To me, the most beautiful thing in this song is about the name and the connection with the lyrics. Oceano means, quite obviously, ocean in Portuguese. But with the concept and the lyrics, without changing anything, he turns a noun (oceano) into a verb. He sings: "Você desagua em mim e eu oceano", which would roughly translate to "You flow into me and I ocean it". Implying a concept of you come with your baggage, your fears, your dream and hopes and I absorb it and turn it part of myself. That's why he continues with "E esqueço que amar é quase uma dor", again roughly translated to "and I forget that loving is almost a pain (or painful)", completed by "só sei viver se for por você", I can only live if it's for (or by, or through) you. Djavan really is one of the greatest in Brazil. A whole vibe musically and quite a lyricist!

Best musics to try: "Remonta", "Ralador de pia", "Flutua". I'd love to see your reaction to Liniker's song and voice ❤

Djavan made an English version of this song called Puzzle of Heart, which has the same harmony but the lyrics don't come close to the poetry of the Portuguese lyrics, it's worth taking the lyrics in Portuguese and formally translating them to understand how This poetry is beautiful. Djavan is the Brazilian equivalent of the American Steve Wonder just for comparison purposes. Steve Wonder has always been an admirer of Djavan's music, and on the 1982 album "Luz", Djavan wrote the song "Samurai" for Steve Wonder to play on the harmonica.

For those who are curious to know what he's saying in the song: As soon as the day broke Over there, at the open sea of passion One could see the time tumbling down Where are you? such a loneliness! Will you forget me? At last, of all there is on earth There is nothing, in any place Which will grow up, unless you come Away from you, everything stopped Nobody knows what I suffered Loving is a desert and its fears Life that goes in the saddle of these pains Don't know how to come back, give me your heat Come make me happy, because I love you You flow into me and I, the ocean And I forget that loving is almost a pain I only know how to live if it's for you At last, of all there is on earth There is nothing, in any place Which will grow up, unless you come Away from you, everything stopped Nobody knows what I suffered Loving is a desert and its fears Life rides on the saddle of these pains Don't know how to come back, give me your heat Come make me happy, because I love you You flow into me and I, the ocean And I forget that loving is almost a pain I only know how to live if it's for you

For me, music is completely related to emotions and feelings, just like the arts in general. In Brazil, especially for lovers of classic "Brazilian popular music", the emotion of the singer is more captivating than a perfect note (I think you've noticed this from the performances of the singers you've reacted to). For example, Chico Buarque, who is one of the greatest composers and singers in Brazil, but many people, including himself, have said that he doesn't sing very well, but his performance is incredible, and you can feel it in his voice since he doesn't express himself much physically.

Djavan is a jazz lover. He uses sentences that, even if they insinuate a story, their main function is as sounds. It's like a percussionist using words to create a song. There is a story! But it's unclear 😅 When I moved to Salvador (Bahia - Brazil) almost thirty years ago, I had the honor to see him on an Electric Trio (a truck where the artists sing during the carnival), he was just two meters high from me! My son laughed and said, "Oh mom, at least, close your mouth!" Because I was totally stunned with the vision. 😅 About flaws, yeah! They show us emotion, and that's why the audience screams when the artist's voice cracks for a millisecond 😊

Hey Beth, very good afternoon. This man has one of the most beautiful voices in Brazil and this song is beautiful. You won't regret reacting to it. Djavan - Oceano As soon... as the day dawned... There... in the high sea of passion,... It was possible to see... The time... ruining. Where are you? What loneliness! Forgot... about me? Anyway,... of everything that is on earth... There is nothing anywhere... That will grow without... You being here. Far from you,... everything stopped! No one knows what I suffered. (Chorus) Love is a desert... and its fears! It is life that goes in the saddle... of these pains! Do not know how to return? Give me your warmth! Come make me happy, because I love you! You dewater in me and... I ocean! And I forget that love... Is almost a pain! I... only... know... to... live... If... it is... for... you. Anyway,... of everything that is on earth... There is nothing anywhere... That will grow without... You being here. Far from you,... everything stopped! No one knows what I suffered. (Chorus) Love is a desert... and its fears! It is life that goes in the saddle... of these pains! Do not know how to return? Give me your warmth! Come make me happy,... because I love you! You dewater in me and... I ocean! And I forget that love... Is almost a pain! I... only... know... to... live... If... it is... for... you!

I always loved the creativity of "You dewater in me and I... ocean". Ocean is the noun, same thing as "sea" BUT... Djavan made it as a verb. And as ocean is the biggest body of water, it means "You complete me and therefore I grow/ get bigger"
