmets, BUT, the sensitivity of light is much lower and the IR is much weaker since it uses 4 AA batteries instead of the 8 batteries in the NV-900. I also noticed the huge grainy stuff in the WG-50, in which deters me, so I'd like an opinion or comparison between them both, like record a camera on how you would see inside it, because the recording feature isn't very reliable. @@mikealphin field of view is how much of the picture is in frame at a specified distance. The greater the field of view, the more you see! Field of view will not affect stability of the picture/video. The samples were from a tripod. This unit would also be jittery without a tripod unless you have very steady hands 😁

You can see some IR (seen as a very faint red glow and you have to really look for it to be able to see it) Some cameras have “black” IR and that is supposed to be invisible to the human eye.
