I guess what I really mean is that it's a game that is both legacy, and still actually playable after the legacy series is over. Just an individualized version of the base game.

Not only that, but I remember reading somewhere that there are haunts that are ONLY available after you've completed the main campaign.

Nerd Adjacent Productions i would say early teens but every child is different. Also it’s all text based so there is no gory imagery or anything to be on the lookout for.

Is this as punishing as the regular version? Can you get trapped in a room on turn 4 and die after a few more turns? (real-world example, that happened to me)

It’s less likely due to some new board features but It can still be very swinging, like base Betrayal.

If i want to play it multiple times but with all different people, is that possible, or will it suck (i know some of the features wont be as good) but I guess, does it standup as just a betryal game without needing to own the normal version also

My twin brother and I had this issue with Betrayal on the Hill and we both ended up playing as 2 characters and once the haunt triggered one person would control 3 characters and the traitor would be alone.

Question if you buy a new copy of the game does it come with the possibility of different tiles and things? Or else i don't understand why you need to buy a new copy?

With legacy games like this you literally rip up cards, write on cards and put stickers on things as you play so you can never go back to a pristine copy again.

@@phildureau1279 couldn't you just put anything that gets "Destroyed" into a bag labeled that? dont stick the stickers on hold them there with paper clips? write with pencil not pen scan and print out copies of the books maybe ?

@@tylerlamb4108 Absolutely you could do most of those things although the stickers could be problematic as they might be on cards that get shuffled or in the middle of a game board. For some games I think you can now get removable stickers. In my Gloomhaven game I just move the cards I'm supposed to rip up to another spot in the box; I can't bring myself to destroy them.

@@phildureau1279 got a follow up question for you (mainly cause you replyed so fast and youve played the game as i havnet yet) my twin brother and I when playing betrayal on the hill we add an additional rule to the haunt that it cant be triggered until at least 25 rooms are in play, this makes it so the haunt cant be trigger way early on a tiny board. do you think that rule would still work in the legacy version if the game?(ive never played a legacy game) :D

@@tylerlamb4108 From what I've seen some of the haunts in Betrayal Legacy are triggered by very specific things happening, not by omen rolls. So in those particular chapters you'd probably want to follow the rules given for that chapter.

Do you think you can tweak it to make it 2p compatible? I'm guessing multiple characters per person works, but not sure if some haunts would make it weird...

Gutock I don’t think it would be possible unfortunately. These haunts wouldn’t really be balanced for one on one as the traitor usually has a big advantage. You could have one funny character that both players control until the haunt starts, in which the non-trailer controls the dummy but even this won’t work for every haunt.

I have to say this but Kira you spoiled something major for me. It was not even necessary for the review. I really have to point it out. Can i restart the betrayal campaign? It sounds like stickers are being attached to cards, written on cards, RIPPING up cards. This seems super counter productive of a board game.

Betrayal of the house is a game with a random traitor mechanic. The worst part of that is that the game sometimes give very unbalanced haunts (they mention this as an issue for the legacy version). The Legacy version is not a game in the same sense. There is no coop victory or loss as in Epidemic. This is a story machine with no winner or loser. You could say that the individual haunt have winners or losers, but as they say in the later part of the review: They story goes on, and whatever happens everyone is back on the same footing later. Is there an end to this game? Will there be a scoring based on, say, the number of heirlooms that survived? There could have been, and it would have changed this from a story engine to a game, but it might not have been a better experience for it.

No. You really don't get a decent look at what the game looks like while set up, and almost everything they say assumes experience with another game.

Showing the board setup would include spoilers since they have played through the game already. And yes, as with most Legacy games, experience with the normal version is presumed. If you want more information about Betrayal at House on the Hill, find a review for that. This review did an excellent job of explaining the difference between the normal and Legacy versions, which is what most people really need to know.

It’s very common for all reviews of legacy games. Reviews are kept vague to be kept spoiler-free. Also for legacy games based on other games that have been reviewed in the past. Maybe find a review of betrayal at the house of the hill for base mechanics.
