I've had two male Bettas I tried to introduce in a community tank. The first one became a territorial, ever flaring jerk when I moved him to a 55 gallon. I got him an 8 gallon and just a few guppy friends and he lived out a happy life. I just got a new Betta and he appears to be doing just fine in a large tank. I love Bettas and it's worth the risk to include them in a community tank as long as you have a plan B

@@AquariumStoreDepot I've had three Bettas and each one was completely different, completely stunning and as close to a "water puppy" as I'll ever get. They all learned to swim to the top of the tank and blow bubbles every time I say hello, whether there is food or not. Such amazing animals!

Tiger barbs really are deceiving! Those beautiful orange stripes make them look perfect for any tank, but their fin-nipping habit can cause quite a bit of chaos. Thanks for the detailed breakdown on managing their aggression-keeping them in larger schools sounds like a great tip!

Those beautiful colors and patterns are aposematic. Konrad Lorenz wrote during the earlier part of the last century that he purchased a group of Tiger Barbs because he wondered why they "looked so poisonous"; in his care, they mobbed larger cichlid fishes so persistently that he was forced to separate them. Unfortunately, most people react to animals on an almost entirely emotional level; "fish so pretty, me buy pretty fish".

I made the disastrously wrongful decision to buy 4 algae eaters and 2 plecos when my tank got dyed green with algae. Initially they kinda did their job, but then they start to destroy my plants as well. The fragile cabomba was torn to shred, some smaller plants got their leaves nibbed here and there, and the worst is the uprooting. I had to walk by my tank, found some uprooted plants floating on top, and had to really reach down to my almost 1 meter deep tank to replant them, three times *everyday*. Removing the algae eaters was also a nightmare. They are almost impossible to catch with a nest, and my tank is somewhat heavily planted too. In the end I had to buy a mini eel trap to get them.

@@AquariumStoreDepot I housed (90 gallon tank) 2 Angelfish, Cory Catfish, and Bluespotted Sunfish (North American Native) together. I set up the topography of the tank with a rock wall running back to front in the center, with two bubbler walls in front of the wall to basically split the tank in half. This really helped in keeping the Angelfish on one half, and the sunfish on the other. In addition I put a lot of vertically oriented terrain (tall plants) on the Angelfish side, and more horizontal stuff (log-like stuff) on the sunfish side. Occasionally someone would cross the boundary, but it was short lived and minimal aggression.

These fishes always stay at the bottom of the tank , moving constantly in high speed. I've 6 boesemani rainbow fishes , 8 angels and 4 severums, 6 electric blue acara in the same tank along with the Bengal danios . I've no problem at all with agression. Only problem is acaras get to eat less as they are shy and slow . Rainbow fishes and danios move around as a shoal . I recommend others personally to have some Bengal danios with Angels or Severums . I agree with just about all of these. I would add any danios to that list, they all seem to be way hyperactive and always caused problems in my tanks. Never had nippy serpae tetras, they haven't presented any problems, they spar a lot but never nipped even my angelfish. Buenos Aires tetras were very nippy in my tanks and nibbled plants, they are almost like smaller versions of silver dollars and also super active and disruptive if you like a quiet tank. Gouramis, rainbow sharks, redtailed sharks are all a crap shoot, I've kept gold gouramis, rainbow and redtails that were big babies but others were ferocious. Pearl Gouramis, Honey Gouramis and Thick Lipped Gouramis are a good choice. Just about all barbs will nip, Cherry, Black Ruby and Gold barbs are least likely but still caught them nipping. I never had chinese algae eaters, but I tried flying foxes with disappointing results. I've had Two male Bettas. The first, a blue veiltail was a gentleman who was chill with his tank mates...the red veiltail after the blue died was a different story. I used to have a guppy tank, before I moved, and it didn't take long for 6 fish (2 males, 4 females), to become around 50 or so in a 10 gallon tank. 🤣 That said, I switched over from silk to live plants and everyone did fine. I even had a pair of cories in there too. Despite the antics of my very frisky males 😉 aside from the initial flood of 30-ish babies, their population was pretty stable. Every so often I would find a single fry or two. The live plants also cured my algae issues. I rarely did water changes too. Hitchhiking snails and my cories kept things clean. If you had males only, you could keep them with a similar temperament community fish, but I think you're better off keeping guppies by themselves. I'm new to your channel, but maybe a video on single species tanks would be helpful to new fish keepers. I made the mistake of putting up those fireplace like still shot tank videos to try to curb my desire to get back into fish keeping, but now I want it more. Venting doesn't work, folks. It just makes it worse. I want a tank so bad. Thanks to Joebama, I can't afford it. Thank God, change is coming.

I dont understand why so many people go for unnatural long finned freaks instead of wild type natural variants.

If there was such an irradiation catfish and irradiated flys would a catfish eat a fly or rotting fly carcass? They are opportunists right?
