This comes a bit late but - Yes you can! 2 thoughts on it: 1. Make sure to soak it a while first - for a layer of bacteria to form above it & also for bacteria to settle down (the initial phase = all oxygen used up by bacteria) 2. Best to separate it with a layer of gravel Hmm, never try before sterilizing soil with oven. Logically, you can put to oven to sterilize all bacteria - it would work to minimize harmful bacteria etc, but I'd think you'll still need to leave it for a while for the bacteria to establish itself. Personally we prefer to just leave it for 2 weeks for bacteria colony to settle down, and let plant do the job of filtering the soil etc first. Let us know if you discover anything though! @@staystrongpeople4942 oh nono, 6 pellets is twice the amount of the normal betta diet. Normal portion is 2-3 pellets. So, it may be constipation. You can try epsom salt bath or feeding pee to help with the constipation. Also, keep checking on its poop, white poop isn't a good sign.

I've got a betta that eats everything I put in his tank, and another one that is shockingly picky. Hi! Ive gotten a male halfmoon betta fish 5 days ago or so, it hasnt eaten since. Its nibbled on food twice but that was only for a tiny bit, ive gone back to the store to ask ehats wrong and what they feed, they feed twice a day, morning frozen blood worms then in the afternoon flakes, i make sure to crush the flakes and today ive troed the blood worms but nothing is working, the filter is running ok, ive got 6 tetra aswell [17L tank] and the tetra are eating just fine, ive made sure to add the tetras first before adding the betta to avoid it thinking the tetras are invading its territory and the tetras are eating fine, the fish doesnt look bloted and i dont know what to do. Just feed normal portion about 2-3 pellets, will be good if you give a variety of foods like brine shrimp or bloodworm. If your betta is too old to get to the surface, you just have to soak the pellet so that it sinks or hold the pellet for it to eat.

Nitrate is a bit high which is harmful to betta also. How long has he been not eating? Try to do 70% water change until it reaches 0ppm. Also, avoid overfeeding and add more plants can helps to reduce the nitrate.

@@vaikalyatupkari6009 3 days don't provide enough time for beneficial bacteria to grow though, usually its 1 month cycle at least, so maybe you need to add nitrobacter. It's common for betta to eat and spit out food at first as it's a process of chunking down the pellet to smaller bites. You can try crushing the pellet to a smaller size to see if it eats without spitting out. You don't have to turn the filter off when feeding, but it doesn't harm to turn it off for a while.

My betta fish is a picky eater

I have a five gallon tank for my betta, I got him yesterday. I tried using flakes but he just sits under a plant on the bottom.

Did you check whether the water parameter is right?

@@EverydayAquatics Yes! I checked the water. The water is 80° Fahrenheit. I got the water tested at petco. Everything was good! Should I try feeding him at 4 pm? That’s the time they normally feed him

My betta is simply lying on the ground breathing with rotten fins and eating nothing...what should I do now? I even poured 10 drops of methylene blue and fungal infection reducer

Please follow the instruction on using the medicine, overdosing it will only cause more damage to the fish. Have you moved it to a quarantine tank to do the treatment? And how long since you started treatment?

I have bought a new betta he/she go in bottom of the water and not eating food and he/she creat a bubble nest Plz reply sir.

Give the new betta some time to adapt to new environment. Also, you can ask what the seller feed usually, so you can feed the betta some familiar food first
