When they said that they didn't want to work on Elder Scrolls games anymore because they wanted to "do something different" (something different being trying to scam the audience with live service abominations like Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76) all of the talented and passionate developers left. I used to have a great mod, 'Daedric Punishment for Cloud District quips'. He shot up into the sky when he said it and it was particularly good if he was under a bridge at the time. He bumped up and down like a puppet. I used to wait for the moment - go on, Nazeem, make my day.

Seriously devs, the vast majority of your customers don't care about critic reviews and you shouldn't either. The only critics you should listen to are the aggregate reviews from customers. Of course the expectations after Skyrim are near impossible to meet, this is when you go back to square one, update your dated engine and deliver an rpg experience that nobody was expecting. Also I REALLY want to play a new Elder Scrolls but if there is a single hint of a pronoun or additions "for all our trans and non-binary Rooks" I'm going to pass sorry. Either make games for everyone or make them for the modern audience, you can't have both.

Poor take. I also started with Morrowind, and although Morrowind's atmosphere, world building, lore and musical score is superior it's combat mechanics and magic system are absolute trash and it was less modifiable, which by far is the best element of Skyrim. You can appreciate both Morrowind and Skyrim, they're not mutually exclusive.

@@The13thRonin Agreed. As much as I love Morrowind and Oblivion, I pretty much just keep going back to Skyrim. I remember when Morrowind first came out and I was well into the game, whenever I would walk around I'd start doing the jump walking. Young relatives were confused and asked why I kept doing that until I told them to increase my acrobatic skill and showed them the game and they played it. Then we were all doing the jump walking goofing around. 🤣 Good times. Fun times.

Modders have been it for decades. Epic games Unreal Tournament completely relied on them extending their games. They even gave a lot of gratitude to that community back then. My favorite mod map for UT has to be Space Noxx. Love that map. Whenever I reinstall the game, that gets added first. Second favorite would be the giant sized rooms (sort of like Honey I shrunk the kids) that began with UT 2003. More fun.

2002. Morrowind is released. Daggerfall enthusiasts say its simplified and many things are removed and playable world is much smaller. But overwhelming majority of RPG and gaming enjoyers loved Morrowind and found it to be the sweetspot, with its handcrafted world being big enough to immerse yourself in it and lose yourself while exploring, and the empty RPG system with every skill being impactful and every school of magic having its representation to allow many builds and playstyles. 2006. Oblivion is released. It improves on some flaws of Morrowind, static NPCs rooted in place are replaced by radiant ai NPCs that have their daily life, lengthy textual dialog is replace with fully voiced dialog(but at the cost of complexity), world is bigger and there is horses and a unrestricted fast travel system (a simplification of Morrowinds intricate transit systems). But now voices of many RPG fans and Elder scrolls fans were saying to Todd Where are the spears? Where are the pauldrons and bracelets and complexity of armor? Why simplify magic system and reduce number of spells? Why simply weapons and group up things that should be separate? Why is there a quest marker instead of intricate directions? and many other questions directed to Todd about simplification of the RPG and removal of role playing options from the player. 2011. Skyrim is released. Todd doubles down on every simplification and removal of RPG elements and further pushes consolization and casualization of the game. Fatigue is irrelevant. Mana regenerates by itself. There is no classes. Races are superficial. There is no attributes. Armors are further simplified. Weapons are grouped even more. There is no custom spell crafting. Alchemy is irrelevant, Mysticism removed entirely. Again hardcore RPG fans joined with some part of the Elder scrolls fanbase voice concerns about this but Todd ignores them as the game is selling and lowest common denominator call of duty audience is buying it by the millions. Fallout 4 is released as a shooter with some perks tacked on. Its not a RPG. It has rudimentary dialogs and a base building system. A looter shooter with crafting for some totally other crowd. Fallout 76 was a disaster and should have been a wake up call. but it wasnt. Starfield is even further down that path. Shooter with perks, etc. So Todd has been doubling down on this path for decades. TES6 will not be a RPG. it will be like Redguard, with perks and game systems like in Starfield.

Since theyve came out and said people will be disappointed, seems like es6 will be more waterd down then skyrim was, plus the majority worry is prolly that there is a ton of dei, and modern day politics in a fantasy setting, when everyone has caught onto it. i tried to play it like a week ago and couldn't stick with it, the old school movement and combat system was just so dated i immediately said "NOPE!" Then i tried Daggerfall and did the same thing. I m going to try one of the mod versions one of these days. I cant wait for Skyblivion.

@@torcheddreadnought899 Oh yeah dude, going back to that movement and combat now is horrible. You have to know that at the time there was no standard controls for FPS games so they were making it up as they went along. Doom did a lot better job with controls but they didn't have to figure out melee combat. Arena was a really groundbreaking game in a lot of ways but hey really fumbled the controls. I think because back then it was mainly about point and click adventure games, Kings Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, stuff like that.

Pick for 9 races and 100 genders that are really just Male Nord.. Choose from 20 war paint and 100 top surgery scars! TES6 in a broken dying engine unoptimized that will kill the best PC in 3 days. 16x the detail it just works... I wont be buying or playing TES6 or Fallout 5

It's really hard to get excited for any upcoming games anymore. Because there's an almost guaranteed chance that it's gonna be mid. Or chop full of alphabet soup agenda slop. Skyrim + good modlists is even better than most RPGs which get released now. I do not know any game which can provide the kind of freedom of content the mods of Skyrim can. But maybe this will also change. If woke activists see what communities can do with mods, they try to fight mod-support for games and force just the base game with their ideologies.

I've tried to play skyrim multiple times, with mods and without it, Special Edition even, I have played The Witcher 2 the day it come out and skyrim a year later and comparing the two games I have never understood what people saw in Skyrim, I still don't to be honest, Just the intro alone in The Witcher 2 was already better than anything i have experienced in Skyrim, the fact that this guy is saying it will be hard for TES VI to surpass Skyrim is unbelivable and delusional.

I make 2 games like starfield every morning after coffee. I have said for years that Bethesda simply coasts on past successes, never putting in the money to create a new cutting edge engine, or hiring actual talent for writing engaging plots. Pay for talent like Brandon Sanderson or Naomi Novik. With the advent of AI ES6 should use LLM behind every line of NPC dialogue and in game decision making, and it might be advantageous to use text to speech with natural voices (sampled voice actors) for the in game dialogue. Hell, integrate a voice to text function into the game engine so players can speak naturally using a microphone. The fact that modders have updated Skyrim to something approaching a modern game shouldn't be a point of pride for Bethesda. Releasing a buggy mess and expecting others to patch it into a working game is low effort garbage. But, that's what everyone expects from Bethesda.

Yes Starfield was compared to something: all of Bethesda's previous games and more famously Starfield was compared to Star Citizen which proceeded to humiliate Bethesda like never before. Starfield was like a 1998 Honda Civic in front of Star Citizen. There was just no comparison and almost every single feature in Starfield, Star Citizen did better. MUCH better. What it has shown is that Bethesda's game design model has never evolved in 20 years because they have stayed complacent in the comfort zone of their sales and it's going to start biting them in the ass a whole lot harder as time goes on.

Its going to reflect very badly on Buggy Beth as after ES 6s failure everyone goes to skyblivion, skywind, or Skyfall over it. Bethesda sold out after morrowind Oblivion was above mid, but no it was not S or even A rank, it was good, but morrowind was better. Skyrim ............... just felt empty. There was 0 "life" after the first 30 hours in vanilla mode. The only thing i thought was worth glazing was blackreach, and that was basically meh and WAY to small. ES 6 wont even make Daggerfall levels of success, pronouns, a non story convined with a to b to c questlines with exactly 1 way of doing it, combine this with "enforced ethical play" and "to important to fail" really just kinda.... turns me off to it and i STILL play Daggerfall fgs (mods and vanilla) so its not the world, mechanics, or races........ its i think the mmoesque soulless replay of radiant quest, easily discernable pattern of content, repetitive dungeons (go og daggerfall and id love it), and of course microtransactions and cosmetic DLC (im guessing the pre orders get x,y, and Z exclusive (until the 1st DLC drops, then its 9.99). ES 6 needs to be a return to morrowind and Daggerfall days and if that means scrapping the current game, i cam wait 10 more years to have the modern audience crap, pronouns, and attempted coloring of ES 6 phased out completely.

All Bethesda has to do is make a game that's as open of a sand box as Skyrim, with great mechanics, story, and gameplay like Morrowind. It might seem like Oblivion when I say that, but as long as they get rid of their whiny writer, then it *might* be decent. Of course, we will never get that with modern day Bethesda.
