They had three leads at the time. There's always a blessing and a curse to having so much talent in one group. The blessing is the diversity in songs and artistic expression, not to mention the ladies who choose their favorites. Friendly Competition is good, but competitive resentment, and jealousy can ruin a group because no one wants to be The public announcement for R.Kelly. The good thing is they grew up together and are like family, unlike let's say An Envogue who couldn't get past their differences.

Outperforming Kool and the Gang, Force M.D's, and Cherelle with Alexander O'Neal. Yeah, that was on the same show and they were all over the stage. Bobby Brown was acting out, jumping on top of the loudspeakers on the side of the stage. It was a show for real. In Chicago, at the U.I.C. Pavillion, it was a train ride for 20 minutes and memories that I fondly keep til this day. Just didn't know that when I rode the train back home to the westside of Chicago that my home was more peaceful than the projects that the group returned to. They were horribly taken advantage of.

I can definitely tell that Ralph is still upset until this day about his solo career. He was poorly marketed and mismanaged. Bobby left at a good time to hone in on his skills and to mature into an adult solo act. His bad boy image helped usher him into superstardom, but also led to his downfall. Plus Bobby got on the New Jack Swing wave early with Teddy Riley so his Don’t Be Cruel album sounded more fresh and groundbreaking. Not only that but he probably didn’t expect BBD to happen let alone have the crazy success that it did. Ralph still had a respectable solo career but often times it’s like he got outshined by all the other members in the group solo wise.
@FlyiDCG3 жыл бұрын
Ralph always seemed to play it safe, but everyone's destiny was influenced by MCA & Jump & Shoot. Jump & Shoot set a dynamic putting Ralph in the front, holding Bobby to the back having BBD just enjoy the ride. Bobby gets kicked out for rebelling and rumors of Ralph leaving causes fear and distrust to have BBD bring Johnny in the group. They should have just let everyone have more parts as intended. Once the Heartbreak tour was complete Ralph should have got busy, but BBD & Johnny dropped first and Ralph came with Heartbreak Part 2 (his first solo). That album went platinum but I dont think it was the best timing. New Edition as a crew had a good 4 year run from 88-92 which I think was their peek. After the Bobby album fans shifted to Jodeci, Boys II Men & R.Kelly.
@musiclover_kb49132 жыл бұрын
No, Bobby didn't just leave, he was kicked out. What was everyone expecting him to do? Honestly, Ralph's solo career not taking off the way he wanted it to had nothing to do with Bobby. By that I mean Bobby did not directly prevent or sabotage that
@michaelyoungboy57922 жыл бұрын
IMO Ralph shoulda came with a better or more creative album, each the of New Edition branch came with something new but musically Ralph played it too safe and as a result, didn’t have a distinct sound.

Because of how humble he is or was. He gave everyone a chance. That's what you call a true friend. What he say? (I don't know where you come but where I come from we don't get down like that bro).... Now let the music began Maurice....
@JackiePlayzzz2 жыл бұрын
I think the issue is Ralph played it way too safe which resulted in his solo career not going where he wanted, maybe if he started a little earlier that would’ve given him a major jumpstart but he started getting serious right after Johnny came to the group and BBD was getting popular, not to mention Bobby was already making new music and don’t be cruel was coming out so that just made it worse. Obviously everyone in NE didn’t do anything to sabotage Ralph’s career but they all did what they had to do and sadly Ralph did what he had to do a little too late.
