Male guppy tank aggression: Strong agree. I found when I had lots, they'd tail fan and stuff occasionally but there were too many guppies for any one to be singled out. However, once you've got fewer than about 6 I find they tend to gang up and drive out one guppy at a time, which eventually dies. Then you've got fewer, and they fight more, and more. My last few guppies instead between tanks as a result. Personally, I'd strongly recommend at LEAST 8. My 6 where ok. Right until one got a bit weak - it was the least healthy looking of the lot from day 1. But that show of weakness started the spiral very rapidly and I went from 6 to now just two in the span of a couple weeks, without any sign of illness whatsoever. Just the guppies killing one at a time. It's frustrating because a big school of males is visually awesome, and having mixed groups is a recipe for trouble through population explosion because nobody wants your thousands of baby guppies... And you can't have even just one female, as they can store reproductive material for MONTHS. They're essentially always pregnant. Despite what people say, though? My individual males are doing REALLY well now. Visibly healthier and less stressed than they where in the fraternity. So... I dunno. I don't think there's a good solution. Maybe just have mixed groups in a tank with other fish that will eat the majority of fry I guess? Edit to add: my guppies where originally in a 10g. Moved to 40g when they where 5, and to individual tanks when there where 3. So I doubt it's a tank size problem.

Great points as always mate, I think a minimum if 8 males is probably the magic number too, the more I watch mine the more I want to get a larger guppy tank again.

@@GlassBoxDiaries I've heard having a variety of colours helps - mine where all the same, and I've heard they tend to be more aggressive to ones that look like themselves. Dunno if there's truth to that, but multicolored schools look better anyways.

Woah! They way you explained was just awesome. I have had both guppies and bettas . Both are awesome fish. But in my new 20 gallon , i dont know what to decide on. Then with your outstanding video, i chose on guppy. So i could even later move on to a pond serup of 1200 gallons. Thanks so much man!Cheers!❤😊

As someone still new to the hobby i have started with the betta, but do want some guppies soon.

Personally, I like Bettas the most, but i havent kept one for decades. Id love one now, but injust dont have the space - already have 6 current tanks, in a very small house :)

Space is my main limitation right now too, thinking of selling my paddleboards to free up room and then use that cash for more tanks.
