BetaFPV Lite Radio 3 ExpressLRS Review

Just getting into FPV I parked my FrSky X9D Plus and picked up a Jumper T18 Pro V2, loaded EdgeTX so I could use the touch screen then decided I needed something simple that I didn't have to tinker with every time I wanted to fly. OpenTX and EdgeTX are great for everything and today's radios have enough channels to remote control complex "Airplane/boat/helicopter/robotic things" but with that technology comes complexity. This simple device can be ordered with only ELRS (ExpressLRS) and setup to bind with all your ELRS models in seconds, no more hunting for adapters and instructions and the magic decoder ring (FrSky) for RX/TX protocols. The sweet spot is it works as a controller with Liftoff! My only compliant is the price of the case, almost half the cost of the Lite Radio 3. BetaFPV should look into accessorizing the Lite Radio 3 with CNC gimbals, LEDs for the gimbals, colored units and Skin / Sticker /Decal 'stuff'. Nice review Dave_C FPV, Thanks!

I love it! While everyone is reviewing Zorro and the Jumper T-Pro, here you are checking out the BetaFPV Lite radio 3. Good job from diverting away form the group of sheeps! I have the Lite radio 2 which I have been using with sims and its great!

👍🏼 you can slap a crossfire mod on the back of this and have the best of both worlds I am so worn out with all the jumper and zorro tish lol then on you of it the jumper with elrs is faulty!!!! Smh this is a cheap and reliable radio I have the lite 2 and it hasn't let me down and tx12 for my everyday ✌🏼

@@scu-dub My daily is the Jumper T8SG V2 carbon edition - lol. It works with Crossfire and ELRS. About 4 months ago I purchase the TBS Mambo thinking that I would get rid of my Jumper and be at par with the big boys. Man was I wrong. The unit got bricked on first attempt to flash new firmware. TBS jumped in to help, but whatever we tried, it didn't work.

@@FlyturboKwad damn man sorry to hear that 😣 that's what I'm scared of lol I have only been in the hobby for about a year and I'm still learning stuff my brain is melted with all the things I have learned and still have lots yet to learn but I had gotten the novice 4 bundle for my first and I didn't like the way the ufl antenna was glued down on the vtx but apparently that's how they are and 5 flights later I lost video 50 yards away😫 never saw the quad again lol I love the tx12 and the ev800dm gogs aren't bad at all but I want a "pro" style radio that I don't have to worry about upgrading for awhile and the zorro caught my eye a couple month ago and with those jumper probs I don't want the headache but I'm gonna hold off because supposedly the zorro is gonna be upgraded with all metal gimbals 🤞🏽and yeah I know....I need to upgrade to HD 😂 and I am soon elrs is going to phase out frysky I'm sure so even though I'm skeptical of all the flashing and frustrations I'm gonna have to go elrs😒lol but I still wanna have crossfire as back up ✌🏽sorry for the book but none of my buds are into fpv so I'm a loner lol

Some interesting mods on the first one where people added a small screen to it. Would be nice if anyone did it for this one as well :) Nice to have a screen for GPS coordinate logging and when you look for your quad :P

I am fairly new to the hobby and am building a quad. I bought a FRSKY XM+ receiver but unfortunately it has accst v2 instead of accst v1 and will not work with any of my current accst v1 radios (not able to upgrade the firmware- found that out the hard way). Is this radio able to bind with the accst v2 ?

Hey Dave I have a radiomaster tx12 and I was scared of elrs because of all the flashing and firmware stuff I'm not that great when it comes to computers lol but I wanted elrs because of the link quality I was going to get a module for the tx12 but after seeing what I would have to go through it scared me off so would this be a good choice over just getting a module for the tx12? Because the tx12 is a better radio as far as functionality but I just want to know from an experienced pro fpv guy 👍🏽also I see that the lite3 still has d8/16 and can except a crossfire module so it basically can have the best of all worlds lol but I have been flying fpv for a year now and really want to step into elrs to be completely honest I'm really only interested in it for the penetration I don't fly long range and I really wanted it for the rekon 4fr 😁 your thoughts would be much appreciated sorry for the book ✌🏽

Interested with this simple radio. Can we use moxon antenna with this radio ? ... I didn't see sma connector Can we update the latest firmware directly from elrs dev without have to use the configurator or awaiting for betafpv release ?

I had 2 of the Lite Radio 2 and both of them had faulty gimbals making my quad throttling unstable, maybe this is due to no hall sensor gimbals? Idk, but hopefully their QC been improved in this model

Can you still bind to only one model at a time? That was/is the main disadvantage oft this series.

Time will tell, but this sort of rubber-feel plastics usually become a sticky mess when they degrade. After a few months already, the rubber surface finish really starts to feel like a lolly melting in your hands, and finally your hands become sticky as well. As I said, only time can tell.

@@Sugalime3D_FPV my worries deemed true haha, I can not configure it in betafpv configurator. is there a binding phrase? cant get it to work with a 4.4.2 cetus x as well

And yes as you can see on that description page how to upgrade, there are comments, and it seems like binding phrase does not work yet... So I stay at ELRS 2 and wait until it will work better... But at least it looks like they are working on ELRS V3...

@@Sugalime3D_FPV reverted the fw back. For documentation purposes if your drone doesnt work: I flashed BF4.3.1 with betaflight desktop app 10.8. No idea why 10.9 wouldn't work, same goes with BF4.3.2.

If you want to use this for playing on a computer, the USB cable is on the wrong side. Who wants a usb cable coming towards you when playing.
