You need to react to “I Still Love You” from the acoustic MTV Unplugged back in 1996. You really get to hear Paul Stanley’s true vocals when he was in his prime!

Back in 1977/78 as a 9/10 year old kid, a classmate brought KISS Alive II to class for end of year party...that was my first true exposure to ROCK and fell in love with the music and had to have my mom take me to the store and get that album. Been a ROCK and METAL fanatic ever since. Thanks for the rawr-action. Rock and Roll All Nite Beth.

One of the most played live songs of all time if not the most. KISS was a rare combination of 4 singers, 4 musicians, 4 characters and a group spectacle. They created an army and a marketing brand. Just awesome Love Beth worrying about the instruments at the end 😂

I consider Paul Stanley, of KISS, one of the great Rock vocalists. "I Still Love You," is one of his many examplars. And, I came appreciate KISS extremely late, like in the past few years. Link to an 'unplugged' live version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2qXgp6Ih7Z-fZY

The energy at a KISS concert is amazing. I have seen them in concert 3 times. The last time was Psycho Circus where I took my 14 year old daughter to her first real rock concert. She was actually more interested in the platform boots but she was hoarse from screaming at the end of the night, and Paul spit a pick right at her feet. Needless to say she is a fan for life lol.

Kiss was never about the vocals, lyrics, or the greatest musicians in the world. What drove the entire show was just the whole spectacle of the thing. Back in the 70’s this was so radical and unheard of that you just couldn’t help but love them. 😊
According to them, it was about giving everyone a great night. While this concert was after ~20 years of vocal and body abuse, they still put it out there. Detroit rock city, i was made for lovin you are also designed to get you out of your set.
@mrtveye6682 Жыл бұрын
Right. "Musical excellence" from a technical point of view was never their priority it was always about the show, about entertainment and having a good time. But besides that, they are not even bad singers. Not great singers, but this live recording is really not doing them justice. They are pretty on point in the studio, and there are live recordings where they are doing a lot better.

Kiss is so much fun. I attended a concert in the mid 70's during the same tour they recorded Kiss Alive!. For me, their studio albums are almost an after thought (after Destroyer, Rock and Roll Over, and Love Gun) but live there is nobody more fun. I've seen them every time I could over the years. Rock and roll fun personified.

Depending on the song, Kiss has different singers. In this case, that's Gene (less caring with technics). If you wanna check the best vocal quality you gotta choose a song in which Paul Stanley is the singer. Songs like "Love Gun", "Forever" and "Heaven's on fire" (check the performances in Kiss "Alive III" and "Alive IV"). Regards from Brazil

Gene’s “Kiss voice” is different from his regular singing voice. He adds the growl intentionally. Some of his solo material, plus many of the background vocals in Kiss are his regular voice. All four original members, and several of the later members, sing live. Peter Criss (the drummer here) has an incredible “screamy” voice, and Ace’s is very unique and laid-back. To hear all of them sing lead listen to Black Diamond (Peter), Shock Me (Ace), and Strutter (Paul).

I always love watching Beth be her vocal coach self when breaking down videos, but it was kinda nice to watch her just enjoy herself while extolling the virtues of grungy vocals and not having to be a great singer to be a great performer.

There's also a sort of 'It' Factor with all 4 of the original members' voices together. It's not as apparent here on this live recording, but it's one of those 'intangibles' that I feel elevates the vocals - the sum is more than the parts.
