I mean I have no clue who this person is and what they went through but I’d have to assume when they joined they probably didn’t think it was a cult and it was as bad as it was, once they’re there long enough it’s kind of like a Stockholm syndrome kind of situation or trauma bonding where they don’t want to leave or feel they can’t. obviously I can’t speak for her but I’ve seen enough documentaries on these people who live religions and a lot of them say they are scared to leave or there’s a lot of abuse that goes on behind closed doors.

She doesn’t sound like a victim to me. She sounds empowered and becoming aware of what she went through. She’s not naming names or calling people out or suing. Sounds like she took responsibility and got out after she got some awareness of her situation.

Religious groups don't often take long to get their hooks into members. If you leave, it can be a big deal especially if y0u have family that remains because you may end up shunned form your whole family and social circle. If you're the women, the idea is that it's your fault for not being subservient to your spouse. It can take time to change this kind of thinking. It's not meant to make her a victim, but that she survived leaving is inspiring.
