Not really difficult, Bethesda succumbed to the same problems a lot of developers have. Political influence and crony corporates. Fallout 4 was the space of an ocean and the depth of a puddle (probably butchered that), but I still squeezed ~3000 hours out of it because it was a fun sandbox and modders were passionate about it; similar thing applies to Skyrim. Starfield, I played for ~3 hours, saw the politics, saw the watered down fallout 4 gameplay, saw the loading screens on a modern pc, saw unstable fps between 30-60 on a 3080 in 4K, saw ESG hires yelling at me, and when I finally saw the bare naked sprawling planets... I was done. Fallout 76 had more activities and things to do at launch.

Doing that gets so boring. And then there is the lack of Player Freedom because almost every Dialogue option has the same 1-2 results regardless of how you play and it feels like a third of NPCs is just outright essential

When I first played Starfield, I really enjoyed it. Just like you described, during the honeymoon phase it seemed like a good game. But once that phase was over.. 🤢. And I think I know why that is aswell. In RPGs youre meant to be able to play them like a millions of times and keep getting different outcomes from characters, quests, endings etc. taking different routes in the story and so on. But in Starfield. There is basically no "Role Play" in this game At All. And it Especially got showed thanks to Baldur"s Gate 3 which is the best RPG that has ever come out - meanwhile Starfield is only Pretending to be an RPG. Basically there is only One specific path that you can go as a character, you cant deviate from it anyhow, in any quest, at all. Wanna be evil? You cant. Wanna kill everyone in Constellation? You cant - theyre immortal. Because in an RPG which is supposed to be about your choice, about whatever you wanna do, they Didnt wanna let you make choices. They didnt wanna let you make your story and play how you want - you can Only play it specifically how they want you to. And this shows through the Companions too - you can only romance 4 characters, in Skyrim you could romance like 50. And in Starfailed all the companions are goody-two-shoes boy-n-girl-scouts - once again, if you wanna progress theyre romance, youre Forced to be "good" or else theyll hate you. In Baldurs Gate 3 theres alot of romance options and some of them are morally-neutral, some flat out evil, so you can really be who you wanna be through the whole game and the class, race, background etc. really do change your game and how you play in Baldurs Gate. It honestly does nothing in Starfield. SF basically Pretends to be what Baldurs Gate 3 actually is. When I played Starfield the first time, I played a "good" character. So I was unknowingly playing exactly how they wanted me to. And when I finished it I thought it was nice - then when I wanted to play it again a second time, I found out that you actually cant do Anything else than what Ive been doing. And I realized how bad the game is. Also there are Factions you can join - some of which are Mortal Enemies - and you can join all of them at the same time, cuz Todd Coward wanted you to be able to "finish all quests in one playthrough". But if you do that, you take away the chance for the player to start another playthrough and see what happens if they join another faction that they couldnt join before. It would make your choices feel like they Actually matter if the faction whos an Enemy to your current faction doesnt take you in. Its also funny how in a game with Infinite Universes, they wanted you to be able to do everything in one universe... Why? What is the Actual point in going to another universe then? The ground-work was literally there. And they screwed it up. And yeah it sucks to lose everything in the new world.

It's designed so you will enjoy the first 50 hours, basically the journalists who review games probably won't test a game for more than 10 hours so it's why they get good reviews in the medias. But when you start doing NG+ runs it's were you actually realized that you will be doing the same fucking quests again and again (and maybe except for two factions they are boring).. it's fine for maybe 3-4 times but after that you become incredibly bored. There is no real exploration, 1000 boring planets with rocks and dust. Even the power temples are shit, float right, float left, float up and poof you get the power.. Seriously ? One of the things i enjoyed in Skyrim, Oblivion was exploring Ayleds Ruins, etc.. There is no such thing in Boringfield. Even the whole outpost buiding doesn't make sense, why would you build gigantic bases on many planets to craft things and spend a lot of hours in it if you lose it all in NG+ ? It's like playing Satisfactory for 500 hours and then you just erase your save game (Wtf)

Fair statement, considering bugthesda has come to rely on modders to fix their broken games lol. There isn't a single one of their titles that I actually enjoy without mods, and I'm confidence Starfield will be no different in a few years after modders have gotten their hands on it for a while.

It’s crazy how Bethesda thought it would be fun to search for things to do. In Skyrim, Fallout 4 & even in Fallout 76 you would passively come across interesting things that would lead into quests, you didn’t always have to scrounge and scrape to find them. In Starfield you have maybe 40-60 hrs of meaningful quests and the rest are either repetitive quests or neat geographical locations to look at for a few minutes before moving on to more emptiness.

Fishing in real life: Fun, engaging, exciting, and full of friendship, familial bonds, and beer. Fishing in videogames: Pretty gay. And yet no fishing game has ever said "Well fishing in real life is exciting, so that makes our game exciting."

Bethesda games being janky and restricted back in the 2010s were still covered up and the quests, interactions and mods held up the buggy games and made it enjoyable and repeatable but in this age such soulless, mediocre and buggy games is expected from indie devs not the so called AAA developers and given the track record of Bethesda, it is very unlikely Starfield will have massive overhauls like Cyberpunk or No Mans Sky.

In my country this game is $130 (like $15 more in US dollars) base game, $185 deluxe. Even going off US dollars for some reason this game is $10 more than the standard $60, that alone tells me every reason why I shouldn't get this game

***wrote a whole ah book*** One of the worst parts about Starfield for me (got me so annoyed I’m on here yapping about it) is that the factions were done awfully! My first play through I wanted to play as a space pirate so I could play as the bad guy and not worry about rep and so on, so I did the appropriate quests to join the crimson fleet only to find out that 80% of the planetary outposts and discoverable locations are occupied by them making it so they don’t attack you. It was really hard playing as the bad guy space pirate when most of the people and ships I came across were also fellow space pirates. Completely made me question why they’re even called pirates if they own half the fucking galaxy. Even on one of the final missions I was met with more friendly space pirates so what was supposed to be an intense gunfight (one of the very few in the game) was a complete walk in the park, literally. Even more so, there are already “spacers” which i don’t think you can join and that I saw maybe 2 times in my entire playthrough; why aren’t these guys the most common enemy if they’re not even a faction but a word for random space enemies. Building was a pain in the ass with MnK and I could write a second essay about all the other problems.

1:22 You just described my experience with Fallout 4. I reached a point while looking through cabinets for loot and, looking at my inventory, realized that none of my guns were interesting, none of what I was picking up mattered, and that I had little reason to explore at all. I closed the game, uninstalled it, and never touched it again.
@slicedtopieces Жыл бұрын
It seems like we all get to that point with Bethesda titles eventually. For you it was FO4, for me it was Skyrim. Some of the older guys felt that way about FO3 even. Now a fresh crop are feeling this way about Starfield. Maybe it's simply a result of getting older though I nonetheless still can't help but think that objectively Bethesda titles have gotten blander over time.
@n0denz Жыл бұрын
@@slicedtopieces It took me awhile to realize just how boring Skyrim actually was. It hit me when I'd finally finished downloading a slew of mods and realized that I had zero interest in playing the game after. Though when Skyrim was released, I thought it was superior to Oblivion in every way. It's only in the last few years that I've come to have a real appreciation for that game's writing.
@slicedtopieces Жыл бұрын
@@n0denz Yeah, I didn't play Skyrim when it first came out so I missed all the hype. When I did play it, like you, I modded it to heck but came to realise I was basically fighting the game constantly to make it more fun than it was actually designed to be. Maybe I'll take another look at Oblivion though.

The first mod I installed was the Skip dialogue mod, couldn't stand the brain dead dialogue nor the obnoxious shaming quips from the female npc's, the dev's in charge of the narration and dialogue have no idea what constitutes banter, NONE. Then there's the terrible copy paste of locations/buildings/outposts right down to the positioning and behavior of the NPC's in the buildings, its a disgrace how they've copy pasted everything.

The only Bethesda games I have ever played is DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal and that’s it. I’ve never been interested in Skyrim or any of the fallout games. I was hoping we could get Titanfall 3, fat chance of that happening. I haven’t bought Starfield and I will never play that pathetic excuse of a video game, SMH. FYI, there’s more exploring in Star Trek online than in Starfield and that game is “free to play”. It would be interesting to know if Bethesda is doing damage control because they want to have a good image so Microsoft won’t give them the ax.
