Hello Beth, I am making these right now.. I have an order for them for Thanksgiving and I wanted to try them out before then.. I love the dough and the smell.. I have never heard of or made these before but my husband tasted the dough and said if the cookies come out and it taste better then the dough without the rest the ingredients and baked then you have a keeper and I just took them out of the oven the first batch and they are still warm alittle and they have that crack and my husband tasted one and he said keeper and they are good.. So thanks Beth for an awesome recipe again.

hi Beth! do you think cream of tartar could be used as a substitute for baking soda in other types of cookies too?
@EntertainingWithBeth10 жыл бұрын
Sure but you should add it with the baking soda, the way this recipe reads. I will create a nice chewiness and cracked exterior. Would be great for things like a chocolate chunk cookie or peanut butter cookie :)
@ragnkja10 жыл бұрын
Not on its own as a substitute, no. The cream of tartar is what the baking soda reacts with. However, if your recipe contains baking soda, but no acidic ingredients, you need the cream of tartar to react with the baking soda.
@kashiko710 жыл бұрын
Just a quick question, is your butter room temp soft or straight from the fridge. When i made these before my batter was lose and really hard to roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture. My one year old son had these and loved them anyways.

@VionyTania10 жыл бұрын
i recommend you by doing all by hand, it's pretty easy and you have more control for doing it... i'm studying french cuisine but i do make cakes, pastries and other sweets every week and i did all my sweets from scratch by hand and they all turned out well. good luck and have fun :)
@EntertainingWithBeth10 жыл бұрын
Sure you don't need a fancy stand mixer to make these, you can really do them with a wooden spoon (like grandma did!) or an electric hand mixer would also be a step up but still affordable. I find you can get great deals on kitchen equipment at second hand stores, yard sales and for the utensils, you can't beat the 99cents store tool! I always find great things in there as well. :) Happy Cooking!

@EntertainingWithBeth10 жыл бұрын
Oh no :( OK it sounds like your oven temp may have been too high? This video explains how ovens can actually run hotter than you think they are BETH'S MID-WEEK TIP: Know Your Oven's Temperature! my other thought is that the baking soda or cream of tartar may have been expired? If these products are older than 6 months they can start to lose their effectiveness and may account for why they didn't rise up and form the cracks. Hope that helps!
@saranaehdin83739 жыл бұрын
Entertaining With Beth I tried them today again and thanks to your tip for the oven thermometer, the color is nice and chewy this time. it did rise up but still no cracks.cream of tartar is good till 2016, however I know that my baking soda should have been changed after 30 days which I didn't do it. could baking soda be the reason of not forming the cracks? Thank you for your great videos!

@BeMyVforever10 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. The term is "leavening" agent which means that the substance causes bubbles to form and I know, it sounds a lot liike lemons XD
@EntertainingWithBeth10 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not with these. Sometimes lemon juice will work in place or cream of tartar for say whipping egg whites etc, because it's the acid in the tartar that keeps the eggs stable to stiffen, and lemon juice is also acidic, but in this case when we need the tartar to act as a leavening agent the lemon juice doesn't have those properties :( So best to stick with the tartar in this case :)
